CPAC: Sen. Marco Rubio and Sen. Rand Paul
— Gabriel Malor

Game on. Both speeches were, predictably amazing. These men are busy staking out their claims. Sen. Rubio presented a more uplifting message about conservatism and the American dream. Actually, now that I think about it he did about the same thing in his RNC speech.

Whereas Rubio focused on what conservatism was about, Sen. Paul used the bulk of his speech to emphasize what conservatism was not about: big-spending, drone-killing, high-taxing, nanny-statism. This was red meat for a starving crowd and the attendees loved it.

Both speeches are tucked below the fold, courtesy again of the Right Scoop. Rubio:

''examples throughout Australia's commitment in Afghanistan of soldiers sunbathing in tactical positions . . . sitting in chairs and facing inwards in enemy areas, listening to music in tactical positions''.

There were also instances of ''hitting golf balls from overwatch positions into the green zone'', referring to the belts of vegetation in river valleys where many villages are located and Taliban militants have cover to move about.

And there were cases of ''kicking footballs in tactical positions, doing physical training in enemy areas, standing around bonfires in proximity to the green zone by night, and greeting helicopters at landing zones in thongs and T-shirts''

108 Here's a tweet from the twit who lectures us on why the GOP isn't winning hearts and minds;

Meghan McCain ‏@McCainBlogette

I don't care what anyone says about HBO's Girls, it's the most honest portrayal I've ever seen of how fucked up the modern world dating is.

111 Either can run. I won't support them in a primary though. No thanks to any senators. Also no thanks to any congressmen or former senators. And no thanks to any republican governors of blue states or governor that has been out of office for sometime. I want a sitting governor or recently retired governor of a red or purple state And if you start talking about bipartisanship fuck you too. I want to hear about results not that you managed to kiss up to some liberals in your state.

112 I would like to explain something to the progressives who might be reading this blog.

Gun control - of course - is not about guns - it is about control. There is a progressive dream world where the left wing imposes martial law, seizes all the guns from the law abiding, and from that point in time gets pretty much to do as they please.

The problem with that from the progressive perspective is this:

You utterly and completely fail to understand the enforcement mechanism of the second amendment.

If the progressives attempt a gun grab in violation of the second amendment here is what would happen:

The unorganized militia of the United States would quickly organize itself and deal appropriately with the threat to the country:

Perhaps the people of Washington D.C. remember what the DC sniper incident was like. Imagine 100,000 DC snipers - all of whom are deadly accurate shots and who are all targeting gun grabbers. None of the targets would survive that fire storm.

So much for the mad progressive dream of conquest of the United States.

What's the point here?  Our candidates don't talk like this when it's election time, and they don't govern like this when they get elected.  So what's the point.

As long as they're republicans, they're affiliated with a party that contents itself to be part of the problem.

116 I'm fine with either, but I think Rubio has the better shot to actually win, but  I probably prefer Rand Paul's more libertarian leanings.

Unless Rubio is has some sort of fatal skeleton in his closet, it would be foolish for the GOP not to nominate him.

But they'll both be dead in the water in the primary if they go along with some sort of Amnesty deal.

117 Just watched/listened to Rick Perry at CPAC (via Real Clear Politics).

Conservatism is not dead, y'all, just watching the left implode.
