Coming Soon: The 27-Inch Table-top Tablet
— Ace

I only post this for one reason: the role-playing game possibilities.

I mean, that's the important thing.

Yes, for only $1700, you can have a tablet that projects the image of high-definition terrain that you can move your lead miniatures around over. And you can swap out one map for another in two seconds.

Of course 27 inches is too small for a big battlefield. That's wouldn't be a but a dungeon room or three.

But soon they'll do a 50 inch one, and then, we'll be all set.

For now, they're planning air-hockey games (with little shunts to block the virtual puck with) and some kind of tactical shooting game. I guess boardgames like Monopoly and Risk can be easily ported over, though I don't now if I see the big advantage.

2 Ace,

The Microsoft Pixel Sense (with a DnD emulator) would like to say hello to you. (Sadly I've never been able to play with one in person.)
It even had "mini-cameras" (for lack of a better term) in the screen that could read bar codes on the bottom of miniatures and ID them to show rules/spells/etc.

Marriage proposal of the day...

I was inspired by a lurker's failed attempt to woo AtC in a comment thread last week, so I figured I'd give it a try. A heretofore unknown lurker (circa '06) will now cold-propose to three different 'ettes at the same time!

What could possibly go wrong?

I've narrowed my bride list down to the following, sorted alphabetically:

Anna Puma

Miss80sBaby

MWR

Ladies, you are my soul mate.

A little bit about myself:

- ~30 years old

- stable, professional job @ ~$70k/year gross

- Christian (non-Catholic)

- short, very thin, a bit on the handsome side of the scale

- non-smoker, non-drinker

- do not own a tarantula or other pets

MARRIAGE PROPOSAL: NO

As for the rest of Teh Horde, please let the women listed above know about this offer if you see them in future threads. I apologize for going off-topic.

I thought the whole idea of a 'tablet'...was to have something that is toteable.

You know...small...easy to carry around.

One of the big selling points (at least that I got out of it) was  that the family could gather round it instead of being off  doing their own thing.

So there's that. Air Hockey sounds  like fun, Monopoly would definitely be  cool, as would just about any board game. You could really spice up the graphics  and the sound.

Hmm,  Sexual Trivial Pursuit, anyone?  Twister?

78 Funny you should do a post about this, Ace. I'm writing this from upstairs in the Aquanox restaurant in the Venetian where Lenovo is taking over for a few days to let press people see the stuff up close and be enticed with really good food. Since our NOC is in a storage area upstairs we've dubbed it the AquaNOC.

Some of my co-workers are over at the Wynn right now doing the network for Showstoppers, a big press eat and meet event.

In case anyone was wondering, the table setup on Hawaii 5-0 is a Microsoft Surface. It's real, even if some of the software is a bit fanciful on the show. Much as shows like Buffy were set in a universe where nearly everyone had an Apple laptop, the TV Hawaii is a place where Windows Phone is hugely overpresent compared to reality.
