— Ace Previously, Hobby Lobby lost its own bid for an injunction. Now Domino's wins, creating a split that will have to be resolved by higher courts at some point.
A federal judge has ordered a temporary halt on the Obama administrationÂ’s birth-control coverage policy for Tom Monaghan, the Catholic billionaire who founded DominoÂ’s Pizza.Federal District Court Judge Lawrence P. Zatkoff issued the decision Sunday, less than two days before the policy would have taken effect and exposed Monaghan to fines for non-compliance.
“Plaintiff has shown that abiding by the mandate will substantially burden his exercise of religion,” Zatkoff wrote.
“The government has failed to satisfy its burden of showing that its actions were narrowly tailored to serve a compelling interest. … This factor weighs in favor of granting Plaintiffs’ motion.”
How did we come to the point that religious liberty was worth violating in order to satisfy some people's demand to be subsidized $3-6 per month for birth control?
The feminists have an odd theory that religious strictures about sex and birth control are specifically about controlling women's reproduction, taking decisions from women and giving them to "the patriarchy." They insist that such strictures exist specifically to subtract rights from women to deliver them to men (or male-dominated institutions), rather than serving as directives that apply to both genders.
So they've ginned up $3-6 per month as a serious civil rights issue. If men needed birth control, it would already be paid for, they insist, overlooking the fact that men do need (or, at least, often want) birth control, and men's birth control expenses are also not covered.
As is true with so much of our politics -- and I think this is detestable -- the bottom-line consequences of what they seek are minor in the extreme. What is really sought is an encoded-into-law declaration of the legal supremacy of one culture over another, to the extent that the culture which has lost this political debate is actually now illegal and cannot exist as it previously had.
While such matters were previously left to each individual conscience -- each person herself or himself decided whether to use birth control, and paid using his own private money -- a law is now on the books stating that everyone must pay for birth control, no matter what one's religious beliefs may say about it.
This isn't about $3-6 per month, of course. It's specifically about using the law to win a cultural argument through coercive force. If you can't persuade them, criminalize them.

I think you're missing a subtle point here thought. Part of this fight is about "normalizing the sexes." that is to say, if Birth Control is "Free" (in quotes because we know it's not actually free but cost shifted, but let's roll with that for now as how the crazies think).
Anyway, if "free" then it opens access to "all women" (again, not true but roll with it.)
Then woman can use it and (here's the kicker) be just like men not having to worry about the consequences of sex (yes I know, other consequences, I didn't say this argument was logical! It's progressive after all).
This also explains the addition of all forms of birth control, not just the generic pill form (which would have been the cheapest way to achieve the goal they claim they're going after.)
So this issue isn't a cultural debate in the "pro-birth control" and "no Birth control" clans. It's about changing (eliminating/hiding) any differences between the sexes. Which is strange.
Oh and eugenics. It's also about eugenics. Sanger's grand experiment in birth control had the opposite outcome she hoped for (i.e. that the poor and blacks would self select and thus eliminate themselves from the population.) In fact, it was rich whites who did all the self selecting (broading speaking not focused on abortion.) In part some would suggest this is because birth control cost money (not much but enough that people choose not to buy it) and requires (minimal) effort. So you make it free and effortless (again speaking as someone who thinks like this would) and maybe Sanger's ideas will work (unlikely.) That's the only way you justify the "savings through pregnancy prevention" argument.

Incorrect. Absolutely incorrect. Corporations or businesses, which are outgrowths of my Right of Free Association, have the same rights, in general, as any individual. Indeed, by attempting to remove their rights, you are the one guilty of tyranny.
If you don't like the benefit package an employer offers, don't work there. It's that simple. They shouldn't have to provide you any benefits beyond your base pay at all (beyond marketplace reasons, that is).
In point of fact, this whole line of argument is ridiculous. Your employer cannot prevent you from getting birth control in any way. The most they can do is choose not to pay for it. You have every right to purchase your own birth control. You have every right to purchase your own personal insurance policy (which, yes, the insurance companies should have the right to deny. The world is messy) which could cover birth control if your employer's group plan does not.

It's to get rid of the older people who can tell the younger generations about what freedom was like in the old days. Remove the old Constitutional patriots. Why do you think that a law prof. would feel comfortable about his views on getting rid of the Constitution.

Federal agencies created by Republicans (that I came up with 30 seconds):
OSHA, EPA, Consumer Product Safety Commission, DHS, TSA.

My employer did not provide me with a free breakfast this morning, ergo they denied me access to breakfast, which is necessary for my health and well-being.
The money they pay me for working, how does anyone expect me to use that to purchase my own breakfast?!

GOP's stauch anti-tax record:
From 1865 to 1929, it was the party of high tariffs. Mission: Build the nation and protect U.S. industry and the wages of American workers.
And if the Deity commanded the GOP to cut taxes, the party has had an uneven record. Warren Harding and Coolidge cut Woodrow Wilson's wartime tax rates by two-thirds, but Herbert Hoover nearly tripled the top rate.
Under Dwight Eisenhower, when the top tax rate was 91 percent, the GOP ratified the New Deal and provided the tax revenue to balance the budget at the elevated levels of spending 20 years of Democratic rule had established.
Richard Nixon followed suit. Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, aid to education, the Peace Corps, the arts and humanities endowments, all of the Great Society programs grew -- with Nixon adding OSHA, EPA, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Cancer Institute.
Reagan cut tax rates to 50-year lows, but also accepted new gasoline and payroll taxes. George H.W. Bush then raised the top rate back to 35 percent.
George W. cut tax rates, but put two wars, prescription drug benefits for seniors and No Child Left Behind on the Visa card.

And you can transpose that over to the leftists in congress. They have no intention of having any kind of a free-market recovery.

Don't forget the interview (ABC maybe?) where he said he wanted higher rates even if it meant less revenue for "fairness."
He'll fall back on that.
Yes, most LIV's forgot that quote, it was overshadowed by his current "more revenue" rhetoric. But he'll say "I said that's what I wanted!"
And people will believe him.

More like:
1) Date a bunch of different guys uninterested in marriage while you're in college/working/pursuing assorted interests
2) Get old pursuing those interests, assuming someone will eventually realize they can't live without you because you're bright and can cook and have big boobs
3) Realize all the guys you used to date are suddenly interested in marriage....to women 5-15 years younger than you, because they want to have families.
Oops.

Section 1501 of the PPACA:
SEC. 1501. REQUIREMENT TO MAINTAIN MINIMUM ESSENTIAL COVERAGE.
‘‘(2) RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS.—
‘‘(A) RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE EXEMPTION.—Such term shall not include any individual for any month if such individual has in effect an exemption under section 1311(d)(4)(H) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which certifies that such individual is a member of a recognized religious sect or division thereof described in section 1402(g)(1) and an adherent of established tenets or teachings of such sect or division as described in such section.
Since Muslims are opposed to insurance on religious grounds....and Catholics, for example, are not, this is in practice a "pass" from PPACA for Muslims.
We'll see how it actually plays out.

It wasn't a restriction. It was a compulsion "by the people" that employee compensation must include an AR-15, each and every paycheck.
Don't want that many AR-15s? Too bad, "the people" have spoken.
Posted by: ConservativeMonster at January 02, 2013 10:44 AM (xGZ+b)
AR-15s should not be paid for with employer taxes.
The government should require citizens to obey the Militia Act of 1792, and purchase a single tax-free M-16 and keep it maintained.
If you cannot afford one, the government should provide one, and pay for it with steep fees on conscientious objectors by requiring them to have an expensive permit to not carry a firearm.
