Charlie Cook: This is One of the Most Dramatic Shifts on the Generic Ballot Question I've Ever Seen
— Ace

At Hot Air.

The Democratic numbers from the generic-ballot test dropped from 45 percent to 37 percent, and Republicans moved up to 40 percent. This 10-point net shift from a Democratic advantage of 7 points to a GOP edge of 3 points in just over a month is breathtaking, perhaps an unprecedented swing in such a short period. Occurring around Election Day, such a shift would probably amount to the difference between Democrats picking up at least 10 House seats, possibly even the 17 needed for a majority, and instead losing a half-dozen or so seats.

Look, I have to apologize. This was a post in draft from Friday. I am just not seeing any news I want to write about. It's a slow news day, which is something that I should just deal with (and post what there is of the slow news), but I keep looking for better and I'm not coming up with much.

So, for now, Open Thread.

8 But, Ace, it's all over Yahoo! that Pubbies should not get too excited about Obama's tiny little stumbles here and there--because the Pubbies are the biggest racist meanie pants in the galaxy, for totes realz.

9 If you think it's bad now, wait until this shitball picks up steam as it rolls down hill for the next 12 months. I predict people who were loving them some Obama, are going to be weeping and wailing and gnashing at the teeth.

10 From what I have seen those "generic" polls seldom produce the same result as the final polls when two actual candidates are involved.

I am not going to get too "excited" about this one.  There has been no great elimination of the FSA and the Republican leadership is doing everything in its power to drive the base away.

Samantha Scheibe, 27, called 911 in November, telling operators Zimmerman was brandishing a weapon during an argument at their Florida home. He was charged with felony aggravated assault but she now says she doesn't want to press charges, despite earlier detailing his intense depression and how she feared him. In a December 6 affidavit, filed in court by Zimmerman's attorney, Scheibe writes: 'When I was being questioned by police I felt very intimidated...I believe that the police misinterpreted me and that I may have misspoken about certain facts in my statement to police.' However, a 911 call has her clearly describing the gun-toting incident.

Meh -- I see no reason for optimism here.

the FSA will always come back to their savior. And the LIV will always let itself fall for the MSM portrayal of conservatives. Same for the "moderates" and people who are basically apolitical but vote because they feel some obligation to do so.

And if push really comes to shove the Democrats will just steal all the elections they need.

It might be different if there were more than a handful of conservatives holding federal office.

Face the facts -- the fat lady has sung. The last five years were just a taste of the rest of your life.

Twenty, maybe thirty years ago, our across the street neighbor, a veterinarian, would call his cat: "N*gg*r Mama!, N*gg*r Mama!" out across the neighborhood for his cat to come in for the evening.  Our town was lily white in those days and, of course, it was a different world.  My father, a barber, hired one of the few African Americans in town as a shoeshine man.  I denounce myself.

People keep acting as if he did people a favor for not slaughtering them. How would he have gotten the money he needed from western countries if he repeated what occurred in Rwanda only a few months earlier? Still, the murder rate in SA is horrendous and the vast majority is black on black.

Posted by: Tank the Frank at December 09, 2013 02:27 PM (W6iIX)

199 I'll use this opportunity to catch up on today's threads;

Obama and the IRS--the GOP let him off the hook. For about two weeks they had the administration by the short hairs, everybody (including Obama) agreed that what went on was unacceptable. If they had kept the pressure on, instead of relegating it to investigative committee limbo, and forced Obama to fire some people someone might have rolled over and given them the evidence they needed to run the bastard out of town on a rail.

Is it guaranteed someone would talk? No, but it is a lot more likely if people are seeing their careers end. And even if no one talks you still have the satisfaction of having forced Obama to fuck some of his own people for a change.

The inequality MacGuffin--there is no shame in using your opponent's rhetoric against him. If the GOP was worth a shit they would have been pointing out the growing income gap ever since he was elected, with an emphasis on the huge amount of corporate welfare his administration has engaged in.

One of the problems the GOP has right now is a realization among the base that no matter how good the speeches, the professional wing of the party has little or no interest in actually shrinking government. It would do the country a lot of good if the Dem base began to realize that the professional wing of their party has no interest in solving any of the issues they identify as problems.

Separate the Dem politicians from their base and we might be able to get the country working again.

I do know that once he was free he could have used his influence to help other political prisoners. The Cubans stuck in the dank sewer known as El Morro, for example. But he cuddled up with Castro instead. Mandela did do and say some good things, but he has a whole lot to answer for to the Man Upstairs. IMHO.

207 The scheme worked like this: clients would turn over their stocks to Chapman as collateral for a loan, and Chapman would let customers borrow about 90 percent of the stocks' value. If the stocks did badly, borrowers could walk away and keep the money they were loaned. But if the borrowers' stocks did well, they would repay the loan with interest, and Chapman was supposed to return the stocks to the investor at their increased value. Sounds dodgy.

My beloved toy poodle was named Artistic Liberty and we called her Libby.  She was the smartest dog I have ever known and the prettiest.  Her sire was the top toy poodle in the US at the time.  You could see her calculate the odds of getting away with something.  If she wanted it bad enough, like the Grande Aristocrat she was, she simply went for it.

219 >>If he was all that, how come he did not stop it? Bad things were happening on both sides. He sure as hell wasn't perfect but neither were the Afrikaners. He was by all accounts very vain and a serial adulterer. For a good portion of his imprisonment he was kept in pretty much isolation. He was allowed to send and receive one letter every 6 months and of course, they were read before he sent or received them so I really don't know how much he knew about what was being done by the ANC. And his wife turned into a true monster when he was in prison. The one thing that amazes me when I go to S. Africa is the respect he is given, not just by his supporters but by his previous enemies. He could have owned S. Africa when he was elected president, he could have been a Chavez or a Castro, but he did the hardest thing, asked that everyone forgive everyone else and try to move forward. Took his term and left. The country was ready to explode and he defused it. That was pretty remarkable in my book.
