— Ace Later on today, there will be video from Hagel's hearings. Right now as I type this Lindsey Graham is brutalizing him ( on CSPAN, the main one).
As this will be recapped in an hour or three, I won't bother now.
Brit Hume made a simple but deadly observation about Hagel's performance -- "he's just not very bright."
And he's not. While the media is intensely interested in the intellectual capacity of any Republican (unless that Republican is obviously intelligent, in which case they don't mention IQ at all), they never discuss the intelligence of the dimmer-bulb Democrats or Republicans like Hagel, who can be counted as allies.
Hagel's dumb. He's just not smart enough to be Secretary of Defense. Our troops deserve a bright man who understands complex systems and has the intellectual curiosity to discover what he doesn't know. Not a bumbling dummy whose deepest thoughts are about the "Jewish lobby."
Brief Clip: Alas this is just a short one. But this basic sort of thing went on for ten minutes. It's a cumulative thing. Seeing someone stumble and bumble for 90 seconds is no big deal; but ten minutes of stumbling and bumbling looks dumb.
Longer Clip:

NBC pulled their live feed from the webpage during Grahm's questioning. It was still visable on the front page as happening, but you got "This event has ended" when you clicked it (when clearly it hasn't.)
Crazy edits, not covering the Menendez scandle (although writing an article that he paid the doctor back?!) and now this? It's like a trifecta week for them.

It's the optics of a Republican nominee, and Hagel's expected blind obedience to Obama's anti-Western behavior.
And if Hagel isn't confirmed, Obama will use it as an example of Republican intransigence.

I am just curious. Will Someone ask Hagel if he will continue to pursue the effective Obama policies that have kept Al Qaeda on the "run", secured North Africa, effectively wound down the war in Afghanistan, established democracy in the Middle East and cemented bonds with our closest allies?

Long silence as everyone looks at Hagel. His eyes dart left then right and he sees all these faces looking back at him with curiosity in some and disgust in others. The silence stretches as sweat pops out on Hagel's forehead. And then he leaps up and runs for the back of the room.
His last words are heard to echo down the corridors, "They hate me! They really hate me!"

Picking Hagel exemplifies why the neo-nazi types found Obama to be, while not preferable, acceptable to begin with: They percieved Obama to be anti-Israel and by extension anti-Jew. In that respect they were correct.

Intelligence is very reliably is apparent in the eyes of anyone in gifted with it. You may not be able to scale it in a quantifiable manner, but you know it when you see it, the same way that drugged or drunken stupor can't be concealed.
In Hagel's case there has never been ANY evidence of mental acuity beyond the level of finger counting and curse words.

I was not familiar with Keri Russell, but she is intense.
She was very good on Felicity, until that show devolved into another snoozefest of leftist pablum regurgitated for the masses. So basically the first season.

Bio-diesel bought at $16/gallon. That was 'smart' right there. But the company had connections to TFG. So that made it okay.

This is a win-win-win for Obama.
If Hagel is confirmed, and the military is dismantled, Obama gets what he wants and can blame a mean-spirited Republican.
If Hagel does poorly in his hearings and doesn't get confirmed somehow (the "somehow" refers to not getting confirmed, he's obviously doing badly in the hearings), Obama can blame a dumb Republican (Hagel) and a mean-spirited Republican (take your pick, McCain or Graham).
In fact, given the liberal tendency to salivate every time they get the opportunity to label a Republican either dumb or mean-spirited, these Hagel hearings are almost ideal.

Carney dodged the question this way: ‘I think our views on the last presidential election were clearly expressed, the president’s views on that matter and our views on the behavior of the regime in Tehran are expressed again and again and again.’”

Iranian government elected - yes, it's true. But we have to get past the notion that somehow an election makes a government representative or somehow friendly to US interests. Lord knows we've got problems enough with that issue ourselves. The fact is that there are people on this planet who would cheerfully elect a government inimical to US interests, and we should be prepared to exterminate an adversarial democracy as aggressively as, perhaps even more aggressively than, we'd flatten a totalitarian state.

I believe it's the legitimacy of those elections that are in question. Given Bammy's dismissal of the Green Revolution, it's clear he doesn't care one way or the other.

This is going to happen. The RDT&E and Procurement accounts are going to be raped - and to quote Joe Biden "literally" raped - in FY14 and FY 15.
As a matter of fact, it's going to start to some extent this year due to the peculiarities of operating under a Continuing Resolution based (effectively) on FY 10 until April 27 - but operating with a FY13 authorization now.
You're going to see massive layoffs very soon.

I think he was permanently and terribly scarred by Viet Nam. His feeling, deep down, is that he was betrayed by the officers and civilian command, and he has never gotten over it.
Because of this, he will never, ever sign on to war. He identifies too much with the enlisted men, which is admirable, but is something that would handicap him as Defense Secretary.

I heard McCain go after Hagel. He was brutal and effective. Same with Graham. my question is - why can't these senators go after the grossly and criminally incompetent Hillary Clinton or after the treasonous John Kerry with the same fervor? Hmmmmm?
Or are they afraid the media won't say nice things about them?
