— Gabriel Malor Well, isn't that just precious.
"Syria congratulates the Iranian brotherly people and their wise leadership on this historic achievement which reiterates Iran's role in the stability and security of the region," the source concluded.
In favor of this deal: Obama, Syria, Iran, Russia, China, the EU.
Opposed: Israel.
The details are terrifying. Iran gets to continue its activities at Arak, Fordow and Natanz facilities, and gets a reprieve from sanctions in exchange for promising not to continue its nuclear weapons program.
Oh, and we're making concessions of international law, as well:
Zarif said that the agreement “covers several important domains, the most important of which is the recognition of the right to enrichment.”
The U.S. and other major powers have never conceded an international norm of enrichment. Obama's just giving this stuff away.

At least, I hoping that cynical and shortsighted political gamesmanship was behind this. Because if it isn't, it's either:
A: Obama's bunch is so abysmally dumb they believe this guff they're dishing out about Iran's peaceful intentions, or
B: Valerie Jarret really is an Iranian agent of influence, same same Harry Hopkins, FDR, and Stalin.
Either way, that's much worse than cynical politics.

But John Kerry specifically said this deal does NOT include a right to enrichment. And repeated that lie multiple time to drive the point home and oddly focusing on the word"Right". I'm guessing the what is is lawyers said this was an out.

Exactly. It doesn't change the dynamic in the ME one bit. Iran is still going to do what they were going to do, and Israel and Saudi are still going to distrust Barky.
My prediction: Iran builds a nuclear bomb, and a "tragic accident" ensues when they undertake to set one off in the desert to demonstrate their capability.

>>It would end up, right now, with Isreal's complete isolation in the global community and probably start the slow process of its death.
No matter how it would start, Isreal would be blamed as the aggressor by 85% of the world. The Obama adminstration would probably issue some luke warm statement of support that would really mean no support. Sanctions would ultimately be imposed on Isreal that the US would go along with. The Russians would back the Iranians and, well, Obama v. Putin worked so well for us round 1 that round 2 would be a mere formality.
.
.
.I disagree. This is starting to look like a repeat of the 1967 war with Israel surrounded by hostile enemies who outnumbered them about 20-1. Israel struck first at the UAR and then went on to win big time. The international community was pretty hard on Israel for quite some time and they had to give up almost all of the ground they gained, but they shut down any serious Arab attempts to destroy the country for quite some time.
I doubt that Israel will go quietly into the night, they haven't the last dozen times.

It's not so much the Great Depression as much as the FDR administration when Democrat graduates of Ivy League schools had unfettered control of all of the federal government. They got to make all the decisions and ordinary people had to live with the consequences. The ruling class view this as the natural order of things.
During FDR's administration, they gave us the Great Depression followed by nuclear war.

The initiation this week of the nuclear option to ram legislation thru the Senate is completely coincidental. Totes.
This doesn't look to be a treaty that requires Senate approval, but I believe there's underlying Iran sanction legislation that Obama is going to have to overturn by Presidential fiat.

If there ever was an event that should convert a large percentage of American Jewry from liberal/socialist to conservative, this Iranian debacle should be that turning point. Or not?
Not. They would elect him again even if Israel is destroyed, sorry. I have heard too many jews deny the "dual loyalties" and state that they will favor what benefits America (read, Obama and Dems).

Too many will even get on the train, because there is no way that their fellow democrats would do "that" to them. After all, They have been loyal to the same ideals all these years.

The problem is that they won't assume we have their backs when they need resupply, as we did in '73. That means the only option they have is nuclear.

My grandfather relayed his having heard entirely similar conversations about Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan all through the 1930s.
It's on the other side of the world! Nothing to worry about. None of our beeswax.
I myself kinda figure that a country where they have regular "Death To America" two-minutes-hate events, a country that at one point sacked and looted our embassy (sovereign soil of the USA by international understanding) and turned our diplomats into hostages, a country that has repeatedly lethally attacked us via proxies (Beirut barracks bombing), a country that has sworn to destroy our only close ally in that part of the world, then maybe, just maybe, letting a country like that get nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles is a SERIOUSLY BAD IDEA.

I am also recalling a lot of White House/Executive bloviating about the "full faith and credit" of the US recently.
These buyoffs of enemies are really expensive -- wonder when House of Reps will pull back some appropriations rather than paying endlessly for more failed Executive nonsense with blank checks.

Nuclear fallout does not recognize national boundaries.
Religious fanatics do not recognize civilized norms.
Wars tend to expand to "neutral countries" and kill more of the innocents than the armed belligerents.

That is not entirely true. A nuclear weapon is a relatively complex piece of equipment. If you explode a conventional warhead near it or shoot it full of metal fragments there is a good chance that it will not function as designed. You might get a low order nuclear explosion or it might just crash into the ground and scatter radioactive components around the crash site. Neither of those is desirable but both are a lot better than a nuclear warhead functioning as designed where it will do the most damage. There is also the possibility that the nuclear weapon is salvage fuzed so that it will go off before the warhead is damaged. You still get a nuclear explosion in that case but it happens a bit farther out than the people shooting it at you had intended. Since there are a lot of inverse square law things going on, even that is a better result than not doing anything.

My husband has never had plastic surgery or used Botox. John is committed to a healthy lifestyle absent medications, alcohol, or external stimuli detrimental to his health.
John is the healthiest Secretary of State every selected for the position, and will go down in history as the most effective.
He was a hero in Vietnam with his documented combat abilities, and this agreement proves his prowess in the field of negotiation.
John Kerry is a hero negotiator and is deserving of public accolades, and as a minimum the Presidential Medal of Freedom with "V" devise, and of course the Nobel Peace Prize.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu slammed the interim nuclear deal signed in Geneva early Sunday as “a historic mistake that makes the world a more dangerous place.” Israel is not obligated by this agreement,” he told the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem. Iran is committed to Israel’s destruction, he said and "I want to make clear as the prime minister of Israel, Israel will not allow Iran to develop a military nuclear capability."

Well, since the i.r.s. can discriminate against zero's "enemies" regarding tax-exempt status--how should we expect that to work out regarding health-scare?
Something tells me certain people might be stripped of their assets, declared mentally ill, disarmed, denied care......
(Of course the disarming will be easier now that the senate may decide to ratify the unatt with 51.)
