"Boob Bait for Bubbas:" The "Conservative" Con on Amnesty
— Ace

The right is being asked to give up something important and large which will change the course of this nation's politics for 40+ years, to our detriment.

And the left?

The left is being asked to provide a fakey figleaf with which conservative politicians can con conservative voters.

They've agreed to do so. Go figure.

Among the many misrepresentations, falsehoods, deceptions, and outright lies told by supporters of the Gang of Eight bill, the biggest involve border security.

Put simply, there is no border security in the bill. ItÂ’s a mirage. The bill only requires the DHS secretary to present a plan to secure the border. Meanwhile, the amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants isnÂ’t merely a plan, itÂ’s a reality.

The bill’s various border-security “triggers” are little more than “boob bait for the bubbas,” providing no guarantees whatsoever that any steps will be taken to secure the border. In fact, the enforcement mechanisms are far weaker than the security requirements in previous immigration bills. The border promises to be an even bigger sieve affter passage of the bill than before.

...

The bill, after amendments, is now over 1,000 pages long. They could’ve easily reduced it to just a single page with one word: “Amnesty.”

7 Who cares?  Forget all that and watch the elephant in the room.

The Dems would agree to the most draconian enforcement if they had to, so long as they get amnesty.  And then ignore the enforcement exactly as every administration since before Reagan has and let the flood pour in.  Until I see an answer for that I say NO.  No now, no later, no to anything.  Enforce the damned law first, then we can talk.

20 Well yeah, if it's bipartisan, it will tend to suck because Democrats do everything in bad faith and Republican politicians aren't all that competent when it comes to legislatin'. That being said, the only way the Republican party has any future is if it figures out a way to a) encourage assimilation and b) stem the tide of future immigration as more immigration means less assimilation.

29 The "business" Republicans should be ashamed of themselves. They are advocating this crap because working class Americans no longer want to "work." Yet the imported laborers are going to get there in less than a generation, especially with welfare benefits and naturalization. What a stupid, stupid move, and one that will doom Republicans to permanent minority status.

30 Cheap labor.

Posted by: Y-not at May 28, 2013 05:42 PM (5H6zj)

But it's self defeating. They have cheap labor now. Adding more possibly-employable workers to an economy with 10%+ unemployment doesn't make labor any cheaper. And when and if we approach full employment, they will still try to employ whatever illegal labor is available because that is the only source of below-market employees.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at May 28, 2013 01:46 PM (O6Tmi)

31 Here's one theory -- Repub leadership has accepted that Dems will be the ruling party for the next 50 years. So now they are just trying secure their own power in the minority and, perhaps, limit the worst excesses of the Left. Any Repub who supports amnesty doesn't seriously expect the Repubs to contend.

Same thing McCain is doing- trying to suck up to the large Hispanic demographics in their states.

Then there's the WSJ / Chamber types who simply want an unlimited supply of cheap labor, and don't mind buying some Senators to advance that cause.

This has nothing to do with what's best for the GOP or the country.  It has everything to do with Rubio trying to protect Rubio's incumbency- the rest of the country and it's future be damned.

64 We've been told for thirty years straight that there is no more dangerous issue in American politics than reform of Social Security and Medicare. Those are, it is said, the electrified "Third Rail" which no politician dare touch.

So, strap amnesty to the Third Rail of entitlements, and watch the Democrats and their RINO allies try to get it unstrapped.

The pitch is simple.

"Social Security is going broke. Fast. Medicare is going broke. Fast. We're looking at major trouble even before the end of this decade. Amnesty will make tens of millions of people eligible for Social Security benefits and Medicare benefits that they haven't paid in for, and make those systems go broke even faster."

109 76 My theory that the GOP establishment wants this is mirrored by the fact that they had all the info about the IRS as early as spring of '12 and waited until now to do anything.

They wanted to lose if it meant that the Tea Party would be taken out.

Seems more and more like collusion to me.
==========
That's exactly what happened.
These Tea Party heads are not wimps.
And they got the ear of their local House Rep more than once, "Why is my application being delayed? My attorney has done dozens of these and not one has ever had the any of questions I've been asked. What are you going to do? They're asking about our prayers for God's sake."

And that was told either directly or indirectly to Speaker Boner more than once.

He. Did. Nothing.

So, here's the deal the House conservatives need to make: As soon as amnesty is dead, the IRS thing goes away.

That's the leverage.

120 from today's email: I hope people like Rubio are reading:

Friend --

Trying to get Congress to pass good, progressive legislation isn't easy -- we know that pretty well by now.

That's why this is so important: Right now, Congress is closer to passing comprehensive immigration reform than they've been in a generation.

Last Tuesday, a smart, bipartisan bill for comprehensive immigration reform moved ahead toward a full vote in the Senate -- and that vote could happen in just a matter of weeks.

If there was ever a time to get off the sidelines, it's now.

Simply add your name and say you'll join our fight for immigration reform today.

Just as we're going to rail on Congress when they cave to pressure from special interests and fail the people who sent them there, we're going to rally behind them when they start getting things done.

The organizing on the ground, the Days of Action, the tweets, Facebook posts, and calls to Congress are working -- but we absolutely can not let up now.

If we fail, it might be years before we get anywhere near this close again.

Keep going.

I has been said Obama didn't actually expect to win the nomination in 2008. He expected to build his resume for a future run or get the VP slot at best.  Hence, his being unprepared professionally, intellectually and emotionally for the job.

By the same token, wonder if Rubio planned on the Reps taking the Senate in 2012 and putting immigration on a back-burner.  Then he could posture and play to the Hispanics in Florida and elsewhere, while building his stature for a future presidential run.  All without the risk of a bill coming to a vote.

We sit back and bitch because we're getting screwed, and so we keep getting screwed. And yes, they will be audited. Heck, the TEA Party movement might have been part of this if they hadn't been muzzled, in part, by the IRS and the rest of the Criminal Administration we're lumbered with right now. They should be repealing the Medical Power Grab as well, but that's part of the larger Squirrel Always Works problem. Why couldn't they actually *be* the Party of No?!?!

154 I believe the current illegal invaders have absolutely zero interest in assimilating, and although I have been steadfast in my stance on no amnesty since I can remember the 1987 promise that was broken, I however see the reality of those that are here and am becoming more of a fan of the "open borders" idea.  This does not mean that I no longer care about the security of our borders, in fact I still demand it.  It does mean that I'm willing to say let those here now stay as long as they want, but they should never be given citizenship.  I want it to be zero drain on my pocketbook or way of life.  US first, non-citizens second. Period.  It should also mean there their is a disincentive to stay, no free anything.  Period.  Tax their ass, let the foreign invader pay for my way of life.  I only want citizenship given to those that want to assimilate to the traditional US way of life.

163 11 It's all a giant kabuki crock of shit. The minute this passes, Schumer will file a suit against himself and the SCOTUS will strike down the provisions of no voting and welfare. We are being played. _______________________ In so many ways. For example, the amnesty bill's ban on giving amnestied illegals welfare and Obamacare subsidies only lasts for 10 years after the bill is passed. Coincidentally (wink, wink), when the CBO does its analysis of the economic impact of the amnesty bill, it only looks at . . . wait for it . . . the first 10 years! U.S. taxpayers will be screwed over in so many different ways if this terrible amnesty bill passes. Not only will tens of millions of low-skill, poorly-educated illegal aliens get amnesty, but the bill even EXPANDS the chain migration rights those amnestied illegals will get, meaning they'll get to bring in tens of millions more low-skill, poorly-educated family members from their home countries. The illegals amnestied in the 1986 amnesty brought in an average of three more family members each, through chain migration. And remember, the "gang of 8's" amnesty bill enlarges the definition of "immediate family member" for purposes of chain migration, so the illegals who get amnesty under this current bill will be bringing in even more than three family members. And the bill has NO LIMITS on how many illegal aliens can get amnesty, and NO LIMITS on how many millions of family members they can bring in through chain migration.
