I'm not able to see this right now, but have read about it. All the bed wetters in the entertainment media are acting like Letterman just dished out some tough love to broken bird Lindsay. But he's really just trying to humiliate her? What a slimy goat's taint.

I think Lindsay Lohan is a ridiculous, entitled spoiled brat with no sense of responsibilty, but I wouldn't use her appearance on my TV show to raze whatever fragile ego she has left. That's crap. Someone who isn't a publicity seeking asshole should try to help her. That would probably mean flex cuffing her, tossing her in the trunk of a car and leaving her tied to the front steps of a rehab center in the Oregon wilderness, but that's where we are.

Back when he was worth watching (assuming my tastes were so fucking bad I could stomach him in his NBC days) whenever he'd talk to a musician, even a fairly well known one that Paul Schaeffer had to do some major ass kissing to get on, he was obviously unfamiliar with any of the music because he did no prep work and would ask lame questions about what restaurants the guy liked as Schaeffer is fucking dying off camera.

You're probably right but it doesn't have to be that way. There's a bit of alcoholism in Mother Hate's side of the family (shocking, I know) and there's always the ability to pull oneself out of a tailspin and lead a productive life. If I were a betting person I'd say it's not gonna happen here; but there's a reason I'm not a betting person. Being humiliated by that gap-toothed fuck could provide an impetus to get her trainwreck of a life together.

Letterman in the past justified interviews like this by claiming he was doing some ego-deflating of the overly-entitled, pre-packaged, publicity-driven Hollywood types - they would show up on another host's show to plug whatever new project they had, and the host du jour would make nice-nice in the best faux-Hollywood style, according to the spin the celeb wanted to promote. Letterman claimed that he was refusing to play that game, and to have contempt for that entire mindset. (Which, to be fair, could indeed be a little cloying to watch at times.)

Whether he was justified or not in doing so, the relevance of such an interview technique has long since passed its sell-by date. Now it comes across as pure meanness, bordering on sadism, and one feels a bit vicariously tainted simply for having participated indirectly by merely watching.

117 Never understood the appeal of his arch humor, he's always seemed suffocatingly smug and full of himself. Last time I watched him was decades ago when he mocked an oblivious Mr. Wizard, and thought it was strangely mean-spirited.

Read the account of her ability to cry on cue in the story about the making of her last movie. She could give a shit about the way he treated her. She wants public sympathy. Fuck that. She left the show and went clubbing the rest of the night. She left her "sentencing" and has been boozing and partying it up since. Oh, and she got her lawyer to convince the judge to let her have her Adderall in "lockdown".
