#Caring: Kurt Schlichter's Message to Milennials
— Ace

Read the whole thing.

I have been told that being hard on you Millennials will turn you against conservatism, that I should offer you a positive, hopeful message that avoids the touchy problem of your manifest stupidity.

No. There’s no sugar-coating it – your votes for Democrats have ensured that you are the first generation in American history that will fail to exceed what their parents attained. Embracing liberalism was a stupid thing to do, done for the stupidest of reasons, and I will now let you subsidize my affluent lifestyle without a shred of guilt.

I’m a 48 year old trial lawyer living on the coast in California – I should have “Hope and Change” tattooed on my glutes. I’d have an excuse to be lib-curious, but you Millennials? Why do you support an ideology that pillages you to pay-off Democrat constituencies? Your time in the indoctrination factories of academia trained you in a form of “critical thinking” that is neither. Somehow, you came to embrace the bizarre notion that conservatives are psychotic Jesus freaks who want to Footloosisze America into a land of mandatory Sunday school and no dancing.

But liberals, in contrast, are nice. Obama is cool. You chose petty fascism with a smile. Not a lot of thought went into it. Facts, evidence – these were mere distractions from the feelings-based validation that came from rejecting us wicked conservatives.

What did you get? The chance to be forced to buy health insurance you don’t want at inflated rates so my rates can be lower. You get to pay more out of your monthly barista take – liberalism ensured that the tanked job market foreclosed a real career – so that I get to pay less out of my lawyer checks. Thanks, suckers.

...

Good plan. Now fetch my latte – I’m in a hurry to get to my corner office. And I’ll leave you a tip – next time you decide to vote for a liberal, first be born in 1964.

By the way, #caring is the hashtag Schlichter uses, constantly, to express... I'm not sure actually. He's either mocking liberals for falsely believing they #care so much, or he's expressing his own lack of #caring. Or both. Whatever it means, t's sarcastic and insulting.

I insult and impugn their intelligence. I take the time to tell them I dislike them and their blatant hypocrisy when they always bitch about compromise and getting along yet spout hateful shit all day. Then I end with a fuck you.

The snark would be so massive, it would fold in on itself and disrupt the space-time continuum.

15 What Kurt fails to realize is that he -- and we -- won't be reaping the benefits the "Millenials" voted for. This not being a zero-sum game, the regime will get to choose who it throws under the bus, and that should be an easy choice for them.

"You didn't want it? Fine. You don't get it."

Still, a remarkably tough stance for someone at clownhall to take.

As a fellow millennial (born in '8 I, for one, fear the day when my generation takes the reins of power. None had hard jobs growing up, were never forced to do anything hard by their parents, and they were spoiled by the leftist TV/Hollywood lie of "do this fun thing that you love and you'll make lots of money."

And now, as they get older, I see bitterness and resentment setting in. And it's aimed at the wrong target. Because they've been indoctrinated with "all evil is the fault of conservatives and all evil that befalls you is because of a conservative somewhere."

Sit back and watch. This ride is going to suck.

Am I in a parallel reality where Gen-Xers supported Reagan?  Every generation was more liberal when they had just got out of the liberal boot camp we call school.

Are we going to pretend the Great Society didn't put us in the hurt locker?  Social Security?  The Income Tax?  Who were the brainwaves who supported these programs?  They couldn't all have been millenials.

And let's remember in the 90s when we could have fixed everything with no problems, the response was 'kick the can' and watching TV.

Millenials aren't any stupider than any other group of young people in our history.

I was born in '82 and half of the people who write about that kinda crap always try to turn me into a millennial.  As far as I see it, I turned 18 before the millennium rolled over (in '01, not '00), so that makes me Gen X.  I remember Atari game consoles, the Commodore VIC-20, analog cellular phones (and even a time without cellphones), when popular music was still music (grunge counts, it had a melody and actual people playing instruments, at least), and when MTV played music.  I remember having Presidents that were worthy of respect, an America at its zenith, and a time when you could live without fear of your government.  I remember a world that still made sense.

Most of the millennial generation can't remember what a stable, safe, and happy society feels like.  Their formative years weren't Reagan/Bush, but Clinton and everything after.  Their world is one where America has always been dysfunctional, in decline and retreat, and where it's always been the bad guy.  Their reality was never two parents working to keep a comfortable roof over their kids' heads, but of divorces, apartments, and government "aid".

To a millennial, nothing is solid, nothing is forever, and nothing is guaranteed - except that government check.  They take what they can get now, and nuts to later.  That means going to every party you can, drinking all there is to drink, smoking all there is to smoke, and so on.

Meanwhile?  I'm just some guy who goes to work, and I end up paying for all of their fun.  Yeah.  I'm not a millennial.

150 IÂ’ll take my cheaper insurance, my future Social Security checks, and the other benefits that come from being established without guilt. 1) This is how I feel. I am financially secure, and was able to retire early due to my hard work, good education and career choice, and, of course, a little luck along the way. But, mostly hard work and sacrifice. I have no guilt. I am proud of my accomplishments, and rewarded, not just with financial stability, but, a self-worth, confidence, and integrity you cannot find without hard work. 2) Which is why it brings me to tears. I have nephews and nieces that, although brought up with the same value system, will find it much harder to reap the rewards of self-worth. Or, understand why America was/is so great. We are looking at the last of a generation that can take care of their own parents - and want to. Will there be a tectonic shift come election time? Is it sinking in? I'm an optimist, but, then I was raised to be so.

165 Most of the millennial generation can't remember what a stable, safe, and happy society feels like.

171 I was born in '82 and half of the people who write about that kinda crap always try to turn me into a millennial. As far as I see it, I turned 18 before the millennium rolled over (in '01, not '00), so that makes me Gen X. You're (techincally) a Millenial, if you're going by what has become the stadnard measuring stick, which is Strauss and Howe. See here: http://tinyurl.com/aavxmj But.... What makes you GEN X is your attitude. That matters more than anything else. So yeah, attitudinally, you're GEN X. Technically, I'm the last year of the baby Boom, but I've always considered myself GEN X (or what Strauss and Howe call "13ers') in temperament. ....mostly because I paid the price for the idiocy of Boomers.

174 138 Am I in a parallel reality where Gen-Xers supported Reagan? Every generation was more liberal when they had just got out of theliberal boot camp we call school. Considering the total bitch slapping Reagan gave both of his opponents (3 if you count Anderson) there were a whole hell of a lot of young people voting for him, myself included. You don't win 49 out of 50 states without broad across-the-generations support. You are correct about every generation becoming more liberal than the last, but since Reagan's days, the yoots have ramped it into hyperdrive.

Lemme clamber up on the Awesome Stepstool of Awesomeness and bitch that the reason why Millenials didn't have a physical labor job or any kind of job before college is because everyone was told that the only possible way for a child to succeed in life was to go to the best college possible and the only way to get into the best college possible was to meet the ludicrous admissions requirements that you show that you did something socially aware and justicey and thus instead of getting a job, kids were shuttled off to bullshit "charity" work and crammed into as many extra curricular activities as possible because gotta have that awesome CV dontcha know. 187 A major Democratic Party benefactor and Obama campaign bundler helped pay for professional petition circulators responsible for getting Virginia Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Robert C. Sarvis on the ballot — a move that could split conservative votes in a tight race. Campaign finance records show the Libertarian Booster PAC has made the largest independent contribution to Sarvis’ campaign, helping to pay for professional petition circulators who collected signatures necessary to get Sarvis’ name on Tuesday’s statewide ballot. Austin, Texas, software billionaire Joe Liemandt is the Libertarian Booster PAC’s major benefactor. He’s also a top bundler for President Barack Obama. This revelation comes as Virginia voters head to the polls Tuesday in an election where some observers say the third-party gubernatorial candidate could be a spoiler for Republican Ken Cuccinelli But of course

Posted by: CAC at November 05, 2013 10:53 AM (FHy6p)

I've mentioned this before, but   in my experience there are two types of    Millenials:   those who work hard and have genuine ambition and drive, and those who are the very embodiment of the    entitlement mentality.   There seems to be very little overlap between the two, though the latter likes to pretend they are part of the former group.

You can tell the difference easily:   the Good Millennials are the ones who, when they receive a bad score on a college exam or essay, ask the   instructor, "I don't understand what I did wrong.  Can you    explain?   I don't want to    get a bad grade on this again."

The Bad Millennials are the ones who will go to the instructor and say, "Why'd you give me an F!?  I never get Fs!   I'm getting As in every other class, you're the ONLY one that failed me!     I tried really hard!   This isn't fair!"

The Good Millennial recognizes that they EARNED their grade, and can improve    it through their own work.    The Bad Millennial   believes the instructor arbitrarily   GAVE THEM their grade, and that it's up to the    instructor to make it    better.

These    mindsets    have    been present in every generation to some extent,   but with the Millennials it's   more prevalent than ever before.  The lines between the two are much more   stark and vivid, and there's not a lot of criss-crossing from one   side to the other.

Rule 4. I am not paying for your health insurance. Buy a policy. Why.....cause contrary to what your professors will tell you, health insurance is not a right. Nor do you have a right to a car, cell phone, cable, lattes, gas, crap shirts from Ambercrombie or whatever the hell else you are entitled to along with a "living wage".

The guy whose code I periodically rip to shreds has two sons, ages 21 and 24, and he buys all that shit for them.  The younger is still in college (studying what, I don't know) and the other is "between jobs" (although as far as I can tell he hasn't had that first job yet) since graduating and refuses to even consider using his B.A. in English to take a "teach English in Asia" job just for something to do for a year, even though he's lived a couple of different Asian countries courtesy of his father's jobs and still has family in the Philippines.  I have zero respect for this guy, even when his code meets the requirements.

I  made some shitty choices when I was younger and lived in my sister's basement for six weeks, trading childcare and chores for room and board and stocking shelves at the local outlet mall for gas money to get to job interviews...and that sucked so much ass I took that first software contract offered, in the Milwaukee ghetto.  Which turned out to be a good job, loved the city, turned my life way around.  And then they elected SCOAMF, and I got laid off, and took a temporary job 800 miles away and slept on an air mattress, and eventually ended up in this "good job" in Indiana with "healthcare" but not enough vacation days to ever get to leave the state again after this Christmas and one day my boss is going to come in and find me hanging by the neck from an ethernet cable in the software lab, but hey, I'm not living in my sister's fucking basement.

Anyway, tldr, I really have no fucking sympathy for fucking millenials and their fucking Chipotle, whining that they might have to do something mildly unpleasant to keep themselves alive.

I printed that out back then and re-read it from time to time, and just did so again this morning. As a writer myself, I know how good it feels to know that something you've written has touched those who read it. So thank you. It was a fantastic piece filled with great advice.

227 The demographics of the election data are more troubling...it's facile to say that Millennials broke for Obama. White male Millennials (though the hipster types can be the most irritating subspecies) broke for Romney, but they didn't vote in large numbers nor do they comprise a large percentage of this cohort. All other Millennials broke for Obama by huge margins--what I've been calling the B-H-0-SB Grievance coalition, the most "discriminated against" of the population subset. Blacks voted 103% for Obama, while Hispanics and Orientals broke to Obama 80-20--these two groups are largely motivated by envy and by "recovered memories" of racism in school. SB (Stupid Bitches), which overlap, broke largely for Obama--being young, stupid women, they gravitate toward a strong, inspiring male figure (I know, I know). The good news is I don't think the Grievance Coalition will hold as strongly for Clinton in 16.

230 Too many young adults have swallowed the "good old days" revisionist account of how easy it was for their parents to get started out of school. Recessions recur regularly. Boom or Bust. Brats always blame someone else for their woes. Mental juveniles blame mommy and daddy. pfft. Ruin has been coming down the pike since Wilson. Authoritarianism is illegitimate. Take aim at the enemy target: authoritarianism in power. It isn't as if the younger generation was the only voting block that put Obama into office. Kurt Schlichter's scared of being labeled antisemitic if he were to point out that the liberal Jewish voting blocks in major metropolitan regions voted for "my name is blessed Barack". So they have voters remorse to the degree that their old comedians come out of the woodwork to chew on the insane liar in the Oval Office they elect/re-elect. The elephant in the room? The college youth vote '12 was with the GOP candidate Ron Paul.

Reality. You can talk yourself up, but guilding the lily is not appreciated. Depending on the school/program/major/scholarhip but in general you're looking for someone who has the capacity to succeed so, for me, I always looked for something that demonstrated excellent time management and prioritization skills. 'Cause for most of these kids, freshman year will Blow. Them. Away. No one has ever taught them that they are anything other that the specialest snowflake. So they're not used to the load...or having to perform....or...reality. Frosh year hits everyone hard, so I was always looking for the kid who had demonstrated that he/she had the baseline skills to survive once academic reality set in.

There could be no cover, gasoline prices soared, interest rates of 13%, our embassy in Tehran seized. Obama's moves are slow-motion, and include the positive feedback of a poisoned society.

================================

While I think you couldn't be more wrong, it really doesn't matter.

Instead what matters is that there shouldn't be any cover for TFG either, from Benghazi, from the IRS scandal, or from any one of the too numerous to recall assaults on the Constitution:   instead of covering the Presidency,  it's the constant pre-occupation of the national press to protect Obama.

The number of scandals is too big to count, and the danger our economy and alliances are in is unprecedently serious, and yet the press refuses to cover the issues and pundits simply choose  not  to write about the fraying of world relations.  They ignore all sorts of front page screaming headlines, and write about all kinds of minor but complimentary to Obama topics instead.

The press purposely does not inform, even though these problems are coming fast and furious (pun intended).

As far as the observation that millenials have never had physical labor jobs, that's true, but not as much for the reason that people think.  It's not that they're lazy by default, but we sent all the factories to China and imported all of our ditch diggers and builders from Mexico...  so there wasn't any place where these people could earn a decent wage while learning by trial and error how the working world actually works.

292 171 I was born in '82 and half of the people who write about that kinda crap always try to turn me into a millennial. --- I think I'm technically in the gap between Gen X and Millennials, being born in '80 and thus on the cusp of both. I certainly identify more with Gen X than Millennial. In my case, I guess having a sister who was a few years older and a family that was riding the leading edge of technology at the time (first computer at about 3, typing all my school papers by 10 because my handwriting sucked) meant that I was more aware of my surrounding younger than a lot of other people my age.

It's like with the people going into raptures over their  - quasi legal at best - cheap, pliable foreign labour and cheap China made products while in the next breath berating my generation for being lazy. The US could do okay - not optimally, not entirely morally, but okay - with its current socialist/corporatist "let's bribe people not to riot" model, if it hadn't imported people who can't handle it. Norway, and the Scandi countries, muddled through with something similar until they started to, uh, increase their diversity. Take the population that landed in Massachusetts - hell, take the pre 1965 population - and you'd be fine.

Also the only 'C'  I received in a college course was in Economics my sophomore year.   Douchebag professor had a rule  that if you were late to the class you could not stay.   One day I  had an emergency that made me a few minutes late after he had closed the door.   I  went  in  anyway in the back unnoticed by the class.    He  though  stopped his   lecture  and told me to leave.   I respectfully told him No.  I paid for the class and I was not leaving.  I guess it never happened to him before because he seemed like he wanted to say something but just continued the class.   I figured I screwed myself  and I did.

Seems to work for the leftists.  They bring their politics into literally everything, while simultaneously making the assumptions that 1) everyone there agrees with them because they are *right* and 2) that they have attained enlightenment and they must show it off so that others can see how erudite they are and want to spend time with such a sage.

Seems to work for them, who have infested the media and the schools, and not being happy with just projecting a message of leftist indoctrination, have to actively bully people into shutting up about it.

For every conservative that openly says something snarky and condescending to leftists, there are hundreds of conservatives who endure browbeating leftist nonsense every single day of their lives via the tyranny of the maliciously stupid and neurotically insecure.

So the left can suck it.

@324.  I get caught up by the condescension a lot too, because I'm not able to make it in the world that the older generations created.  I'm a part-time IT guy that only has shelter (that's not the back seat of the car) because of the generosity of a friend who was left a large house by his parents.  It was an uphill struggle for over a decade of retail hell in order to build up enough credentials to break into skilled labor, and I only just got here.

People think young people are lazy, but by and large, most young people didn't start lazy, they got that way because they were never given a chance to prove themselves and had to settle for what they could get, and eventually gave up because there was no way forward.  Given that all the factories were sent to China and all the blue collar work is now done at half the going rate by illegals, there never was a way for the average young person, the one that didn't go to college - to succeed.

You can't throw people into a job market where the only game in town is part time at Wal-Mart, then criticize them for never achieving anything more than scaping the bottom of the barrel.

All the conservative side of things seems to say in response is "Young people are lazy! People should work! Cut welfare!" Which might be fair enough, if they could get even half as het up over jobs being sent overseas, massive immigration/demographic change and corportatism. But nope, that might go after corporate interests and various ethnic groups might be unhaaaaapppy. Couldn't have that. Better go after earnest young white people.

You can stay silent - or actively collude with - importing workers and exporting jobs OR you can excoriate young people for being lazy. Where exactly can a teenager get a summer job? What exactly is out there for young graduates? What exactly is someone on the left hand side of the bell curve meant to do? 398 I've mentioned this before, but in my experience there are two types of Millenials: those who work hard and have genuine ambition and drive, and those who are the very embodiment of the entitlement mentality. There seems to be very little overlap between the two, though the latter likes to pretend they are part of the former group.

This has been my experience as well. Millenials either kick ass or are complete losers. I will tell you that the kick-ass ones really impress me.

There doesn't seem to be much in between. I think that will only exacerbate the income gap in this society, which, ironically will cause the losers to scream even louder for greater entitlements.

Deep breath. Stay calm.

You are fucking delusional. That's the best I can do.

Where I live, the waitressing jobs as well as the paper routes, are taken by Eastern Europeans. So are the high end boutiques. The Africans are taking the cleaning jobs. The Asians and Arabs are going into the fishing fleets, and the farmers will only take foreigners as labourers. The STEM jobs are going to H1-B visas. Graduate employment is in the doldrums, because middle management is disappearing and people can't afford to retire. Manufacturing jobs are gone. Things like gardening and construction are done by foreigners. There is no way in fucking hell that anyone, let alone in America, is paying their way through college. Your generation has comprehensively pulled the ladder up.

And before you start bitching about how we should just lay down and take the lower wages, longer hours etc., one question: WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE FREE MARKET? If employers can't get workers at the wages they're offering, they need to heed to market signals and (1) up their wages, (2) mechanize so they don't need as much labor or (3) go out of business. They don't get to bypass the market and import vast numbers of cheap, pliant workers - who, by the way, are being subsidized by the govt in the form of welfare, healthcare and getting their children educated at taxpayer expense.

So no, you don't get to accuse me of whining. Your generation has handed yet more power to the corporatist powers, but instead of tackling that, you prefer to turn to white people (I'd LOVE to see Schlichter trying similar rhetoric at, say, an African American townhall meeting) and bitch us out for being lazy.

I'm not saying that, say, conservatives and libertarians are in favor of corporatism. I'm saying, that for all practical purposes, it makes no difference. Instead, they like to be unconscionably rude to people who would be amenable to at least some parts of their message.

1) Upward cost pressures from government taxation and regulation, inflation due to monetary policy (for Fed influence)

2) Downward price pressures from consumer culture.  People want their shit to stay cheap.

3) Upward pressure to increase profit margin due to fiduciary responsibility to shareholders.

When costs go up, but price cannot go up with it, other costs must go down to compensate.  Historically, the most liquid cost is labor.  Reducing labor costs provide an immediate benefit to the bottom line, which is why layoffs ALWAYS happen when a company struggles.

The company has a choice:

a) Raise prices: this works for a while, but in a competitive market (and retail goods are cutthroat) you cannot raise prices without losing market share UNLESS you have a gimmick protected by patent.  And even then, consumers will reach a point where they can do without rather than pay your price.  This reduces demand.

b) Layoffs and restructuring: this doesn't really work either, because even though you save some money immediately through labor costs, you can't produce enough goods to maintain supply, and someone else's product takes the shelf space.

c) Outsourcing: take non-essential functions in the business, such as benefits management, and outsource them. Works great but is nibbling around the edges.  Does not address core problem - how to produce same or more at same price point with constantly increasing cost pressure?

d) Cheap Foreign Labor:  Ding ding ding.  This is the ONLY logical path.  You get cheap unskilled labor at pennies on the dollar.  Relocating facilities takes a hit, but labor is pennies on the dollar.  Even better if you can contract production and don't need to own the facility!  The creditors, the shareholders - both are happy and you've met your fiduciary responsibility, and the consumer is happy to get the good at the lower price point.  At least until quality deteriorates, and it will.  And the government gets it's high tax rates and compliance with regs.

But, by then, your move to use foreign sourced labor has alleviated the cost pressure still felt by your competition, so they need to match your move.

And the domino effect continues.

So, if you want one of these factors to remain the same - namely, the use of more expensive domestic labor - then some of the other factors need to change to compensate.

1) Consumers can willingly pay higher prices to keep workers employed.  As if.  Look at the migration of Wal-Mart from USA sourced to China sourced goods if you want to see how price is king, and sentiment ends up in a ditch.  In the meantime, the first adopter to rack up the price to where it needs to be goes under due to market pressures, and those people are unemployed anyway.

2) Shareholders can accept mediocrity in the balance sheet, or even experience losses.  Yeah, that doesn't work well.

3) American workers should expect to get paid less for menial work.  Hah.

OR (the only reasonable solution)

4) Government costs for taxation and compliance can be reduced.  Reduce the tax component that is passed on to consumers through cost.  Reduce compliance costs by simplifying or eliminating regulation.

The problem is that once the damage is done, and 3 generations of formerly-hardworking people have been put on the dole - do you get them to want to work even if the jobs come back?

418 This ain't some team sport where you cheer for "your guy" and winning or losing has no real material consequences. This is life, and if you choose badly things get ugly and personal real quick.

To take that thought one step further:  So many liberals  kneejerk reflexively  defend Owebama because he's their guy, is on their team.  You never hear them talk about America, what's best for her, or even defend her.

419 Why does #caring have to be sarcastic? Doesn't opposing socialism and educating people about it's flaws show that you care about society?

411Why Jobs Go To Foreigners

Jobs go to foreigners because the Fed prints USD.  Much of the newly printed cash goes to the Chinese who send us refrigerators in exchange and the heathens keep the USD (more fools them).

Put another way, if we were still on the gold standard we would not be able to carry on moving manufacturing overseas, because nobody has invented a gold-printing machine.

421 Let's be honest, most people are immature and kinda dumb when they're young. Well, at least I was. What was it Churchill said about being young and being a socialist?

These days, the kids don't have access to traditional mentors. The entire culture is leftist. I knew nothing about Reagan except that he was an actor in a movie with a chimpanzee. That was enough.

This insurance thing perhaps is waking them up. They are getting mugged early.

422 And I thought people had unkind things to say about the boomers. Schlicter's piece was just brutal.

423 Any screed that doesn't end by exhorting millennials to kill their liberal arts professors is just wasted bandwidth.

424 Schlichter was spot on! Too bad the millennials listened to their over-paid professors instead of their parents. Someone needed to slap em up side the head with the facts. #idontcare
