American Revolution was like...5%

Quite a bit more, I think. No one seems to be really sure, but at least one contemporary (I think) observer estimated it at about a third both adamantly for and a third actively opposed, with a third just trying to avoid conflict.

Something to think about:  One reason why the Patriots won was because in the run-up to the revolution, they controlled the means of getting information out, the militias, and a lot of the local government, which meant that they could suppress the Loyalists to a large degree and keep the mushy middle more or less more or less inclined to go along with the patriot side.

The bad part of any revolution is that it will be bitter.  There will be no front line and no rear areas.  Imagine Mosby's Raiders nationwide.  There will be atrocities and counter atrocities.

And when the dust settles, we end up with a Lenin, Chavez, or Peron, not a Washington.

The good news for me is that I will likely be dead due to medical complications and no medication if it goes more than 100 days.

Pray we can settle this peacefully.

The weight of legal and historical authority indicates that the term "natural born" citizen would mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship "by birth" or "at birth", either by being born "in" the United States and under its jurisdiction, even those born to alien parents; by being born abroad to U.S. citizen-parents; or by being born in other situations meeting legal requirements for U.S. citizenship "at birth". Such term, however, would not include a person who was not a U.S. citizen by birth or at birth, and who was thus born an "alien" required to go through the legal process of "naturalization" to become a U.S. citizen.

Cruz was born to an American citizen.  He is an American citizen by birth.  This argument as to whether he is a natural born citizen is silly, right up there with he couldn't be President if he was born by C-section.  silly

Quite possibly - that is actually quite a large percentage, given that it was a civil war and couldn't draw on the entire male population (the record, during the 2nd Punic War and Napoleonic France, is something like 25% of eligible males in the military), and that the  Continental Army was only a small part of American forces - the local militia made up a lot of the American forces at any given time, and sometimes was operating  on its own.

Just looks at her, balls up her little angry fist and jabs her right dead center of the chest. Hard enough to make a THUD sound. Not the first time. Awesome answer from Ted, and I believe he'll get an awesome answer to that prayer!

81 I'm going to go to three of my favorite places in town this evening all within about a 3 mile radius. A buddy won tix to the local Single-A team's game against the Red Sox affiliate so he invited me. I'm going to hit the local BBQ place, the local watering hole for the Derby and then straight to the game.

83 "Quite possibly - that is actually quite a large percentage, given that it was acivil war and couldn't draw on the entire male population(the record,"

That plus the sad fact that the Continental Congress couldn't afford to pay with non-inflated currency the troops that were enlisted.  Valley Forge and Morristown, for instance, and Newburgh.  It was so bad that Washington had authorization to seize civilian provisions in order to feed his army.

85 What was the name of the Haitian death squads that roamed the streets?  Those "brown shirts" would be like them.

Wait...there's cooking on Ravelry?!

87 Tonton Macou? Or is that something entirely different.

Posted by: Lincolntf at May 04, 2013 11:20 AM (ZshNr)

88 In NAZI Germany, Hitler made good use of the unions and the MSM to help him project his message. Then he came to power and they all ended up in camps or ditches along with a lot of academics. Revolutions always cannibalize their own. You'd better pray it doesn't come to armed insurrection; a lot of good people get swept out with the trash.

90 Cruz gave credit to Sarah at CPAC for her help in his campaign. Very shrewd.

Ravelry itself is about needlework but our group has threads about cooking, gardening, writing, etc.

Yes.  That's the name.  I'm hoping that it doesn't end up having bands of people like them roaming the streets at night, picking up and killing supposed "enemies of the state".

Of course, I was hoping that this nation wouldn't elect a marxist as preezy.

Posted by: Soona at May 04, 2013 11:25 AM (itC1Y)

93 Cruz gave her credit because she deserved it.  She was one of the only nationally known in the GOP that got behind his campaign and gave him a chance for people to listen to him and give him credence.

The left certainly has an odious line-up of creepy anti-American pols. This gun thing brings them out of the wood work too.

98 @96.  Shrewd = astute, smart, sharp, clever.  I think the word was apropo.

It's not just the guns issue.  It's everything.  Every marxist in the nation has concluded that the re-election of Dear Leader gave them carte blanche to start expressing their deepest desires against this nation.  They're all out in the open for all to see.

Unfortunately, only about 40%  of this country seems to be paying attention.

The group is for all 'Ettes whether they be commenter or lurker. You have to get a free Ravelry account and then search under "groups" for 'Ettes of the Moron Horde. On the right hand side of the  group page is a "join group" button.

102 I know the definition of shrewd.  It's the "clever" part and imparts intention...  and it came across that way
