That said, I continue to view the 300 EV strategy as exuberant nonsense.
There aren't going to be any more Reagan style sweeps in presidential elections by the GOP, as a result of fundamental demographic change. Change enabled in part by Reagan himself and his dimwitted endorsement of the 1986 amnesty.
Whaddaya need to win? 270. Get to 270 with a reliable strategy and a good nominee. Anything more than that is gravy.
The problem is that the GOP has been putting forth crummy nominees. McCains and Romneys. Wavering moderates who were touted for their ability to pull independent swing voters, but who were not able to energize the conservative base. Getting independents is only half the equation for success.

For all these years, theyÂ’ve hidden the truth about the Kennedy assassination.
It didnÂ’t require a conspiracy. It just took repeating a falsehood until it was accepted as conventional wisdom. The myth about the Kennedy assassination is that President John F. Kennedy, at great personal risk, traveled to Dallas a.k.a. the City of Hate, and was somehow murdered by an atmosphere of intolerance. The truth is that he was shot by a communist.
As James Piereson writes in his brilliant book Camelot and the Cultural Revolution, liberals had the choice after the assassination to make Kennedy a martyr to civil rights or admit that he was a casualty of the Cold War. They found the notion of Kennedy dying for racial progress much more congenial and useful, even though it depended on a rank distortion.
The misdirection, as Piereson points out, began in the immediate aftermath of Lee Harvey Oswald’s act of murder. A New York Times headline intoned, “Why America Weeps: Kennedy Victim of Violent Streak He Sought to Curb in the Nation.” Earl Warren, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, blamed “the hatred and bitterness that has been injected into the life of our nation by bigots.”

O?T, but regarding O-Care enrollees don't have to have young and healthy. A 58 year old healthy guy who never goes to the doctor is just as valuable as a 28 yo healthy guy who never goes to the doctor at this point, because the system has to get stabalized in the first year or insurers are going to start pulling plans from the exchanges. If you expect that a not insignificant percentage of the 50-65 cohort are going to be limited users of care, and that instead comes in close to 0% the insurance companies are boned. If any age cohort has a higher percentage of 'power users' than the insurers predicted, then every other cohort needs fewer 'power users' to make up the difference. We focus on the young because it can typically be assumed a large percentage of the young will be healthy, but there is a portion of every age cohort that simply uses no care outside emergency/accidental injury.

He lacked $$ because the GOP was sore at him for besting their guy, Mr. It's Your Turn, at the convention. They were pissed off that the grassroots rejected Bolling. So they held back $$. In 2009 they spent $9million on McDonnell's win and in 2013 they spent only $3million. The Establishment wanted to punish the upstart grassroots/Tea Party for not accepting their RINO candidate. How dare they?! Futhermore, they wanted Cuccinelli to lose so they could juxtapose that loss to Christie's win and claim they were right that RINOs win (except that they don't *nationally*).

Unless the demographics of the Horde have changed faster than the state of Virginia between 2005-2013, then yeah -- Mark Levin is viewed as a faintly ridiculous, constantly frothy-mouthed figure of fun around here. Always, always, ALWAYS screaming.
I mean, he's not a worthless turd or anything.
I will confess that the radio host I most enjoy (when I get to hear him) is John Batchelor. Just covers so much more ground than your typical right-wing talker. I hear about subjects that otherwise NEVER come up on the radio, like doings in the Far East or Central Asia, or political history, etc. And Richard Epstein (my favoritest law professor of them all) is a frequent guest.

Yes, and the former completely eliminates the value of the latter -- there are tons of people out there who are "on the right side of every single issue," so one whose general style and tone peels skin off bone at 500 feet is kind of problematic.
And Mark Levin certainly wasn't right when he was endorsing a bonkers Birther in that AL-1 special election a month ago, I can tell you that much.

Bullshit. They "held back" (by 'only' spending $3 million) because they didn't think he had much of a chance- and up until the final two weeks of his campaign that view was well justified and shared by most observers.
As to the $9 million the RNC spent on McDonnell, that was during the big spending Steele days that left the RNC with massive debt and in poor financial condition.
Cuccinelli raised what- $400,000? In a race where McAuliffe raised $20 million? That's on Cuccinelli, not to mention the poorly worded comments that his opponent exploited (if unfairly).

Romney might have been a viable candidate on Main Street before the 2008 crash.
After that, and probably for a long time to come, guys who have worked on Wall Street all their adult lives, as Romney had, are voting booth poison on Main Street. Even if they personally had nothing to do with the derivatives casino or the crash.

Listen, I'm no stranger to ranting myself. But when you ask me what style I personally find more compelling and effective, it's generally either a more soft-spoken (not in terms of politics, just in terms of style) or humorous one. The ranters...eh, there was a time when I liked that stuff (hey, I do it myself, though certainly not much recently if you hadn't noticed), but I was a younger man. I have too much stress in my real world life to listen to an angry man shrieking nonstop about how we conservatives are surrounded by traitors in our midsts and communists opposite the aisle. It doesn't inform me of anything I don't already know (or have heard and disagree with), and it doesn't convince someone who isn't on-side already.
Rush sometimes gets angry, but not often -- usually he's funny and biting and ironic, but always with a healthy conservative sense of "this is the black farce of humanity" lurking behind his words. It's a solid worldview, a truly conservative one. There really isn't much (if any) HATE in him that I can detect. Batchelor's show is just very intellectual, which as a snooty East Coast Elite New Class Snob I of course like. I think it's cool as fuck that I'll turn on that show at random times and he'll be interviewing an author of a new book on Watergate, or learning about Central Asian mining, or whatever.

You lawyers may understand that lawfare is the last resort if you own the media and want to appear like you're fighting. An activist judiciary will back you up. The Constitution provides remedies, if we live it. (I am not talking about the 2A here, but it is available.)
Wisconsin, basically across the river from Red Wing. You could make the case for Maine's Chamberlain's leadership at Gettysburg, or count the dead of the First Minnesota, led by Red Wing's Colville, comprised mostly of recent European immigrants who had never, ever, ever owned slaves, most not even fluent in English, the language of the slaveholders. They died to make men free. Red Wing, at the head of fabulously beautiful Lake Pepin, which reminded more than one Norwegian immigrant of Tinsjoen, the actual lake of the events of February 20, 1944, the sinking of SF Hydro, which is why we don't speak German and salute the health of the national socialist leader by rote, because of the actions of a tiny bunch of cross-country skiers and rock climbers and sappers. Mama Winger, Desert Mouse, et al., back me up here.
There are many armed and accurate high power rifle shooters and suppliers of both parties-- the balance point in a discriminating ultimate conflict, i.e., one that bans germ or nuclear warfare, but one which we cannot rule out our enemy eschews-- so the enemy tries lawfare and rely on the media to suppress the facts until the noose is too tight on all.
Wisconsin could be pivotal. Urge your sniper friends there not to succumb to the Dark Side. Fuck like you mean it. Be a man. Be a woman. There should be no middle ground. Love your neighbor like yourself, and love the Lord God with all your heart and soul.

Guys like Cooch appear to think that there is still an argument to be had over the public acceptance of homosexuality. There isn't. There was an argument, past tense, years ago, which is over now. Will and Grace won that argument. Sorry, Cooch.

Yeah, but, every so often I had that AoSHq masthead feeling down in my bones, and I want to say "Hell Yes" to a good rant.

Glad to hear you are not at ground zero of the hipster experiment.

380 O/T: does anyone know the internals of all these latest polls showing Obama in the basement? I'm wondering if these polls are still over-polling Dems as per usual? Because, if they are... O's numbers must be much, much worse.
----------
Been wondering the same thing, A's Girl.
You have to figure, that CBS and CNN tried to skew their polls as much as they could.
And Barky still showed up in negative territory.

The union boys are counting on Federal courts to force Boeing to stay in Washington....
Frankly I'll invest the money I but Coca-Cola stock with in Boeing if they tell the union "fuck you there is no new contract see you"

The only real choice we see is who is going to deal with the aftermath. Ourselves or our children?

What's heartening about these polls, too, is that O's numbers are nearly equal to W's at this point in the presidency: W was attacked by the MSM 24/7 and O is propped up and defended by the MSM 24/7. It shows we are naturally a center-right nation and Americans can still think for themselves (amazingly) if they have to.

Buy some land near Charleston, they are going to expand there for sure.
Right to work baby!

Nope. OKC. Right to work, low taxes, a ready workforce, plenty of room to put their infrastructure, and just a hop, skip, and a jump from Wichita.

There was an article linked via Zero Hedge which had tables describing the degree to which so many American cities are financially boned.
Heading the list of "least amount of cash in the till" was Charleston, which had a whopping _zero_ days of cash on hand. The municipality really is living tax bill to tax bill, as it were. No reserves whatsoever.

Wow, just wow. And this is why he's a joke.
We're all RINO's and not pure enough and that's why we lose. Yep, that's why Romney 2012 did as well as Reagan 1980 among non-minorities and got railed. More cowbells is what we need!
This fucker and his ilk blabber on about purity so much you'd think he's a dirty hippy at Whole Foods buying organic humus.

That all these elections with Obama destroying the country, these people have been sitting by, saving their vote as if it's their virginity for the perfect man. So they've been hiding out since 1984? It's a conservative talk show fairytale.
If someone really sat out the election for Obama TWICE knowing he was a Marxist that could destroy the country, they aren't really "conservatives." At least no one I want on my side.
The country has changed demographically.

431 @08:04 More yep.
And he completely mischaracterized CAC's piece in order to squeeze it into his shopworn & obsessively divisive schtick starring his go-to GOP Establishment bogeyman.
He's not stupid enough to really believe the juvenile TrueCon v. Establishment smackdown fantasies he spoon feeds his audience nor to adhere himself to the ludicrous conservative litmus tests he insists others swear fealty to.
So, seriously, I wonder often these days if Levin's really playing for the other team. Mostly because I know if I were a committed left winger living in a consistently center right country, I'd probably think about trying to sneak behind enemy lines in disguise to pull off a divide & conquer move myself.
How else do you get your agenda & politicians across the finish line when you're an ideological minority unless you *do* render your opposition impotent by relentlessly pitting them against each other instead of you?
