— Ace He continues running against Republicans, which I suppose improves his chances for being reelected Governor, but does little to recommend him to me as a national spokesman for limited government.
"There is only one group to blame," Christie said. "The House Majority and John Boehner.""Last night, the House Majority failed the basic test of leadership and they did so with callous disregard to the people of my state," he said. "It was disappointing and disgusting to watch."
"Shame on you, shame on Congress."
Following his remarks, Christie doubled down on his criticism in a lengthy — and incredibly candid — press conference in which he laid into House Republicans for putting "palace intrigue" ahead of their actual jobs.
...
Asked who he thought was responsible on the holdup over Sandy aid, Christie laid the blame entirely on Boehner.
"It was the Speaker's decision — his alone," Christie said, adding that he tried to reach Boehner four times, but that the Speaker did not take his calls until this morning."
Meanwhile Peter King tells people not to donate to the NRCC or Republicans, and of course half of the "Sandy Spending" is pork for entirely unrelated matters, like Alaskan fisheries. Which is what happens-- when you have an attractively-named spending bill, something people will only vote against with great trepidation, you lard it up with all the spending you couldn't possibly get otherwise.
At this point I've stopped worrying about the epochal financial crisis and simply accepted it, and have begun just looking for the silver lining: Well, they'll finally reap what they've long sown.
Notice it's always those who attempt to get pork stripped out who are charged with "holding things up," even by nominal Republicans. They never lay the blame with those who have stuck unrelated spending items in the bill for holding it up. Those people are "just doing what needs to be done."

The ONLY argument that proponents of these "relief" bills have ever put forward other than "because shut up" is "Well, they can't afford to rebuild on their own!" (which is largely hokum). Well, given the density of lawyers, Wall St. types, and so forth, I can't imagine that the same is true for NYC/NJ.

1. the Jim Demints -- these Republicans vote consistently with conservative principles
2. the Scott Browns -- these Republicans vote mostly for personal political expediency and only use the party's brand for recognition and logistical and financial support.
3. and the Chris Christies -- these are the worst type of Republicans -- they vote and govern like the Scott Browns, but unlike the Scott Browns the Chris Christies will openly denigrate other Republicans with no regard whatsoever for the party's brand

I sympathize in general with the folks of NY/NJ. I spent a few years there working on IT projects and my takeaway was the breathtaking amounts of cynicism that those folks have regarding corruption and pork. Their blase attitude that flyover country exists just to grow food for NYC and to send in Federal taxes to pay for NY/NJ infrastructure was hard to take. Their ignorance about the rest of the country is real--if it is not NY/NJ, it does not matter. I had a chiropractor, which means the guy was a college graduate at the very least, ask me if Oklahoma had paved roads and real houses--not tents and teepees. He was serious.
I have not contributed one dime to Hurricane Sandy relief because the Feds will more than bail them out and make them whole--they will make them better than whole. My tax dollars are enough to give them.

One of the Civil War Generals, I can't remember who, was the commander of a subordinate unit, perhaps a regiment, and quartermaster for the superior formation, perhaps the brigade. As regimental commander he would seek the finest equipment for his own regiment and as quartermaster he would deny his own request because he had to consider the good of the entire brigade. Maybe Christie is playing such Jedi mind tricks on himself.

Honestly, when you know you're going to declare bankrupcy and run out on the bill, why not max it out? Why even bother to cut spending now when it's most certainly too late to ever climb out?
Sort of like when I was a teen - if I was supposed to be home by 11:00 and it was already 12:30, I'd just stay out till 6AM. If you're going to get your ass beat either way, might as well make the most of it.

What kind of stupid, ignorant ass would build a half-million dollar plus home or business on a "barrier island".
What part of fucking "barrier" don't you get?
Adding insult to blatant stupidity...these two states have huge spending problems. But they collected tax money from those "barrier island" idiots all these years.
Yet they need someone else's money to bail them out because...?
I am a little confused how these states reap all the benefits of letting idiots live in place they know are doomed, in the interim reaping all the benefits- then when the inevitable happens WE are all heartless.
What the fuck kind of contra-intellectual, specious, appeals to emotion instead of logic is that?
These people are liberals and they don't even know it...

Let's see, we stand on the edge of collapse, we have a dictator in the White House, and now a porculent pussy from a state long known for hoagies and .25 caliber assassinations by greasy assed Sicilians wants to chew into another pussy that would quail at the thought of actually having testicles.
Oh, and we're facing open warfare in the next 90 days.
The pretext will be guns, of course, though that's not what it will be about. Doesn't matter what the Congress does, if they're still capable of anything. King Barry will do it all by Executive Order. Just look at his arrogance. Look at his autocratism. Look at this demeanor.
Finally, look at his intelligence.
Those who study history sometimes are still doomed to repeat it.

Arrrrghhhh!
Is it just me, or does it seem like only Republicans savage their own party? Oh, Bill Clinton might throw a stinger in once in a great while, but it seems as though Democrats uniformly save their vitriol and criticism for Republicans, while there are always some heroic "maverick" R's who are quite willing to grab a megaphone and trash their own guys. Funny, that.

Mr. Christy, you embraced President Obama, so I am certain he will return early to tend to your needs, after all, he did say, "no red tape." Perhaps you should switch parties at this point.( I notice you are not outraged at this padded bill, which states volumes.) John Boehner has been everyone's whipping boy, and you could hardly contain yourself to join the disparaging, demanding mob. All in all, it appears you just do not have enough influence in your own party to get things done. How disappointing it must be for the Sandy victims.

But I think you build momentum at the state level - BTW we're not doing too badly there - and then those governors will be pressuring the GOP "elite" for some common sense conservatism. What we need is the party infrastructure, what we don't need is the people who are currently running the infrastructure.

I think almost all of the problem we "trucons" have against the GOP is in action. That is, they say the right things (more or less) on the campaign trail, and then fail to stand up for those things once they're in office.
All I really want is actual adherence to the conservative principles of the party, and a willingness to "be the bad guy" when necessary. If you're the only one who ever flinches, the other guy's favored contest is going to be playing Chicken. Sometimes, you have to be willing to take the crash. Eventually, they'll get the point, and we'll be able to make some progress.
So I don't know that we need to massively remake the party platform or anything like that. We do need to make sure those at the local level live up to their promises and start moving that type of accountability up the chain.

THIS is what gnaws at me. Blast the representatives for not getting it done if you feel you have to do it to maintain political viability. He is the Governor of NJ. But at least take the opportunity to add in a few shots at Democrats who have taken advantage of a national humanitarian crisis to lard up the bill with pure pork and thus prevent prompt action, etc., etc. He is also supposed to be a member of the Republican party.

Election board first. It is literally where all power starts. If your elections are fairly adjudicated, then Republicans win on ideas. The GOP lets the DIMs count the votes and they wonder why they lose--especially on recounts of Federal elections. Corrupt election boards let votes be found until the DIM wins. When was the last time a GOP candidate won a national level recount?

For one thing, a whole heck of a lot of people thought Christie was going to be the second coming of Reagan. So... at least he's not alone there.
For another, it's not like we knew that Christie was just using the Republican party so he would have an easier primary. If Christie's fellating TFG just before the election didn't make it clear enough, I think this demonstrates that Christie is reflexively antagonistic toward Republicans.
I haven't seen Ace singing Christie's praises for quite a while, now.

Rule of thumb:
If William Kristol is pushing him/it, it's probably bad for limited government. (Note, this does not mean that the converse of this rule is necessarily true.)
The Chris Christie honeymoon was an excellent example of what cheap dates Republicans are: a few youtube videos and he's suddenly a tough-talking, limited government hero. Nevermind his actual record.
