BREAKING: Benghazi "Talking Points" Went Through TWELVE Revisions
— DrewM

Via National Review's Morning Jolt email newsletter.

"When it became clear last fall that the CIA's now discredited Benghazi talking points were flawed, the White House said repeatedly the documents were put together almost entirely by the intelligence community, but White House documents reviewed by Congress suggest a different story.

ABC News has obtained 12 different versions of the talking points that show they were extensively edited as they evolved from the drafts first written entirely by the CIA to the final version distributed to Congress and to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.

White House emails reviewed by ABC News suggest the edits were made with extensive input from the State Department. The edits included requests from the State Department that references to the Al Qaeda-affiliated group Ansar al-Sharia be deleted as well references to CIA warnings about terrorist threats in Benghazi in the months preceding the attack.

That would appear to directly contradict what White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said about the talking points in November.

"Those talking points originated from the intelligence community. They reflect the IC's best assessments of what they thought had happened," Carney told reporters at the White House press briefing on November 28, 2012. "The White House and the State Department have made clear that the single adjustment that was made to those talking points by either of those two institutions were changing the word 'consulate' to 'diplomatic facility' because 'consulate' was inaccurate."

Here's the kicker: "In an email to officials at the White House and the intelligence agencies, State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland took issue with including that information because it "could be abused by members [of Congress] to beat up the State Department for not paying attention to warnings, so why would we want to feed that either? Concerned . . ."

Yes, I'd be "concerned" if I were a politically ambitious Secratery of State about the truth getting out about how my department absolutely fell down on the job of providing adequate security to the Benghazi facility and that directly led to the death of four Americans.

These incompetent sons of bitches got people killed and all they cared about was saving their sorry ass reputations.

Added: Democrats are working to get reporters to smear Benghazi whistleblowers. Amazingly, some are reporting on that and not doing Obama's dirty work.

28 NBC’s Lisa Myers Says “Number Of Democrats” Calling Her To Attempt To Undermine Benghazi Whistleblower… Safe to say behind the scenes Dems are in full-blown panic mode. “There is something called Benghazi going on, and I think the Democrats now are starting to worry about it. I started. I got calls from a number of Democrats yesterday trying to undermine Greg Hicks’s testimony, saying he wasn’t demoted. So I think they feel that some damage was done by those three witnesses on Wednesday.” If NBC/MSNBC are actually reporting on this and in a negative way for obama, then the damn might actually be breaking on this. You could edit those talking points a million times and they would never be able to spin why there wasn't even an attempt to send a response during the attack.

That is the linchpin of this scandal.  Not the refusal to provide more security before.  Not the attempted spin that it was a spontaneous protest.

It is the fact that they let our people be murdered and injured  and  intentionally not  lifting a finger to help.

117 >>That is the linchpin of this scandal. Not the refusal to provide more security before. Not the attempted spin that it was a spontaneous protest. I disagree slightly. Hillary and State have been trying to make the case ever since this went down that they were never warned about deteriorating security conditions in Benghazi. Stevens diary along with things like testimony from Hicks and Nordstrom are proving this to be an absolute lie. In fact, they were begging for more security, documenting attacks by Islamic militants and Stevens even claimed he was told that he was on an al Qaeda hit list. Knowing all of this not only to State not increase security they actually decreased security. That alone demonstrates unbelievable incompetence on the part of State who were charged with providing security for their people, particularly those in highly dangerous spots like Benghazi and on the anniversary of 9/11. That's why the talking points were scrubbed of any reference to Islamic terrorists and there was an attempt to shift the blame to a dumb video. Hillary doesn't give a shit about dead Americans. #106 But that's also part of why the coverup was necessary.  A "spontaneous demonstration" does not rise to the level of sending in the military.  A "terrorist attack" does, and also demands a response to the terrorists after the fact.  Obama wanted no part of any of that, 8 weeks before the election.

They were either venal or incompetent in not sending in the military when people still could have been saved, so they had to invent another narrative of the attack to allow them to say that military force would not have been justified under the circumstances.

So this isn't just about saving Hillary's ass, and I do not think we should be satisifed that the talking points bullshit all came out of the State Department just because that could end Hillary's political career.  The White House had every reason to want to participate in this coverup and the investigation should continue until that is known to all.

152 Okay, here's my take on what actually happened.  I posted it on Hot Air last night.

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, hereafter referred to as the VRWC, used the wayback machine to ensure Hillary Clinton was defeated in the 2008 democrat primaries. It was an expensive proposition, but well worth the money that was rolled over from a VRWC slush fund set up by Bush when he blew up the World Trade Centers and Pentagon so that he could invade Iraq and avenge the unsatisfactory end to Operation Desert Storm and his fatherÂ’s loss to the sleazy Bill Clinton in the 1992 election. The VRWC then brokered a deal between a little known junior senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, and John McCain that allowed McCain the honor of being nominated (it was his turn) without all the bother of trying to win the election. The deal turned on Hillary Clinton being named Secretary of State and this Obama promised to do (after that, he could just play golf and give speeches). Once Hillary was in at State, the rest was simple. The VRWC arranged a coup in Libya, getting the no longer terror supporting Qaddafy out of the way and a bunch of terrorist supporting yahoos in. CIA would try to buy back all the shoulder mounted missiles that NATO (meaning the US) had given the rebels. An adjunct facility would have to be set up in an out of the way backwater (like all of Libya isnÂ’t a backwater) to take out the Ambassador. Meanwhile, a low value flunky had to be found to take the fall. An untalented wannabe film maker agreed to make an inane video that could be blamed for the murder of the Ambassador and any other collateral damage that might occur. The VRWC has an equally vast slush fund, IYKWIMAITYD, so they made it worth his while. The original plan was to have Clinton go on the Sunday talk shows and blame the video, but the veteran of a Little Rock law firm and marriage to Bill Clinton was far too canny for that, so UN Ambassador Susan Rice had to be sacrificed. Too bad, really, sheÂ’d have made a heck of an SoS. Since Clinton didnÂ’t bite on the original scheme, the VRWC had to with their second, even more diabolical plan: Hearings! Hearings of the House Oversight Committee would finally take Hillary Clinton out of running for the presidency forever!

154 133 We're still looking for the bar. The bar on how low the media will go to protect all of these scumbags in the WH and Congress. The bar on how low the media will go, until (some?) realize just how much freedom they are losing. The bar on how low the media will go on protecting common, low-class, federal criminals and pathological liars. Still waiting. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at May 10, 2013 10:06 AM (XYSwB) The bar has been met, for me, on the weekend Susan Rice lied, after the entire British Press had the story correct on within 48 hours. Within 24 hours they listed the lack of security at the consulate, the attempted bombing of the British ambassador, etc. I woke up that weekend thinking the story was going to break wide open, and no one but Ace, conservative bloggers, FOX, CNRO had the story aligning with the British Press. Susan Rice lied about Americans who died as the direct result of their incompetence. So, IMHO, the bar has been crossed.

They will not accept or understand why there was not even an attempt at sending in a military response much less having the government order a stand down.

JMO - this was all part and parcel of Susan Rice's strategy of making nice to the Muslims as they took over northern Africa, hoping they would be friends with us.  A consulate in Benghazi bristling with heavily armed Marines and razor wire fences was not the image she wanted to project.  Chris Stevens was made Ambassador because Hillary and Rice thought he was popular with the locals, despite the fact he was openly gay.

These naive fools thought they could catch more flies with honey than vinegar in Libya.  Their naivete got Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans killed.

"This We'll Defend" - US Army

"Send Me" - 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID(M)

"That Others May Live" - Air Force PJs

"Always Faithful" - Marine Corps

"Anything, Anytime, Anywhere" - 7th SFG

"Let's Go" - 11th Cav

See any pattern  here?   I guarantee you, any soldier, Marine, airman, sailor or special operator, active duty, attached or inactive when faced with Americans under attack  immediately starts marching to the sound of the guns.

Bill was, of course, glowing at her side as he loves any camera pointing at him. I will always believe she was forced into this job by the Dem machine, and she wanted no part of the legacy of The Won. She knew his secrets and he knew the Clinton's. 215 WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service inappropriately flagged conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status, a top IRS official said Friday.

Organizations were singled out because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status, said Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups.

In some cases, groups were asked for their list of donors, which violates IRS policy in most cases, she said.

"That was wrong. That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate. That's not how we go about selecting cases for further review," Lerner said at a conference sponsored by the American Bar Association.

"The IRS would like to apologize for that," she added.

Lerner said the practice was initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati and was not motivated by political bias. After her talk, she told The AP that no high level IRS officials knew about the practice.

Agency officials found out about the practice last year and moved to correct it, the IRS said in a statement. The statement did not specify when officials found out.

About 75 groups were inappropriately targeted. None had their tax-exempt status revoked, Lerner said.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky called on the White House to investigate.

... taking bets that nobody was fired over this breech of IRS policy.

217 It's amazing how Democrat administrations abuse the loyalty of their supporters to the point of destroying them. Just as Bill Clinton destroyed the credibility of the feminists and split NOW ( see Tammy Bruce), Obama is now splitting the press in the same way. It is interesting to see at what point different reporters notice their credibility evaporating. Or even which ones notice and care.
