Bonus Embarrassment Open Thread
— Ace

Hey, you know Time puts out four covers for four different areas of the word?

I didn't know that.

But they do. They have a US cover, a Europe/Middle East/Africa cover, an Asia cover, and a South Pacific cover.

Yeah I don't get how they divided the world up myself.

But anyway.

So they have four covers.

Based on the covers, one person is dominating the world's interest... but not in the whole world.

Europe/Middle East/Africa

Asia

South Pacific

United States of Obama

Someone's a little protective, eh?

Bonus Snark:

They found a picture of Putin wearing a shirt.

Podcast: Don't miss this week's podcast with John Sexton of Breitbart (@verumserum).

Or, you know. Do miss it. Doesn't really matter. It's not like we're getting paid per click.

Choose wisely. Or don't. Doesn't matter either way.

21 Let's just set aside all the nonsense and get right to the point, if you are going to pay college athletes to play college sports, then you have to pay college students to be students.

That would solve the student loan problem, and you could eliminate college tuition completely. Put academics on the government payroll, pay people to attend college, and a whole long list of problems go away.

Don't stop with bringing the Cuban Health Care System to the United States, bring the Cuban Education System with it when you do. It's the only way to be fair, and it's for the children.

22 9 2. What the hell is the evolutionary purpose of the window head on that fish? Is it using its brain as a fishing lure? Posted by: joncelli a. Evolution has no purpose. b. The video suggests that the fish steals food from jelly-animals above it. The eyes are INSIDE the head - the two green things. It looks up and sees food against the (dim) light above. it steals food from the the jellies and, because the eyes are inside the head, the eyes don't take damage from the poisonous jelly tendrils.

70 Hey, Time (and all the other MSM outlets) put a lot of effort and money into getting Obama elected. (All those fawning articles didn't write themselves; all those halo photos didn't PhotoShop themselves). The MSM can't risk having the LIV's find out now that their "brilliant" president is a blithering idiot who has humiliated himself and his nation on the world stage. If the LIV's find out just how badly they've been screwed by the MSM, they might start looking elsewhere for their information, and the MSM can't allow that to happen.

Here is the JAXA home page: http://www.jaxa.jp/index_e.html Here is an animation of the Epsilon rocket. Note the neat way the launcher swings out from the service structure: http://tinyurl.com/k4b5wyf Here is the YouTube page which will feature live coverage beginning at about midnight EDT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSPzeSnSplM&feature=player_embedded#t=0 Liftoff is currently scheduled for 12:45 am EDT. I'll try to stay up for it, but I've been kind of dragging today so I don't know if I'll make it until then. It has been suggested that a small compact solid fueled rocket like Epsilon might also be useful as an ICBM, but you didn't hear that from me.

116 In 2001, Putin, who has advocated liberal economic policies, introduced a flat tax rate of 13%;[139][140] the corporate rate of tax was also reduced from 35 percent to 24 percent;[139] Small businesses also get better treatment. The old system with high tax rates has been replaced by a new system where companies can choose either a 6-percent tax on gross revenue or a 15-percent tax on profits.[139] The overall tax burden is lower in Russia than in most European countries.[141]

I seem to remember a lot of coverage of the Nashville floods, which was an event that went on for some time, while we are only in the 2nd day of the Colorado event.  I was shocked by the administration's decision to refuse emergency funds, clearly punishment, where that status has already been conferred for Boulder.  There is significant flooding throughout the front range, but the Boulder folk are very techie (and wealthy) in general, so they get their message out ...

209 Jesse dead or alive? Hank dead or alive? Gommie dead or alive? Uncle Jack dead or alive? Frankie dead or alive? Todd dead or alive? other nazis dead of alive? I say Hank & Gommie go to that big DEA in the sky. Frankie and maybe 2 or 3 of their nazi butt boys go to that big Nuremberg rally in hell.

212 202 You guys know Putin probably has a whole library of Chuck Norris's finest work. Posted by: Jean at September 13, 2013 09:55 PM (CMlD4) You know he's a big Sinatra fan and played the piano and sang One For My Baby at some public function? Hat, cigarette, drink, too.

Yosh,

Cover Left:
"Syria: Inside the D.C. War"

Cover Right:
"What Putin Wants"

Dividing Image - "The Heismann" which we all use idiomatically in reference to the situation of receiving a humiliating public rejection.  Who got "The Heismann"?  I think that's the obvious subtext here...

Posted by: LiveFromRussianHill at September 13, 2013 06:09 PM (nbrug)

218 Actually, the dialog from that Nicholas Cage movie about the winner and the home coming queen comes to mind when I look at that cover.

223 >>a. Read what you said again again. Evolution IS the purpose.

227 A caller to the Michael Savage program, being guest hosted by JD Hayward just said he was at the Capitol Grill on Wednesday and he was out with co workers and he got up to go somewhere and he looked over to a dark booth and who was sitting there, having dinner, and talking very low but John McCain and Ted Cruz.

Hayward had just been asking if Cruz is poised to go into the Rubio light.  He was discussing this before I tuned in so he must have had good reasons to bring up cruz and talk about this subject.  Hayward was shocked.  The caller was upset.

228 That and having to cut the local mafia (government) in on everything.

Putin is cracking down on that stuff.  What used to be safe regional political sinecures have become not so safe, and they've instituted a policy of "3-years and out" for regional honchos.

You can only spend 3 years in a region, then you have to move on to a different one.  Presumably, this will help to reduce people building their own lifetime regional centers of corruption.

We would do well to look at some of the reforms Putin's been instituting.  Bouncing GS-15/16 types around from agency to agency would make it harder for Lois Learner types to burrow in like ticks if they had to reestablish their corruption and power bases in new locations every few years.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but the Time cover has nothing whatever to do with Time's top editor Rick Stengel going to work for the State Dept.

Really. It doesn't.

237 I've ignored Time for the last few years; due to their consistant status as irrelevant. However, this cover story comparison managed to provoke a dropped jaw. I don't know whether to laugh or to feel frightened. If censorship at that level dominated everywhere.. well, ok it does, but not all news sources. Perhaps it is the comparison of photos that strikes the heart... just damn. Ok, I'm rambling, but its been a long day
