Black Chicago Voters Rail Against Machine Politics At Town Hall Forum

I'm not sure what they'd consider to be alternatives to the typical Democrat Machine Politician (full socialist? Republican?), but they are admirably pissed off at their government.

Â“The manner in which we have been voting needs to change,Â” Wendy Pearson, an activist against Chicago school closings, told the room. Â“IÂ’m here to say to you that we have been trained to vote in a specific mannerÂ… we need to start looking at the manner in which our elected officials have been votingÂ… if they have not voted in a manner that is beneficial to you, yours, and your community, then you need to start voting them out.Â”
McKinley told the room, Â“Stop blaming just anybody for the violence in the city of Chicago. Blame the right people, not just white people, but the right people. Because itÂ’s not just white folks a part of this, but it is on the fifth floor. The fifth floor took your schools, the fifth floor just took your jobs that he said that he gave to the ex-offenderÂ… and every single alderman was a part of this criminal process.Â”

McKinley's a Republican candidate. He called for an end of government aid to "brand-name blue-ribbon negro organizations," by which he meant the NAACP and Urban League. He actually got a lot of applause.

An older fellow calls for a Tea Party style uprising, but I think he's only talking about the procedural aspects of the Tea Party (that is, a revolt against the political class, not necessarily embracing rightist ideology).

7 Not to be the contrarian in the mix, here, but my impression is that their idea of voting for "better candidates" means voting for candidates who promise even bigger government, even more nanny-stating and way, way, way more free shit. They're not revolting because what they vote for is going too far. They're revolting because it isn't, in their opinion, going far enough. You're not seeing 1770's Boston here. What you're seeing is 1917 Moscow.

Undoubtedly, but a large part of Tea Party ideology is for the government to be held accountable. The Dem base has long absolved their reps from accountability, as long as they have conformity. Results haven't mattered, and Ds have been assured of being returned to office again and again as long as they tow the party line.

It's not just welfare that has ruined the work ethic of this country.

It's the systematic over regulation of business and industry.

It's over unionization which caused many larger industries to close or shrink in the face of overseas competition.

It's the free trade (and the lack of enforcement from our side) agreements that made it easier and less costly to move overseas and then import goods. (Most done by GOP Reps/Sens and Pres) Billed as Increasing jobs, they actually decreased the jobs because other bills allowed tax incentives for businesses to move or to keep their profits overseas.

All the while making laws that stifle or destroy the small businesses in this country.

Tax laws, reporting requirements, epa rules, zoning rules, employee rules, stacks of forms to be filled out quarterly and the threat of fines and imprisonment if filled out incorrectly.

The job base has shrunk and there is no return until gov't gets off our back.

My daughter is in grad school in StL, so my Dad, who spent part of his youth there, asked me to look in his old neighborhood to see how things were. It wasn't an expensive neighborhood, but solidly middle class. Needless to say, his old house is now boarded up, and I didn't feel safe even slowing down to look at the place. The hostility was palpable. I was probably the only white person around for several square miles.

Now tell me again how it's all my fault.

It's the Democrat coalition fracturing and this is how it happens. Honestly, I figured it would happen when the Federal debt and interest rates got so high that we are literally doing nothing more than paying off the interest. There's also a lot of frustration about Obama. Even though McKinley "called on Obama" to do something, it does nothing more than emphasize how impotent and irrelevant Obama is. This whole incident indicates one thing to me: low voter turnout. Whether this disillusion with government will break the Democrat stranglehold on the black vote in terms of percentage, the post-Obama years will see a market decline in black voting. It's worth noting that Rahm's most recent political foray has been to show support for illegals. Two reasons this was not a good idea for him: (1) Blacks are disproportionately hurt by illegals, economically. (2) Blacks in the FSA don't want to hear that there's another constituency competing for benefits.

Most of the violence in Chicago is black on black. If anyone tried to stop the violence, the NAACP would riot and bring law suits down on the police department. The criminal element in Chicago is the NAACP. Let a black leader speak out against violence and he finds himself attacked as an Uncle Tom. Many nationalities band together to help each other. The blacks fight each other.
