Buzzfeed Runs Very Buzzfeedish Piece on Shutdown Theater
— Ace

And actually it's pretty damn funny. I rate it three LOLs, one WTF, and two WINs.

So BuzzFeed puts aside its usual Democratic leanings to admit the ridiculousness of this, but the rest of the media is still embargoing the story?

I guess it's that old observation in effect: You can say in a joke what Social Codes forbid you to say seriously.

And so I guess I'd ask what kind of "truth-seeking" media is it that imposes a Social Code upon itself from ever criticizing The One's policies.

Well, since more LIVs probably read    Buzzfeed   than watch the network news, maybe    it's   a wash.

38 I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago. I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why people have so little respect for yellow caution tape. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..." When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country? Why don't they stay behind the barricades?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think itÂ’s too much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

42 Okay, I thought that was hilarious. My only concern is that it starts making a joke out of how the NPS isn't really enforcing the shutdown of the monuments. Two problems with that- one, the barrycades shouldn't be up in the first place. Two, it ignores the very real abuses like that farm and what happened at Yellowstone (aside: I always have trouble typing 'Yellowstone,' I want to type 'Jellystone.'). So I did think it was funny, and maybe it'll help in a "theater of the absurd" sort of way, but I'm still ticked at the MFM (delenda est) for trying to paper over this whole thing.

I think I understand what you're saying, and I partly agree. Sure, making light of this understates what an aggressive, hostile, and criminal mindset lurks behind the action.

But you can't get there in one step.  Before people can even dream of that conclusion, they have to first feel free to say "This is wrong and ridiculous."

A few years ago I was vacationing up at Acadia and he decided to blow down for a week. Between them shutting down any mountain he was on and closing the only road in or out, our once a year vacation was ruined. Don't even get me started on the Secret Service questioning people that had backpacks on at a place where people primarily HIKE for recreation. Oh, and bringing his entire entourage spoiled any nature you may want to see since they'd just plod through anything and everything.

These people are complete and total narcissists; if it's good for them, they'll screw up the little peoples one source of enjoyment without a care. And to try and point to anyone other than this shit-show ignores all past behavior.

157 Here's a shutdown story from the front. I am presently a camp host for the Bureau of Land Management near Moab, UT. Local BLM tried to keep the camps open on the downlow, but national news reported they were open so the Shite House immediately ordered them shut. It is destroying the local economy.

There are thousands of disappointed foreign tourists who came to visit the national parks here. Most poignant for me was when a Chinese couple stopped their rental car and asked me if it would be OK to walk over to look at the Colorado River. I said sure. When they returned, the woman came over, put her arm around me and laid her head on my shoulder, saying in a sad voice: "I waited thirty years to come see your national parks, and now they are all closed." How do you respond to that?

Now the southern Utah county commissioners are considering having the local sheriffs departments open the federal parks and other properties by force if necessary. This may be interesting.

They are talking about opening up the government again with the "concession" being the repeal of the medical device tax. That is utter bullshit! The GOP and the Democrats have done nothing but hurt the average American and now they are helping out businesses YET AGAIN but keeping themselves exempted, their friends, and corporate America from feeling the effects of this POS bill. I have to still purchase insurance or I will be fined, I still have to deal with this on a day to day basis affecting my personal health care choices, and I still have to see it affecting my job. This bullshit concession is completely asinine and they are taking ANOTHER funding mechanism out of the "revenue neutral" bill without getting something to replace it. So now we are just adding more debt to me and my eventual offspring's head.

182 The thing that is different about this shutdown, as opposed to prior ones, is the mindset of the public. In prior times, the economy was actually doing okay. Yeah we'd have recessions that lasted a quarter or two, then it was back to work. So people thought, 'I'm doing okay, leave the government alone.'' But we're coming up on a decade of diminished expectations. Those 52% who bought into hope and change are now five years into no change. It's not like they're going to get all fired up about anything, as long as they still keep getting their free shit from the govmint.

I am very sorry the very immature man in charge of this country is doing this. I am sorry for the loss of opportunity for you and your family to see many of the wonders of our great nation. Your people, your country, China, has been very generous in investing in the United States, and loaning the United States large sums of money. In order to ensure, not only for our nation, but for yours as well, that, that promise will be kept and that trust was not unfounded, we must take the radical actions which precipitated this juvenile behavior in our nations leadership. Not only for ours but your next generation that will either reap the rewards of having wisely invested in a prosperous and responsible nation, or suffer the devastating loss of the wealth your nation builds today thrown away on loan that cannot be repaid, we must engage in this theater of shutdown with the puerile and immature leaders of our nation. It is not only for us and ours, but for you and yours. I hope you understand that. Again I'm sorry that you couldn't see all the wonders of our Nation in the limited time you are able to visit it.

234 183 --- There's another difference, at least from what I have seen in SW VA. LIVs, and even some leftists, are beginning to grasp that the NPS is actually spending MORE money than usual to shut things down. When you leave the Blue Ridge Parkway open (which costs NPS money) but shut down the private concessions (which make piles of money for the NPS) and then you spend extra money on barricades and cops, what does that mean? Most LIVs are not stupid when it comes to things in their own backyard. And they don't like it.

Yup.... food prices are about to spike... and we're still by Government mandate turning Food into Fuel via the Ethanol crap....

What IS interesting... is that there is a historic connection between food price spikes, and revolution (about the only outlier is the American Revolution).  French Rev, Russian Rev... even the stuff going on in the Mideast today... all were PREceeded by food price spikes.

268 you know, I just had a thought... CJ Roberts upheld the ACA mandate on the grounds that Congress can legislation laws about tax. Can I refuse to pay the "penalty" if the law doesn't call it a tax? If I can think of it, others can too, so I would be surprised to be the first one, but could there eventually be a legal challenge when one someone is actually required to pay the "penalty"?

270 I think that was aimed at all those decrying the shutdown and applauding those who ignored the barriers and entered the supposed "closed" areas.

It's snark.

They don't mention, of course, incidents like the armed removal of folks from private property or other like incidents further west than DC where the NPS takes a more "militant" attitude about it's mandate.

Personally, I can't think of any article or post that merits repetition here. Especially due to it's being the main outlet for Ben Smith who is a total Obama sellout and shill. One of the original "Journolistas".

274 There are thousands of disappointed foreign tourists who came to visit the national parks here.

279 I think this post gets what Buzzfeed intended quite wrong. What Buzzfeed was trying to say is that the right is overblowing the closings and that people are still free to come and go and that all the anger on the right is over something that is no big deal and that the government isn't enforcing. The article was snark aimed at the right. The ONLY reason the comments don't reflect this is because Drudge linked the story and too many early commentators failed to realize Buzzfeed was actually mocking the right's concerns about the closings because - see - there are no closings at all! Whooppee!!
