Here We Go: Four Egyptian Protesters Shot by Gunmen Inside Muslim Brotherhood HQ
— Ace

That's scores of people shining their lasers up at a military helicopter. Or, as NBC News might say, "two people."

You see that happen in a lot of videos of the crowd, laser light flashing the lens. But this is a pretty wild example of it.

There are some interesting unconfirmed claims. In Muqattem, Egypt, a Twitterer named @sandmonkey I'm told is generally reliable says that gunmen inside a Muslim Brotherhood HQ are shooting at the crowd outside:

I've seen some more claims that the MB HQ in Cairo is burning (though we heard similar things on Friday, and it just turned out to be bonfires outside the HQ). I also saw a general claim that as night has fallen on Egypt, "all hell is breaking out."

An odd thing about false information is that it can wind up making itself true -- false reports of shootings can lead to actual shootings, false reports of "all hell breaking out" can lead to riots.

So, a nervous night over there.

The BBC has estimated that this is the largest political protest... in world history. Which seems possible. Have 17 million ever protested a government before?

So it's strange to me the media gave the Tahrir Square protests such urgent, breathless play last time, when Obama was thinking about giving a speech, and seem to care so little about the biggest protest in history, when Obama isn't thinking about giving a speech.

Lolz. You shouldn't be surprised by how little the MSM has covered the protests.  You should be stunned that it covered them at all.  After all, it wasn't too long ago that the MSM was asking questions like these, which were asked by Nick Robinson of CNN:

'What do you have to say to President Obama?'

'Do you want to say thank you to President Obama?'

'Wouldn't you agree that, without President Obama's Cairo speech in 2009, the fall of Mubarak would never have happened?

'Don't you owe President Obama a depth of gratitude?'

The protestors looked at him like he was nuts and said 'President Obama didn't have anything to do with this. This has happened because of the Egyptian people.'

So, because the MSM is so far up Obama's ass and continuously claimed that the Egyptian Spring was the result of his efforts, I'm surprised that they would air anything considering it makes both them and Obama look like complete and utter incompetent fools.

The sands of time in the Reign of Terror which is our lives.

Here are some actual Kodak moments not involving ears or moochers:

He allowed the most extreme elements to take over but it was never going to last. The internet, cell phones and even TV have allowed a generation of young people in the middle east to realize they don't have to chose between a strong man or an Islamic theocracy, they actually have a chance to rule themselves. I think President Obama has decided to be true to himself in his second term. Behind closed doors, his handlers have no doubt been begging him to keep up the act because they're thinking of Hillary, who'll never be able to play to the center in 2016 if the country is roiled in what is essentially a socialist revolution. Besides, no con man can keep up the act forever and, by his lights, Obama's played moderate centrist long enough. His recent decisions, including tacit support of the Muslim Brotherhood and the arming of Syrian extremists, the environmental regulatory regime keeping down domestic energy production, the harassment and persecution of Tea Party groups and prominent Republican donors...what we're seeing is the mask coming off. Personally, I'm grateful. I'd rather we faced the guy we're facing, not some phony baloney cardboard cutout put out there by his flunkies in the press.

Our President hates us, you know. He sees us--you and me--as his real enemies. So how do you suppose a man who made his political bones in the Chicago Machine deals with his enemies?

316 Unbelievable that the Copts would ever sympathize with the Paleos since the Copts were the original Egyptians overrun by the A-rabs in the seventh century.

Well, in the 1950s and 1960s, it could be (and was) believed in upper-crust Arab circles that Islam was kind of an embarrassment, and that pan-Middle-Eastern socialist / nationalist solidarity was where it was at.

Hence, all the Alawites and Christians who joined up with other local minorities to form, say, the Baath in Iraq and Syria. Hence even the PLO and the Popular Front For The Liberation Of Palestine (I think it was called, unless I'm channeling Monty Python). Hence Nasser.

The Ayatollah and Hizbollah killed all that; it just took awhile for the corpse to quit twitching.

382 Morsi supporters say their clubs and homemade body armor are just for self defense as protestors in Tahrir Square and across the country demand Morsi to leave office. The death toll is now up to seven, with one American.

Morsi and his supporters are blaming the remnants of the Mubarak regime for sabotaging their efforts in the past year. Why is it do tyrannical regimes always blame someone else? Oh wait rhetorical question.

The tourist city of Luxor is a ghost town. Only five of 320 cruise ships that ply the Nile are still active. The Morsi appointed governor was chased out by protestors because he belongs to the group that attacked Luxor in 1997 killing 58 foreign tourists and 4 Egyptians.

When I was a soldier, I came home on xmas leave and, while having dinner with my family, asked my mother to pass the f*cking potatoes. I come from very religious people. Shocked silence ensued. Took me years after I got out of the Service to train myself to stop swearing all the time. I still find myself doing it when I'm tired or upset.

Take no offense. The legal profession has its own language, the medical field has its own language, and the military has its own language. Unfortunately, the language spoken by the military shouldn't be spoken aloud in mixed company.

I spoke to my son yesterday, who's deployed at FOB Apache in Zabul Province, Afghanistan. He's picked up some fairly colorful language himself. I didn't call him on it. How could I?

That's the Yemen. Everyone's armed over there. It becomes an ungovernable tribal free-for-all.

Which is good, at least for Yemenis; because when Yemen does get a strong government it sets about to slaughtering the tribesmen, and it enjoys killing the pro-Western tribes (like Zaydis) most.

He thought Nick Cage was a hero for getting guns into everyone's hands.

460 They have been protesting our female ambassador there as well and burning her pictures, the American flag, Obama's picture, etc.

If I were this Ambassador I would be feeling a tad bit nervous as this admin doesn't have a strong record for protecting our own.  I wonder what her security is like.

First of all, Barry's "brilliance" at sending a white, non-Muslim woman as ambassador to a Muslim country speaks volumes about his "world vision" and lack of intellect.  Didn't he also send a female to replace Ambassador Stevens?  I can't keep up with the stupidity.

466 I don't know any more than anybody else, but from my work experience in that part of the world I know that Egyptians are considered important in part (so the Egyptians tell me - but others as well) due to the antiquity and strength of their civilization. Even though all their real achievements were pre-Islamic. I can't figure it out either. Anyway, a revolution in Egypt may have major consequences simply due to the high regard in which Egyptian civilization and culture are held throughout the Arab world. We shall see.

467 453 what if even half of those 17 million had a firearm and could all get on the same page...That's the Yemen. Everyone's armed over there. It becomes an ungovernable tribal free-for-all. of course they would never have anything resembling the 2nd amendment after ruth bader ginsburg went over there and told them when they were writing their constitution to not base it on ours gee i wonder why...

469 "Some men can handle the separation, the missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays." I never saw a single Marine who wasn't happy to be with friends or loved ones on those days. At our place, there was a standing offer to anyone who could not go home for the holidays to come share a meal and libations at our place. My wife used to take goose and sugar plum sauce to the guys on guard duty at the squadron on Christmas eve and on Christmas day. My daughter was 10 before she realized that all those guys weren't her uncles. Heh! Most non-military people have no idea how meaningful it is when they offer the most simple thanks. I only wish that they knew how hard it is for the families of the guys and gals on deployment. On the other hand...My oldest boy is scheduled to go to Boot Camp after his 21st birthday in October. He'll be there through the holiday season. Its gonna be really hard on the Grumpy Grandma; I, on the other hand will not be affected.....*cough, cough, sniff* What goes around comes around. :0

470 My father never lost his colorful language,  because when he left the service in '45,  he went into construction.

This is why my son,  his grandson,  piped up one day saying "That isn't worth sour owl shit."

His daughters had a working knowledge of colorful language,  too.  But my mother,  a Methodist and a schoolteacher,  schooled us on not using it in public.

473 'Approaching 4 hrs of nation-wide live coverge of attacks on #MB #Moqatam HQ & still no police on site & no reaction from #MoI #Egypt.

— Gehad El-Haddad (@gelhaddad) June 30, 2013

This concerns the MoFoBrosÂ’ Cairo HQ, which is their main bldg in Egypt. The protestors set it ablaze and no one from government or the military has come to help.

Earlier, military helicopters dropped an enormous number of flags on the crowds, who erupted in approval, police and other first responders are refusing to act against the citizens and are, in fact, joining them.

474 This time, Obama's guy is in power, and Obama's party is in power. Of course he's not going to make a speech. Of course he's not going to say "he has to go."

Obama is no Muslim. But if he did favor shariah and Islamic political dominance, would his actions and behavior with respect to the "Islamic nations" (an American president should never use such words without derision and castigation as his intent) be different than what they have been and are? I submit, no, they would not.

475 Sandmonkey is great... I used one of his posts in my class to show my students what free speech really means (it means speaking out against tyrants and dictators and those who would take away their life, liberty, and property).

477 6 months ago a friend of mine, who is married to an Egyptian, made the comment that Morsi was considered by many Egyptians to have stolen the election with a lot of outside help -- and that this, plus the lack of democratic reforms were resented by many and if not addressed would lead to another uprising. This and the protests in Turkey may lead to other events.

478 Conventional wisdom: "If we support the overthrow of Mubarak and his kind the people will probably choose their new rulers poorly" Reality: "Correct." Conventional wisdom: "Then all will be lost and these Arab societies will be Shariah states for decades, maybe centuries" Reality: "Less than correct."
