Blue Jacket Guy: I'm Not the Boston Bomber
— Ace

I never really suspected this guy. He looked like a runner. The right shape, the right clothes.

Turns out, he is a runner:

I noticed that Newsweek editor Michael Moynihan was also tweeting skeptically about the two guys in the photo this morning and e-mailed him to ask why he thinks theyÂ’re innocent. Answer: He found their Facebook pages last night and says it seemed pretty clear from the volume of material about track and field, along with lots of other innocuous crap, that theyÂ’re unlikely to be the culprits.

And in fact both men-- black backpack and blue jacket -- have been cleared. (I was pretty suspicious of Black Backback, I admit.)

By the way, this is why I think Ricin Elvis might not be the terrorist the authorities say he is. Liberty Lady found all his social media appearances before his name was officially announced (she figured it out by the initials "KC" and his frequent mentions of key quotes, like "I'm KC and I approved this message).

Here's "KC" reacting to the Boston Massacre:

we the people are just not safe anymore! I mean bombs where folks are “racing”??? Elephants in Tupelo Circus getting SHOT??? What next! I guess there will come a time when Elvis fans can’t even go out to watch a bunch of Elvis Impersonators pay tribute to a man who gave his life for we the people! Geesh! It’s a sad sad world!

That doesn't seem to fit the psychology of a poison-pen-letter killer. While one could say "Oh, he's putting on appearances, maintaining a simulacrum of normal behavior," I've gotta say I don't buy that. People who do this sort of thing -- killers, psychopaths, maniacs, violent extremists, terrorists -- are so driven by their weird demons that they are pretty proud to announce them publicly.

If you think about escalation, it starts with angry denunciations, then goes to threats, then goes to stalker-type behavior, and then proceeds to actual violence. I'm not sure that a guy so crazy he sends ricin to the president is in control of his shit enough to maintain appearances on his Facebook posts.

And I'm not sure the truly crazy know what sane looks like enough to fake it when required. Jared Loughner and James Holmes, for example, were plainly insane in their social media postings. It might have provided them some help at trial to pretend to be sane, but they didn't bother, or they didn't know what a sane person might sound like.

Anyway... I still sort of think we're going to find out this guy has some castor bean plants growing by his house and the "ricin" detected was castor pollen or something.

The other day on Breibart I noted that I gave the media a pass for all its erroneous reporting on these matters, because, honestly, I'd rather have the unvetted rumor now than the nailed-down story later.

Andrew McCarthy, however, points out that a wash of erroneous information is detrimental to investigations-- and helpful to terrorists.

[M]ost journalists and many agents are not well-versed in the esoterica of the justice system — in which, for example, “arrest” is different from “custody”; a “suspect” is different from a “person of interest”; and “detention” is different from “apprehension” —

I keep pointing this out. The media is as ignorant about these distinctions as it is about the difference between a semi-automatic and automatic weapon.

-- and you have the roadmap to error-ridden reporting. The problem is not that reporters and sources are intentionally misleading the public. It is that their information is both less reliable than they think it is and easily given to miscommunication. A potential witnessÂ’s voluntary submission to a law-enforcement interview could be mistaken for a suspectÂ’s surrender to police custody. Solid leads on a potential bomber based on video and forensic evidence could be miscommunicated as a solid identification of a suspect. The issuance of an arrest warrant for a person not in custody could be miscommunicated as an actual arrest.

...

And even worse than its effect of confusing and angering the public is the help it gives the terrorists. The leak-generated misinformation puts pressure on investigative agencies to correct the record; these public corrections give the terrorists insights into the state of the investigation that they would not otherwise have. It makes them harder to catch.

Well, now that you put it like that.

By the Way: There's a puppet show in France, like Britain's Spitting Image, called Les Guignols d'Info. A day after the Boston attack, they announced the winners of the Marathon -- a severed leg, a severed arm, and a limbless torso. It's at 1:46 to 1:50 or so, here. It's in French but the "joke" (I use the term advisedly) is visual and obvious enough.

I don't know if it's really worth noting that there is a lot of bad taste in the world. Also, of course, a lot of bad comedy; this is the sort of joke an amateur seventh-grader thinks up. It's usually not thought of as being professional level work.

If you want revenge, you already have it: These assholes are puppeteers.

(If you want a brief translation of how Le Figaro introduced that clip: With the question, basically, "Did the Guignols go too far?" Wikipedia tells me the show is "leftist and populist" and often accused of presenting a dumbed-down version of the news to dumbed-down people. And it's accused of being anti-American as well. I think we can safely move that out of the "accused" category to "declared.")

Dang it my brain is still trying to come up with the plural of asshole.

That was my issue yesterday, too. I guess he could have had it on the ground by his feet but it certainly wasn't clear that the backpack was by his feet. Plus, the one picture I saw of his backpack from behind showed a bulge in the backpack that looked an awful lot like the top of a pressure cooker.

33 Eh, from what I saw everyone had a hat and a backpack. That's pretty common at a marathon. Also Boston is full of college students who have backpacks, and the public transportation was full of them. A range from socially awkward M.I.T. kids to stuck up Harvard snobs to partying hard BC frat boys. It also wouldn't be hard for someone to buy marathon/running gear, the guy could have easily walked into the expo and purchased a bunch of over priced running clothes to try and blend in with the crowd

Getting into such specifics would just tip off the bad guys.   "It was a black nylon Champion duffel bag" doesn't do much for the public, but it tells the bad guys, " Shit, they know it was a Champion bag."   Just "a black bag of some sort, possibly a backpack or duffel" is enough without being too specific.

The rape stories both came from Le Figaro. The margaret thatcher stuff too, and a couple of other stories. Eh, it's kind of working while also doing this self-imposed project of learning another language.

134 I think it's a shame we don't have foreign language classes in our lower schools.

Living in Germany for three years when my dad was in the AF, it was required to study the language.  I was young and soaked it up like a sponge and spoke it fluently.

Our son was taking Spanish in pre-school and learning it quickly, and we moved to Chicagoland where no foreign language was offered in elementary school.

I studied French in high school for three years (including advanced my senior year) and can barely speak a word of it now.  Same with German.

You really have to immerse yourself in a country to learn the language, I believe.

172 ICE Official Responds to Blaze Report: ‘Categorically False’

A senior law enforcement official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told TheBlaze Thursday that reports claiming the department was deporting Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi under section 212 3B (“security and related grounds”) and had opened an “event” (or file) on the Saudi Arabian national following the Boston attacks is “categorically false.”

The official also told TheBlaze that Alharbi was never in custody nor ever considered for deportation by ICE, but that the department does have a different Saudi national in custody being held on grounds unrelated to the Boston bombings.

yes, they surely have tens of thousands of pictures that they have to sort by time, location, position of camera. they have to mesh them together and I imagine they are going back timewise a couple of hours if not more. they have to analyze movements and actions. this is a gargantuan task and there probably wont be a smoking gun pic but the pix will lead them to suspects and in the interviews and research into suspects is where they find the perp(s)

179 And I'm not sure the truly crazy know what sane looks like enough to fake it when required.

My remote diagnosis is a little different.

Ricin Elvis is mimicking sanity poorly, and he has no idea that that's what he's doing. People's poor reactions to him have made him paranoid, because he doesn't get what's happening, what exchange is really going on between him and the world.

His kind of crazy is one that often shows up in "outsider art." Crazy people don't make crazy shit like Finnegans Wake or ear-shredding noise-symphonies. You have to know all kinds of mostly unspoken social and aesthetic codes to make that kind of thing. Crazy people make bad versions of normal shit, like "fan fiction" or Wild Man Fischer songs. And they don't know what it is about what they're doing that makes it repulsive. They can't tell the difference between "Merry Go Round" and "Ticket to Ride."

That's bum-crazy or crazy-uncle crazy, not homemade-biological-warfare crazy--which can manifest in any kind of dude except this kind.

Ricin Elvis is trying. That's not what any serious-problem crazy does. Not for long, anyway. And he's been at it for years.

And look what he got for it.

He didn't even add up population represented by the actual senators who voted against the bill. Which includes Texas, which as several large cities. My guess is they represent something closer to 40% of Americans.
Which BTW is the whole fucking point of the bicameral legislature, to prevent 51% from making the rules.

And of course all of his posturing ignores the fact that a majority of Americans were opposed to the legislation to begin with.

But that's never stopped him before - case in point Obamacare.

260 I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago. I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why an Elvis impersonator is charged with a crime. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..." When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think itÂ’s too much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

262 RE: Boston / Ricin letters

This might be a test of a 'new system' - where sleepers are used in a similar way that 'zombie boxes' are used in DDoS attacks. The people chosen are those among the cells that have no history and therefore are low on the list of suspects, and may have little to no evidence pointing to culpability.

Sleeper systems work best when orders are indirect - signals which are to the uninitiated undetectable as signals are used, which tell the sleepers that it is time to act. This is real basic spycraft kind of stuff I think, kids can figure it out.

The thing that strikes me as peculiar about the Boston attack is that it is not so much evil as just cruel; it didn't kill a lot, it just created misery and pain. In other words, it did little 'damage' but made a big psychological mark.

All of it is troubling.

My prediction:

1.The "Younger Pat Cadell" the guy with the same strap to his Backpack as the blown up one used in the bombing.

2. The balding white guy standing to the right of "Young Pat Cadell" with the sun glasses on in all the pictures.

I'm assuming with this prediction that the information of being a young white man coming out in the press is either disinformation, or just incorrect information.

99% chance I'm incorrect.

290 134 I think it's a shame we don't have foreign language classes in our lower schools.

Living in Germany for three years when my dad was in the AF, it was required to study the language. I was young and soaked it up like a sponge and spoke it fluently.

I studied French in high school for three years (including advanced my senior year) and can barely speak a word of it now. Same with German.

You really have to immerse yourself in a country to learn the language, I believe.

But they don't because it's a requirement for everyone, so it gets dumbed down.

292 Reading through KC's twitter, his passions, in order, seemed to be 1. Really bad music 2. The underground organ harvesting trade 3. Paranoia over Internet stalkers 4. Chemtrails Above all, by far, bad music. It wouldn't stun me if he's the real guy, but it wouldn't if it isn't either. I was expecting the "oh yeah they found him" reaction like Loughner or Holmes give you, but it wasn't close to that. Someone would have had to take a ton of effort to make it seem like him though, that's for sure. Then his paranoia would be well justified.

294 Here is my contribution to the panel of Idle Speculation. What we know about the Boston Bombing: sophisticated, devices of a type in common use by Jihadis, devices loaded with anti personnel shrapnel to cause maximum casualties, occurred in Boston, on Tax Day/Patriot Day. I would rule out your "average" anti Government extremist, despite the ugly CNN type musings, due to (a) the sheer cruelty/civilian casualty intensive nature of the attack, and (b) lack of any claim of responsibility/manifesto, etc. The more likely target of a McVeigh or fellow traveller I think would be an "official" Govt installation, and more concern about destruction of Govt installations or even Govt employees, vs such wanton, cruel pursuit of civilian casualties. Even a "lone wolf" totally deranged (Breivik type) would, I think, have published some early claim of responsibility. Given the cruelty/civilian seeking nature of the attack, I come back to the intense hatred of Americans and mindset of the committed Jihadi. But the lack of any claim of responsibility and choice of symbolism that puts the "Tea Party" under suspicion, brings me more to the extreme hard-core, Ayers type Commie left. Cui bono? From: (1) wanton killing/maiming of Americans, (2) a "blow" to an iconic American public event, and (3) causing suspicion to fall on "right wing" groups by the symbolism of Tax Day in Boston? If this was straight up Jihadi, or anything without seeking that collateral, political point (of bringing Tea Party/libertarians under suspicion) then I think someone would have claimed responsibility by now. So, I truly think there is a "false flag" aspect to this, and that those who did this are also hoping to weaken the political hand of the conservatives who are essentially the only ones left fighting for traditional America. I don't for a minute think that this is mainstream Democratic left, but this all hangs together I think as the work of the radical left, perhaps in collaboration with Jihadis. That, and I bet they all ate bread within 24 hours of the bombing.
