Change of Pace: Best. Prank. Ever.
— Ace

Seriously good.

Now, this is almost certainly an attempt at viral advertising for the reboot of Carrie. (Seriously? Was their a great clamoring for that?)

In fact the uploader is called "CarrieNYC," and I don't think that's a Sex & the City reference.

And yet... it's awesome. I think the reactions are real. I know that would be my own reaction.

Update: Well, I finally watched it all the way through. I guess the 20 second advertisement for Carrie at the end of the clip is a minor clue that this is in fact a viral ad for Carrie.

And yet... it remains Awesome.

Thanks to Chad.

Bonus: A lot of vaginally-oriented viral stuff here today. (Yeah, Carrie was totally vaginal, with the famous shower scene.)

Via @rdbrewer4, the producers of Once Upon a Time want you to really focus on Snow White's Magic Cooch.

63 I don't think it's "phony." I mean, the set up is phony, like any prank's set-up is phony. I think those are real reactions. I don't know why you'd have to fake those. If that happened, that would be your reaction. Posted by: ace Maybe "phony" wasn't the right word I was looking for. Of course prank by its very nature is phony. Wht I lamely was trying to say was that the prank did not exist in pure prank-space, where you fool people for the thrill of the game -- but instead it's just a very sophisticated advertisement, and it therefore exists not in prank-space but in ad-space. I therefore can't help but perceive it as an ad -- a brilliant ad -- and not really as a true prank. The surface effect of a prank is what we see. But the intent behind the prank is its meta-message. A particularly cruel prank can be a great "prank" but also be rightfully called bullying or hazing. And in this case, they're selling a product, not pranking for prank's sake.

68 >>>I don't quite understand the comments on this site about Brian Dennehy. What's the big deal? it's an in-joke that began because some people thought Brian Dennehy was in more movies than he was -- that is, any older, heavy-set actor was confused as being Brian Dennehy. So the in-joke began of claiming that Brian Dennehy stars in every single movie, including as things like The White House in Independence Day.

Doyle proclaimed that Houdini actually did it, actually went through something solid. Houdini said, no, it's a trick. Doyle argued that no, it's real, Houdini's mind fakes him out by going through the mechanics of the trick, but it's really Houdini passing through the solid object.

In Texas there is a town called New Braunfels, with a large German speaking population. One day, a local rancher driving down a country road noticed a man using his hand to drink water from a pond.  The rancher rolled down the window and shouted:  “Sehr angenehm!  Trink das Wasser nicht.  Die kuehe haben darein geschissen.”  (Which means:  “Glad to meet you!  DonÂ’t drink the water.  The cows have shit in it.)

The man shouted back:  “IÂ’m from New York and just down campaigning for ObamaÂ’s health care plan.  I canÂ’t understand you.  Please speak in English.”

The rancher replied:  “Use both hands!”

124 I love a story about Arthur Conan Doyle and Houdini. Doyle was one of those stupid spiritualists. Houdini did a stunt where he appears to slip through something solid and come out the other side. Doyle proclaimed that Houdini actually did it, actually went through something solid. Houdini said, no, it's a trick. Doyle argued that no, it's real, Houdini's mind fakes him out by going through the mechanics of the trick, but it's really Houdini passing through the solid object. Posted by: bonhomme That was actually VERY similar to one of my best pranks ever. Behold: I was friends with a guy who was an aeronautical engineer in Mountain View, who studied the shape of wings. I convinced him to give a lecture on the Cal campus about how heavier-than-air flight (i.e. airplane flight) is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. We put up flyers around campus for several days with somewhat vaguely misleading and more exciting description of what the lecture was to be about. Got a decent size audience of about a couple hundred. He went up on stage and used all sorts of gobblygook but real-sounding engineering verbiage, and wrote equations and diagrams on the blackboard. After 45 minutes he had conclusively proven that airplanes simply cannot fly. We then took questions from the audience and waited for the shoe to drop -- someone challenging his thesis -- at which point we were going to fess up that the whole thing was a joke. Guess what? Nobody challenged him. Ashen-faced, they started to file out. We said "Wait wait! There's one more thing you need to know. IT WAS ALL A LIE! And you should have know that because planes do in fact fly!!" And just as with Arthur Conan Doyle and Houdini, to my utter astonishment, most people remaining said "No, you were right all along -- flying is impossible. Your subsequent denial is the real lie!" We literally could not unconvince many of them Amazing.

128 In other news just read that Ashley Judd, famous actress, is on her way to her estranged race-car crashing husband in Houston (I think, am only typing this from quick read through. He could be in Walla Walla or Pago Pago).

Our heroine tweeted she was on her way to comfort and save him with just the clothes on her back and her dogs, all she needs. Husband, with a couple of cracked vertebra and broken ankle, tweets after reading her tweet: Help me!!11!! Get me out of here!

I can only imagine the drama of her coming to his aide in the hospital and applying cool cloths to his furrowed brow (while talking selfies of her and dogs...remember her cross country flight where the people in economy class irritated her with their clanking ice cubes? I think she had a poodle or a dog in first class. Or maybe that was her race-car estranged husband, Dario. Dario wishes he was not immobile and trapped in hospital, bless his heart).

177 Like, that dude isn't really slapping his kid in front of me - where's the hidden camera? I think watching TV has conditioned most of us to think we'd act in real life. You know that something is going to happen because of the camera angle, or music, or story structure point. You know the hero is going to do something, and you want to identify with the hero. But real life is 99.999% not at all like the movies. I've only seen random strangers fist-fighting a couple of times in my life. I've seen cars in flames, but only rarely. Even combat veterans who know they've acted bravely were in a situation where they knew they had to be aware and ready to act. I don't usually walk around in condition yellow because it's exhausting.

The kid with the gun gets shot. (Fake shot). Now the pranker is freaking out as the guy who just "shot" his fellow pranker is holding a gun on him. He explains it's a prank and the guy with the gun starts freaking out, why would you do that sort of thing? I just killed a guy and you were joking. Like that. 199 that prank is awesome if you can ignore the fact that every single person involved is an actor, and such bad actors that they can't even fake a natural reaction to seeing something like that IRL. That, and the fact the dumbass director/producer used (at least) 3 cameras and myriad angles so it's immediately obvious that this is a planned shoot on a soundstage, not in a real coffee shop, with cables and lights and crew all around. If this had been done "COPS-style" with hand-helds and grainy footage and no cuts between angles, it might have been worthwhile. As it is, it looks like the the shittiest attempt at a viral vid from a movie studio in... well a few months, anyway. They always get it wrong.
