Conservatives May Take Australia's Elections After Unpopularity and Scheming of Labour Regime
— Ace

When I say conservatives I mean Liberals. Australia's right-leaning party is called the Liberal Party.

The unpopular Kevin Rudd was deposed in a palace coup a couple of years ago by his deputy Julia Gillard. Now that she's also unpopular, he's mounted a coup against her, and now he's Prime Minister again. But still unpopular.

Australia now has the chance – should it wish to take it – of joining Canada in leading the Conservative fightback in what remains of the free West. Tony Abbott's Liberals (that's Australian for Conservatives) look set to win an outright majority, without having to do any of the grotesque horsetrading with the Greens (which have been one of the more noisome and damaging aspects of Gillard's vile, principle-free Coalition).

This Australian blogger gets into the details of the situation and the coup.

27 I hope Australia also rolls back those insane carbon laws. I think it will take just one bold move by a major country and it will be a jailbreak. The problem is, so many countries are trying to do away with their carbon laws on the sly, or by non-enforcement. But it just takes one to stand up to the bully, and the others should rally.

78 In Australia, the term Liberalism refers to centre-right economic liberalism. Party ideology has therefore been referred to as Liberalism, distinct from its meaning in some countries, but also as conservatism, which features strongly in party ideology. There have however long been party members who practice economic or classical liberalism without features of social conservatism, often referred to as 'small-l liberals'.[1]

The fact that your appeals have ended is usually a clue. Japanese prisons are very tough, or so I have read. They expect you to act ashamed for what you did and the guards are always slapping people around for not acting subservient to them.

155 If we delve back to the Queensland, Australia elections back in early 2012, we see that the Labor Party, which pushed and was the guiding force in passing the cap and tax "climate change" laws and was the dominant and ruling party, was defeated so badly that they didn't have enough seats left to be considered a recognized political party in Queensland.

And the whole loss was based on the "climate change" legislation and the resulting laws and free speech infringements.

If Labor loses it will primarily be based on the same issue: "climate change" legislation.

IMHO, lethal injection is a namby-pamby way of doing what has to be done. We aren't killing these creeps to put them out of their misery, like we do with a beloved pet that is suffering from a terminal illness. We are killing them to put them out of ourmisery, and the right way to do that is to make it quick but violent death. China has the right idea, a bullet to the back of the head. Where their system falls down is the lack of due process.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 26, 2013 05:51 PM (fNpC1)

161 I would feel better about this if Tony Abbott hadn't spent his time waiting for power making statements that show he'll simply be a relatively right-wing liberal, and all for mass immigration, which means eventual defeat on every issue. As for gun rights, forget it; it was Howard and the Liberals that effectively wiped out gun culture in Australia in the first place. As in America, when the left attacks a right but the right defends it, you can keep struggling, but when the right wing politicians sell out the game is over.

164 As an Australian: 1) Gun rights - we can own any break-open shotgun we like, any bolt or similar manual rifle, any pistol between .22 and .38 with some magazine restrictions, if we jump several really easy paperwork hoops. I got out and shot regularly every weekend and some weekdays. Under certain very restricted circumstances, we can apply for self-loaders and pump shotguns. In my personal experience, we have it better than some US states do right now. 2) The two quislings who let the current bunch of scumbags in were by no means conservative - they were in it for themselves, and backed what they saw as the winning side. They are retiring from Parliament effective this election because they know their electorates will give them a hiding, as are many members of the current government. 3) Election - the conservatives were on track to win in an absolutely crushing landslide if Gillard had stayed (which is also what was going to happen if Rudd had not been replaced in 2010). There is a small possibility that Rudd's reintroduction will cause a poll "bounce" that might save some seats in the lower house and stop the upper house falling to the conservatives, especially since he isn't bound by the September poll date his predecessor announced. Whether this would be enough to maintain government is anyone's guess, but given the number of front-bench politicians who are resigning their seats, I think the writing is well and truly on the wall.
