I've met more than my share of people here in the Northwest that truly believe that once we are forced to single payer that the only ones making health decisions will be you and your doctor, and it will all be paid for by someone richer than they are.  It's insane, and it'll never EVER become clear to them the problems they're having are because of gov't interference.

I was wondering about this actually.

I commented that with regards to the Time article, that people (even the author) would draw the wrong conclusions.  And they seem to.  Most people I see are talking about passing "price controls" (when transparency would be far more effective.)

Yet this all points in the same direction.

(FWIW, the Time article suffered from believing that the Medicare model could be expanded, without realizing that it's only successful because it legislates prices.  In areas where it doesn't it fails hard core.  Also he dismissed cost shifting from Medicare to private insurance, which is documented studied and real, as some fallacy because: hospitals in Florida are growing.  WTF?!)

154 LOL, this is the hidden cost nobody discusses. Premiums are to rise slightly and then a huge jump in 2016. In 2016 all insurance companies will have the same rates, the Obamacare Rates... they have bronze, silver, and gold plans. The cheapest of the plans will be about $20k/year for a family of 5. Insurance rates more than double. I'm sure deductibles go up as well, but not sure what those rates are. The impact of this is profound. If self employed you have to pay this cost yourself, an extra $10k/year you'll have to spend on healthcare. If you're employed, this means you're employer has to come up with an additional $10k to insure you. Just do the math, the impact will be huge. Either there will be layoffs or wages will go down or companies will drop coverage altogether and elect to pay the fine.

165 I work in IT for a HUGE health insurance company.  They (Dim operatives) want our reserves.  We are legally required to have money available to the pay maximum benefits for all of our policy holders and their dependents at the same time.  It amounts to billions of dollars.  We are allowed to invest the money, but, it has be be liquid enough that we can pay such a fantastic amount in full within 30 days.  The government wants that money.  They will gulp it down if they can and give the excuse that they do not need to maintain the same liquidity because they are the Federal Government--just like they did with all the money that poured into Social Security.

When I first met her she was bragging about the superiority of the British health care system, so my reaction was.. "oh boy here we go again with that nonsense". Finally, and the point I wanted to make about the glories of socialism: her home was "assigned" by a city council. So her ingovernment has reduced her income, based on a situation which her government created. She's also among the millions of eldery single women now finding themselves undergoing public hazing by "immigrant males". Life in socialist Britain is moving forward.

They have been salivating over your 401(k) and IRAs since the Clinton days.  They want all the Baby Boomer retirement money.  The talk is at least a 10% across the board one time deficit "tax".  The other rumor is they take your 401(k) and/or IRA money and give you another couple of grand or so on your Social Security check.  This leaves you with no money that does not come from the government and it leaves you with no money to pass on to the next generation.  I have had long discussions with my broker, if this looks like it is really coming out of the weeds, I plan to buy my own annuity and take a certain amount in cash.

I don't know about that. Obama's base doesn't have 401k plans. 401ks and IRAs are held by people who work. The few liberals who actually do work won't stand for this crap either. Perhaps, especially considering the craptacular "center-right" "opposition" we have in CONgress these days. Which is why I 1) stopped contributing to my 401k about 3-years ago, 2) took out a loan against my existing 401k balance which I used to buy "shiny things that are colored "gold" and "silver", 3) will be taking out another loan, for the maximum available, as soon as my current loan is paid off.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. At least until King Putt (and all who think like him) is sent to the ash-heap of history, that is.
