Perhaps a malfunction in computer software? Or one of those things from the sun the conspiracy sites are so afraid of?
San Francisco had no power last night per tons of angry people on their phones on twitter and there "was no apparent reason" for the no power which made them angrier.

FORTUNE -- New Jersey senatorial candidate Cory Booker was "not involved at all" in the addition of Andrew Zucker to the advisory board of a tech startup that Booker co-founded, according to a company spokesperson. And now it may not much matter, as the 15 year-old has resigned from the board -- effective as of earlier this afternoon.
Zucker is the son of CNN president Jeff Zucker, and his arrangement with Booker's venture was viewed in some quarters as being inappropriate.

My husband is struggling with trying to figure out how to deal with a 56% increase in health insurance costs, and continuing to cover his employees.
Even if he stops their coverage and they have to go to exchanges, our company Coventry, here in GA, is leaving the exchanges. Who knows what they'll end up with.
Also, our family healthcare for the two of us will be through the roof.
Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Oh, quel surprise:
at least some of Republicans conceded the president did the right thing in making sure they and their staff wouldnÂ’t lose their health care subsidies under the law.
“There’s no question it was the right thing to do,” said freshmen Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah. “Not just for me, but for my staff. Heavens, I have staff who don’t make much money. This would be a really big bite for them.”
Another Republican congressman described the White House’s intervention as a “relief,” as one aide in his office made around just $30,000 a year and had a child with many health issues. The member wanted to remain anonymous in sensitivity to his staffer’s privacy. “I don’t know what she would have done,” he said.
“They would have been demanding some pay raises and those kind of things to take care of that,” Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., acknowledged. But he still blasted the decision as one carved out an exception and said the Affordable Care Act should instead be repealed for everyone.
When asked if he would have been able to raise his staffers’ pay to help offset the cost of insurance on the new exchanges, Huelskamp said, “I haven’t thought that far about what we could do. … It would have been an interesting question.”

Oh, and re: cell blackout in Boston: it is a test. It is all a test until mayday, when we won't know it is the real enchilada because we can't communicate except by smoke signals. Such things will be dealt with and flat out prohibited in the post-collapse reformation's new constitution.
There will likely be a bunch of "can't ever be amended out, ever" bedrock principles to head off all the trickery we've seen over the years.
This exemption shit is one.
Legislatures voting themselves pay hikes is another. Want a pay hike? Fine, but it won't kick in unless approved by the electorate as a nationwide referendum item in the 2nd national election cycle after its passage. Any attempts to stackup and pipeline pay hikes resets the 4-cycle clock and voids all earlier pay hikes.

1. You can get EBT cards without much questioning.
2. You can pick up staples at various church food pantries, since churches do not ask many questions. (Miss Marple works at one and notices the expensive tattoos and piercings on some clients. Others are truly in need, so I bite my tongue.)
3. You can sell stuff you get at Food pantries.
4. You can eat free at various church places who are offering free pancake breakfasts or spaghetti dinners.
5. You can get help for utilities through the utility companies and certain church agencies.
6. Your kids can eat free breakfast and lunch at school. In the summer they can eat free lunch at various schools.
With a little creativity and Section 8 housing, you can live pretty well on welfare. You cannot accumulate much in a savings account, but you can buy jewelry or silver flatware and store it and the government won't know.

I can only tell you what I think I have figured out at least on a national basis - most of the repubs and dems are the same party just pretending to oppose each other but always growing govt. and their power.
Yes there are exceptions, but even when you think you have found some (ahem, Rubio, Ryan) you get greatly disappointed.
I will no longer vote in federal elections, local only.

got laid off in Dec '12. Employer offered to continue my health care coverage for about $1200 a month. A MONTH. I declined.
Subsequently I went shopping around for bare bones coverage. Just let me go to the doctor when I'm sick, the ER when I'm hurt, and the dentist when I'm in pain.
3 insurance providers have denied me so far.

an anecdote, to illustrate what is to come:
My wife's boss, years ago, went heli-skiing in British Columbia. He crashed hard, wrecking his left leg. He was flown to a hospital in Vancouver, laid on a gurney, pushed into the ER. He lay there for at least ten hours, no pain killers (aside from what the medevac guys gave him), ignored until a visiting surgeon from Kenya saw him and took care of things. I think this surgeon's diplomatic status greased the wheels, and my wife's boss is ambulatory now, although his heli-skiing days are long over.
I'm a wee bit pessimistic about things right now.

When Trudeau was PM, he shipped his mom to south FL for heart surgery rather than have her cut on in Canada. One of my flying buddies, who was one of the country's premier vascular surgeons before he retired, did the work...
...and then Trudeau tried to stiff the bill, until my friend threatened to notify the Canadian press. He got a check the next day.

And it is true. I kknow people are gaming our food pantry somewhat, but there are so many people who are truly in need, that I just let it go. You might know it, but you can't prove it.

My doc had merged with the hospital last summer, so when I went in I found out that the hospital had me down for a cardiac cath and a by-pass, neither of which I have had.
No wonder the underwriter at anthem treated me like a criminal when I applied.
I am contemplating suing the hospital for 3 years of having to pay cash for everything.

I know, right? We get it, why can't others? Having a continental railroad helped the cowboys and Indians celebrate the first Thanksgiving in Nevada in 1620 just as Pancho Villa was settling Las Vegas where he opened the Sands Hotel and Casino in 1622.

My thinking on this is that I will get a doc when others won't, because they know they will get the full fee from me.
Also, those who are going on Medicare: it is very confusing because every insurance company in the country sends you information and applications. I am a graduate in geology, but could not make sense of it.
I went to a financial adviser who had studied all of this and could explain it to me. It wasn't that expensive, and was well worth the money.

Hearing Oprah lament that he only turned it down because Fox news would have gone on about it was pretty depressing too. I mean a sitting President making a cameo appearance in a movie is totally in keeping with the seriousness and dignity of the office. We are a few election cycles away from President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.

Obama pulled a fast one. He does not have authority to do this. Yet Congress does not respond. If Obamacare is defunded and repealed this goes away also. If not then don't know what happens to this in particular.
Not defending Congress but Obama did this. And although they are undoubtedly thrilled with it this is not the end. Lots of phone calling etc.

I quote:"Under Obamacare, lawmakers and staff "must purchase plans on the exchanges for coverage," but the*** law did not allow*** for the federal government to subsidize the new insurance plans, as lawmakers wanted Congressmen and their aides to play by the same rules as their constituents. Lawmakers. though, feared aides would leave Congress because individuals and families would be forced to pay $5,500 and $11,000 more, respectively, for unsubsidized insurance on the government exchanges".
(You mean like me? Little old me, who is just an average American with a family of 7? Huh. Funny how that shit worked for me. Some pigs aren't as equal as others cause my premium went from 5k to 10k and I didn't get to keep my doc, or my health insurance and I ain't gettin' more for more.. What a fucking surprise. NOT.)
