Bumper Sticker Philosophy - (Niedermeyer's Dead Horse)
— Open Blogger

We all bemoan the "bumper sticker philosophers", and despise the hippie "Save the Baby Seals" bumper stickers, but...sometimes the sticker hits the mark, or makes an otherwise dreadful commute a little less dreadful, and sometimes, they make you giggle even years later.

My favorite was spotted at a DQ drive-thru about 20 years ago:

If God didn't intend for us to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

What are some of your faves? Which drive you nuts?

"War is Not the Answer."

Except when it is. Morons. I used to love it when Christopher Hitchens, in front a good lefty crowd, walked through the history of 20th century and painted what the world would look like if we'd listened to the anti-war movement every time they said war wasn't the answer.

Posted by: M. Murcek at January 19, 2013 06:53 PM (GJUgF)

My nom de blog is based on a poem, Mr. Dick For Brains.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

574 So what is it about the family stick figure stickers that we find so annoying?

I saw a funny twist on the family line-up.  The family was running, dragging the kids along, exactly like the Illegal Alien Crossing icon that Caltrans uses on the I-5.  It was on the back of a battered Chevy Astro, so I figured they must be real illegal aliens.

Only in America can you get away with advertising the fact that you're in the country illegally.

Yeah, that.

I don't yet dare to write much on Islamic origins - real origins, not just Umayyad history - but there's some strong hints from the origins of other post-JudaeoChristian religions.

Is Mormonism a heresy of Methodism or Calvinism or the Baptists? That's the wrong question, I'll submit: it was a prophet who picked and chose from whatever he thought would attract the most followers.

Is Islam a heresy of Jewish apocalypticism or of extreme Nestorianism or of the gnostics or of Zoroastrianism...?

It looks to me like Islam was a product of a prophet who picked and chose from the locals of the 600s Near East.

Probably was, but he could afford to do it and most ladies were probably starstruck...so his other 'attributes' could be overlooked.  I need a car like that...why couldn't I be rich and famous??  Life isn't fair...and then you get old and die.  I've got a lock on one of those, and I'm sure the last part is lurking just out there in the weeds waiting for me to let down my guard..
On a positive note...I'm winning Powerball tonight.  The girl who sold me the ticket told me it was definitely a winner.  And, of course, I've NEVER been lied to by a woman.
