— Ace The right is being asked to give up something important and large which will change the course of this nation's politics for 40+ years, to our detriment.
And the left?
The left is being asked to provide a fakey figleaf with which conservative politicians can con conservative voters.
They've agreed to do so. Go figure.
Among the many misrepresentations, falsehoods, deceptions, and outright lies told by supporters of the Gang of Eight bill, the biggest involve border security.Put simply, there is no border security in the bill. ItÂ’s a mirage. The bill only requires the DHS secretary to present a plan to secure the border. Meanwhile, the amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants isnÂ’t merely a plan, itÂ’s a reality.
The bill’s various border-security “triggers” are little more than “boob bait for the bubbas,” providing no guarantees whatsoever that any steps will be taken to secure the border. In fact, the enforcement mechanisms are far weaker than the security requirements in previous immigration bills. The border promises to be an even bigger sieve affter passage of the bill than before.
...
The bill, after amendments, is now over 1,000 pages long. They could’ve easily reduced it to just a single page with one word: “Amnesty.”

The Dems would agree to the most draconian enforcement if they had to, so long as they get amnesty. And then ignore the enforcement exactly as every administration since before Reagan has and let the flood pour in. Until I see an answer for that I say NO. No now, no later, no to anything. Enforce the damned law first, then we can talk.

But it's self defeating. They have cheap labor now. Adding more possibly-employable workers to an economy with 10%+ unemployment doesn't make labor any cheaper. And when and if we approach full employment, they will still try to employ whatever illegal labor is available because that is the only source of below-market employees.

Same thing McCain is doing- trying to suck up to the large Hispanic demographics in their states.
Then there's the WSJ / Chamber types who simply want an unlimited supply of cheap labor, and don't mind buying some Senators to advance that cause.
This has nothing to do with what's best for the GOP or the country. It has everything to do with Rubio trying to protect Rubio's incumbency- the rest of the country and it's future be damned.

Had co-bloggers: Lori Byrd, WC Verones(sp?) and another who's name escapes me.
Anyway, PoliPundit is a legal immigrant I gather and the last go-round of amnesty had he against and the others in favor.
And he kicked their asses out: "Either you're against amnesty or you can find another internet home."

It doesn't matter what law is passed. Based on what we've seen in the SCOAMF administration, immigration laws can be enforced or not enforced at the whim of whoever is in the White House. Laws are becoming irrelevant.

So, strap amnesty to the Third Rail of entitlements, and watch the Democrats and their RINO allies try to get it unstrapped.
The pitch is simple.
"Social Security is going broke. Fast. Medicare is going broke. Fast. We're looking at major trouble even before the end of this decade. Amnesty will make tens of millions of people eligible for Social Security benefits and Medicare benefits that they haven't paid in for, and make those systems go broke even faster."

They wanted to lose if it meant that the Tea Party would be taken out.
Seems more and more like collusion to me.
==========
That's exactly what happened.
These Tea Party heads are not wimps.
And they got the ear of their local House Rep more than once, "Why is my application being delayed? My attorney has done dozens of these and not one has ever had the any of questions I've been asked. What are you going to do? They're asking about our prayers for God's sake."
And that was told either directly or indirectly to Speaker Boner more than once.
He. Did. Nothing.
So, here's the deal the House conservatives need to make: As soon as amnesty is dead, the IRS thing goes away.
That's the leverage.

Friend --
Trying to get Congress to pass good, progressive legislation isn't easy -- we know that pretty well by now.
That's why this is so important: Right now, Congress is closer to passing comprehensive immigration reform than they've been in a generation.
Last Tuesday, a smart, bipartisan bill for comprehensive immigration reform moved ahead toward a full vote in the Senate -- and that vote could happen in just a matter of weeks.
If there was ever a time to get off the sidelines, it's now.
Simply add your name and say you'll join our fight for immigration reform today.
Just as we're going to rail on Congress when they cave to pressure from special interests and fail the people who sent them there, we're going to rally behind them when they start getting things done.
The organizing on the ground, the Days of Action, the tweets, Facebook posts, and calls to Congress are working -- but we absolutely can not let up now.
If we fail, it might be years before we get anywhere near this close again.
Keep going.
Add your name today:

I has been said Obama didn't actually expect to win the nomination in 2008. He expected to build his resume for a future run or get the VP slot at best. Hence, his being unprepared professionally, intellectually and emotionally for the job.
By the same token, wonder if Rubio planned on the Reps taking the Senate in 2012 and putting immigration on a back-burner. Then he could posture and play to the Hispanics in Florida and elsewhere, while building his stature for a future presidential run. All without the risk of a bill coming to a vote.
