Even with sales and coupons, groceries are up across the board. It's only going to get worse. TFG.
No doubt. We generally get our groceries from two of the better quality 'discout' stores (and Costco). I've definitely noticed more and more expensive cars in the parking lots over the past few years.

At first a lot of the food inflation was hidden from low-info shoppers by shrinking volumes. They've pretty much gone as far as they can with that ploy. When you start fitting a "pound" of coffee into a ring box, even the idiots take notice.
So now they have to start jacking up the face prices.
Damn right. The box of girl scout cookies was definitely smaller than last year. I was so upset, I even mentioned it to the girl selling me them. She told me to "suck it up", and I was so angry I told her to get dressed and get out of my van.

Tiny drivers are bad for Nascar. Drivers are penalized for being normal, let alone big and strong.
Nascar equalizes it to a certain degree. But the weight they force them to add back doesn't really equalize. And they are allowed to put the weight lower than a driver. Lower center of gravity helps.
Posted by: Flatbush Joe at February 24, 2013 03:05 PM (ZPrif)
Ya know, when you're dealing with a 2,000 pound vehicle a weight difference of 50 pounds or so really isn't going to have a huge difference in performance.

Posted by: Shoey at February 24, 2013 11:27 AM (m6OUa)
Do you actually watch any NASCAR races? There have been a few women involved (usually off and on in the nationwide series) for decades. There's one black dude out of 36 drivers in the truck series. There's a couple hispanics as well. All of those people made a name for themselves in other series first. Juan Pablo Montoya is the only one of them to have won in NASCAR, and he had to earn it just like anyone else.
They have like one commercial aimed at 'minorities' showcasing some of those drivers, but that's about expanding the audience and making money more than anything else.

Nascar used to assume a 200 lb driver. This gave the smaller driver's an even greater advantage. Nascar changed it to 180 just last year to try to combat the trend of ever tinier drivers.

How could a GIJoe film starring Bruce Willis be bad?
And the Rock.
That was supposed to be released last year.

I think a late lap "racing incident" might be worse on that front for those worried about it.

Nice observation. For Danica to still be in the hunt at Daytona with less than 40 laps to go enhances my impression of this GoDaddy gal.

I think part of that might be because of his massive problems of keeping a car on the track. I also don't really watch nationwide so does he try racing there or is he of the "I'm good enough to be in the Sprint Cup so that's where I'm only racing" mentality?

She could well finish in the top 10 in points, based on her Stewart-Haas equipment alone. Unlike many of you, I think she has some talent. Championship contender? No. But I don't think she'll embarrass herself.

Yeah she definitely has talent. She's at least an average driver to above average. Which is like a lot of the other drivers she's competing against. A lot of the wrecks she's involved in haven't really been her fault and more of a matter of her getting caught up in them. Now if she were a great driver I think she'd be able to have avoided being hit in those incidents.
And she could embarrass herself if every week her post race interview consists of "I didn't get any help out there." Also she could have been smiling about finishing 8th in the Daytona 500.

GoDaddy is a run of the mill ISP, a true commodity product. The original owner has some great advice. But, Danica was able to push them to an enormous market share. Sex does sell.
Danica does a lot for fans and a lot for charity. She seems happy with her new boyfriend, and I wish her well. If she is a little aggressive and crazy, that seems to be part of the sport.
Posted by: Keating Willcox at February 24, 2013 04:37 PM (YZxuS)
BTW - I think she'll do fine in cup racing with the quality of Tony's shop and team, his mentoring and a bit more seat time.
NASCAR really needs the audience these days.

In other words Danica is one of the very few people in the world who can drive a car at NASCAR speeds; pretty much everyone who can drive big league racing cars is doing so. To call her a mediocre driver is simply absurd - like calling an NFL player a mediocre football player. If any of us attempted to race Danica Patrick - she'd make us look like complete fools.
