Here in Colorado we just passed (and the governor signed) draconian gun control measures so now the legislature has taken up outlawing capital punishment. Punish the innocent and protect the guilty is always the battlecry of the progressive. They want to insure that if there is another Columbine of Dark Knight type incident, the victims will be unarmed and the perpetrator will need not fear execution.

55 Well, apart from the "underfunded schools" thing. That's like saying Charlie Sheen doesn't have enough drugs. Public schools are rolling in so much dough the only thing they can't do is teach. Also, you can't really argue with liberals based on their stated reasons for doing a thing, because that reason is almost always a lie. They, especially the peons, may *believe* it, but showing that it doesn't make sense (why do you disarm only people who obey the law) rarely works because it's a "talking point," not the actual reason they're doing it.

Yes, they get extra points if they lob the gallon of milk into the cold case destroying other gallons of milk.  Some stores have had to post "guards" in their dairy aisles because of these yutes.  The goal of the "game" is to shut down the dairy aisle by causing as much wet mess as possible.  One wonders at what point the mischief becomes a felony.

See GOP, this is how you do it.  You frigging idiots.

and yeah Flatbush Joe, I agree 100%.  I like Portman but his "rationale" behind supporting gay marriage is very bad.

I was a bigot before my son brought home a black girl.  What??????????

Either bigotry makes sense or it doesn't.  Either opposition makes sense or it doesn't.

Gay marriage is an impossibility.  And I'm against it.

Now if we want to talk about civil unions/property rights, etc., that's all on the table and a very lengthy discussion can be had.  But marriage is the union of man and woman to produce a child of that line.  That IS IMPOSSIBLE with two human beings of the same sex.

Next question.

Yeah, that "underfunded  school" line made me tune out the rest of whatever he said. If he can't get that simple factoid right,  what are the odds of him getting anything right?

We've been shoveling money into the school system  for years and getting  less in return  for  it. If he really wants to get to the root of  inner city poverty, he should start by pointing out that they're run almost exclusively by Dims. Use Chicago as an  example.

Sticky Wicket I expect some countries to walk. But Greece I think is too addicted to the easy money even if the Nigerian ponzi schemers offer to clear their bad credit card debt for $1 on a million Euros.

The EU's fatal flaw....they would have to accept economically disadvantaged countries...and put in place rules they thought would lead those members to prosperity in the long term....based on the economic strength of the association's core members. In the short term, they knew they would be loaning these countries metric butt tons of money. Prosperity didn't happen, and is unlikely to ever happen. The EU is holding the note on a heavily leveraged mountain of shit, and if countries start slipping away, the Euro collapses. And hell, Cyprus wasn't even part of PIIGS....other than peripherally through Greece.

They can't afford to loan these countries any more money. They have to loan them money. They have to demand payment on loans already made. They can't demand payment on loans made. Germany is pretty much tapped out....I think if Merkel even hints at loaning out another hundred billion or so, her hide will soon be decorating a lamp post. Like all Ponzi schemes, it's run into the inevitable, and predictable brick wall.

My biggest worry is that they'll soon be shopping around for an economy large enough to chip in a trillion or so....you know, just til they get back on their feet.

188 Oh that Colion Noir, he's so dreamy!!!!! Seriously, you guys, admit it: he's a good looking guy. And if you had to do one, he would be purrrrfect. I'm man enough to admit it, too. [don't shoot me!]

190 I have no clue who he voted for.  Someone upthread said he thought he voted for the JEF twice.  Accepting the class warfare theme of Jeremiah Wright does not make me love him

193

his quote, and its a good one

Considering the history the black community has had with this country, and itÂ’s government, you think that itÂ’s a good idea to argue against the second amendment? You want us to wholly depend on the government for our safety, this same government who at one point hosed us down with water, attacked us with dogs Â… and told us we couldnÂ’t own guns when bumbling fools with sheets on their heads were riding around, burning crosses in our yards, and murdering us. This makes sense to you? In my mind a guy telling me to get rid of my guns, when I need them the most, isnÂ’t my friend, isnÂ’t looking out for my best interest, and doesnÂ’t speak for me or the community that IÂ’m part of Â… ItÂ’s not a gun problem, itÂ’s not even a violence problem. ItÂ’s a culture problem. ItÂ’s a poverty problem. ItÂ’s a history problem.

he is an interesting guy

195 It's pretty cool that his last name means "black" in French.  Wonder if he has a creole background?

197 I've watched quite a few of his videos on You Tube and they're pretty good (liked the one about bringing someone to the range on a first date and how wrong it can go). He said something in this video that I think is really important, mostly because I've said almost the same thing who knows how many times. He didn't quite say it the same way though. If you look at the inner city where there is lots of crime and total gun bans, what manly examples does a little boy have? Who's tough? Who's strong? Who demands respect? Who's the fighter? Who's the warrior? Disarming law abiding men (and yes, I'm going to say men here, not women) takes away the OTHER possible manly, tough-guy role... no sheepdogs allowed. The macho image of the strong protector as a role model is gone completely leaving only the image of the strong predator. Gun ownership bans such as those that exist in large cities treat all adult men as threats instead of forces for good in the community. Every now and then a group of black men will try to do something different than this and form manly groups of protectors (likely connected to Islam) and they're not wrong... not about that, at least, though it's hard to be a neighborhood watch when you're prevented by law from protecting your own home and family. Unless you decide to be a criminal.

198 The progressive answer is, of course, that it's wrong for boys to idolize machismo, being tough, or being a warrior.

199 There was an article this last week posted a link from somewhere or other I hang out about a liberal who was part of the gun culture and in the article he explained that these guys, when they carried a gun, felt important, felt like they were the hero, and that it gave them a sense of self worth to be in that (potentially) protective role when they were concealed carrying. The comments were predictably horrified at the mere notion that any man would want to feel good about himself.
