— Ace Allah thinks it's not realistic that Carson could run for President as his first elective office bid -- I think that's wrong.
The typical pathway to the president is indeed a stint as governor (or, if you're a Democrat, sometimes a Senator, which everyone understands is just not real preparation for the presidency but sometimes we pretend it is).
There's a big exception to this rule, however. People who are vastly accomplished what we might call Heroic Fields (military, and, yes, medicine, I'd argue) do in fact have all the "gravitas" that a governorship or (giggle) Senate posting is supposed to confer already, just due to their day jobs.
And Carson has quite an impressive day job indeed. People have already called him "The General Eisenhower of pediatric neuroscience." *
I wouldn't bet the farm on him but I think he's actually a possible candidate. One thing I worry about is that people that are very accomplished in fields other than politics do not learn the vital political skills of shit-eating, groveling, pandering, and lying for advancement in a bureaucratic situation, and in fact naturally recoil from such things.
And I'm not kidding around when I say those are important skills. People who are greatly accomplished sometimes have a difficult time acting as if they're not greatly accomplished, and sometimes act like They Know More Than You, which the American public hates, because people hate things that are obviously true.
Trump could never, ever learn to temper his Master of the Universe act. Mitt Romney tried his level-best, and always came across as disingenuous in his efforts.
I imagine Carson is a very bright guy, and is Usually Right, and furthermore is Usually Right even in the company of other bright guys. People who are Very Bright and Usually Right sometimes act as if they're Very Bright and Usually Right, and do have some trouble not coming across as someone who knows he's Very Bright and Usually Right.
But all of this is two years off.
The news here -- or, news to me at least -- is that Carson is retiring from surgery this June.
Gee, active guy, very used to being a Top Dog in a Highly Competitive Field.
I wonder what he might do with his free time.
Maybe origami.
* When I say "people have already called him The General Eisenhower of pediatric neurosurgery" I meant me. I'm a people. But you guessed that.
Corrected: Retiring in June, not "next year," as I said.

And just like this new fellow, the previous next-new-thing was African American. Which made him the perfect conservative antidote to Obama, or so it was said.
Whatever happened to that guy? Can't recall his name clearly. Rain, or Main, or Plain, or something.
He didn't turn out to be much good at derailing the Train, to wit, the Obama train.
So forgive me if I don't fall over myself with adoration over this next-next-new-thing guy.

Dr. Carson doesn't seem like the type to suffer fools gladly. He's dealt with deadly serious situation, knows what works and what doesn't, and seems the sort of man who'll tell you when you're wrong without malice.
From what I've seen of him, he has the temperament for the job. He'd have my vote.

I do too (think that's wrong).
I suspect if Carson is pondering a run, he'll conjure up some more awesome speeches and let the public "draft" him.
If he spent the next 3 years doing that (and making money), he'd be a shoo-in. He'd probably form the "logic" party, as well.

Yup, he'd probably need a bit of coaching, but not much. Somebody would have to make sure that any political consultant who's worked for the GOP the past two cycles is kept far away from him. Rove, I'ma looking at you.

Dr. Carson works within a huge bureaucratic system that is tightly regulated by government: the hospital and healthcare system. Don't kid yourself thinking that political skills of the basest sort are not required in healthcare; it's a highly competitive field where all are jockeying for the top-dog position and where allies and subordinates will betray each other at any time. Massive egos, like politicians. Power-mad, like politicians.
I used to work for a doctor who was the equivalent of Dr. Carson (but in a different specialty). There is nothing in politics that my boss couldn't have handled, but he brought the added advantage of actual ability, a proven record for achieving successful results, and extensive experience in business ownership and massive wealth production -- while still being a decent and honorable person himself and a great parent. When insurers were refusing to provide malpractice coverage for doctors in his specialty, he set to work to solve the problem -- and did so in ways that made the insurers sit up and behave, not to mention to try to drive him out of business. But he took his solutions across the country and, fighting for all physicians in his specialty, beat insurers at their own game. When he eventually fell, it was to one of his closest colleagues, who stabbed him in the back and swooped in to capture the spoils for himself (a sneaky doctor whom I had never trusted).
We could use more people like Carson wielding the levers of power in our government.

Even if Carson doesn't run, he pointed out in his speech that listening to different viewpoints (and tactics, in his case) are always wise things to do. That means that hopefully whoever does run picks up a couple pointers.

I'll keep off the Carson bandwagon for now. Sarah Palin burned me when it came to the "conservative savior" wave. With that caveat, two things to keep in mind if he wants to run:
1. Somebody would have to make sure that any political consultant who's worked for the GOP the past two cycles is kept far away from him. Rove, I'ma looking at you.
THIS. And get someone to tell him the GOP establishment hates uppity blacks who want to upset the gravy train as much as the left does.
2. Get Sarah Palin to have a heart-to-heart with Carson to tell him EXACTLY what the scum in the MFM are capable of. He needs balls and spine of steel to survive their filth.

Flying squids fly in the same sense that flying fish "fly". They propel themselves out of the water, and glide for some distance on winglike appendages.
But squid are very smart. They'll get that duration thing figured out yet.

Think about why Dr. Carson gets under zero's skin so much. There are so many parallels/distinctions it's unbelievable.
Dr. Carson's father left him and his mother. Dr. Carson grew up from nothing in crushing poverty. Dr. Carson is not half-white. Dr. Carson's mother had a 3rd grade education and could not read. Dr. Carson grew up in the ghetto of Detroit. Dr. Carson has become a first rate physician. Dr. Carson has accomplished amazing goals. Dr. Carson was the first one EVER to successfully separate siamese twins due to an innovation he realized. Dr. Carson is an amazing scholar, and it shows, and he EARNED it.
Compare this to zero. His father left him. He is half-white. Despite international travels early, he was raised by his white mother and his white grandparents. He was raised in an upper-middle class environment and went to private school in Hawaii. His accomplishments are first "black" editor of the Harvard Law Review. Then nothing. Community organizer. Then Senator in an uncontested race. Then we get to President, where anyone who was not a Republican would win in 2008. I give him credit for 2012, but not too much.
Then contrast and compare the men's views. Dr. Carson has every reason to be bitter. Every reason to blame everything on class, race, lack of opportunity. But he is a shining example of everything that is America. A BRIGHT LIGHT that is not bitter, does not want to "hurt" those are successful.
Zero has done nothing but demogague and push failed policies that are known will fail. Class divides. Racial divides. He has done more to divide this country and put the boot of government down on everyone.
That is why zero hates Dr. Carson. Dr. Carson's very existence gives the lie to Zero's concocted "persona" and "ideas."
To the point, THESE ARE THE CANDIDATES/PEOPLE WE NEED. Candidates whose very existence refute the fucking usual attacks by these cocksuckers in the media.
I'm not sure why I need to keep pounding the table on this. How do you punch through the buffers of the usual MSM attacks on any conservative candidate. DESTROY THEIR ORIGINAL MESSAGE WITH YOUR CANDIDATE'S FACE. Only then do we reach the American people because their schtick will be seen as shallow and bullshit.

If Dr. Carson really wants to throw his hat in the ring and run for office, I hope he's making plans to relocate to a red state when he retires. Because right now he's in Baltimore. I don't care if he's black Albert Einstein, he will not be elected to a statewide office in MD as a Republican.
And yeah, while I'm very impressed with him, after my excitement over Palin, Rubio, Christie, Ryan etc...I am being cautious now. Because even if he is everything we hope he is, the MSM will go all out to destroy him. (He does not believe in macroevolution. Whatever his reasoning for that is, you can be sure the MSM will pounce on that and paste the "anti-science religious nut" label on this fine surgeon. ) And we know the MSM still has the power to destroy.

Actuall, that may not be the case in this case. He was out front first, he has a few books under his belt, a movie, and now a big speech in front of TFG and the national media. He's beaten them to the punch.
IMO, anything they said about him just might look pretty stupid, since he was out there first. He had command of his own image initially.

Pretty sure that's apnea. It's not something that afflicts the scrawny. My best advice is to get tough with the doc. I personally will not work with or give money to a doctor who brushes me off. Have had some weird shit and if I hadn't kept pursuing it and going to another and another and another, I would not have had the satisfactory result. This is MY body and MY problem and if you don't take it seriously, you're fired.
Posted by: Peaches at February 11, 2013 05:52 PM (kpCLl)
Jane D'oh, I had the same problem with my beloved hubby. I bought the nasal things for him ( forget what they're called, but they are strips like bandaids that hold open the nasal passages) and he hated them. Fight, fight, fight. Refusal after one night. Now he doesn't snore! I don't know why. He didn't lose weight or anything. It was weird. I think that his just knowing that it was bothering me so much made him reposition himself, or wake himself up to reposition himself. My first husband hated sleeping with me after I had eaten garlic (every day). He would sleep elsewhere or sleep with his head at the foot of the bed. It's been almost 20 years, and I still sleep with my index finger "closing" my lips, so I don't breathe my hideous garlic breath on present husband. The point is, subconscious methods work.

A kick ass principled speech from a Carson would have been perfect
10 MONTHS AGO
Project ORCA geniuses never once data-mined a conservative , black chief neurosurgeon at a prestigious hospital with a gift for public speaking ?

Has SCOAMF/T attended a National Prayer function before? He usually avoids these Jesus things; presumably to dodge the "stray" lightening bolt that might be sent his way.

And he donated to Steve Forbes (R) in 1999, some guy named Thomas (D) in 2002, Bartlett (R) in 2012, and Romney (R) in 2012.
Since you sad that he only donates to Democrats, that still makes you a liar.

point taken.
But you'd think that one of the GOP folks in charge of conservative talent spotting would have read his book or something?
His speech will make a nice soothing sound track for The Burning Time.

Anyhow, I asked him to sit down and watch the 27minute video of the good doctor at the prayer breakfast.
He actually sat down and watched it from one end to the other, and than commented on how much the doctors story showed how applying yourself can really answer many problems in life.
And then when he found out that some of our friends are personal friends of the Doctor, and work with him at Hopkins, it became "I would really like to meet him"
May not mean a bucket of warm spit.
Just thought I would mention it..

He's probably 40 IQ points smarter than Cain or Palin. Even though he's Ivy League, he wasn't in their dumbed down poli-sci or history departments; that makes a big difference.
He struck me as very Reaganesque, with his story telling and natural warmth. If he has the killer instinct, and his speech in front of O'Buckwad suggests that he does, he may be a player.

I haven't been boo'ed here for a while. Here goes. First and foremost. IT IS THE LEFTIES THAT DREAM OF, CREATE, AND VOTE FOR SAVIORS!!!!!!.
Not we on the conservative or libertarian side of the equation. I really like Dr. Carson. He has had an amazing life and and impressive career. He seems like a truly remarkable man. And he seems to be a very compassionate man as well. Great Guy. I'd love to have a glass of bourbon with him.
However. One of his ideas that is getting the most press is the idea of a lifetime personal health savings account. Great idea! I agree. People should realize that like all services and goods, health care is a consumable which has a cost associated with it. But. He says. If someone doeasn't have/can't afford to fund their own account. Well. We simply use all of the extra dollars we have laying around to fund it for them. Easy, peasy, lemon squeazy. "WOW". Was the response. What a great "free market solution". Free market my ass. What about those who can't afford a plan? ( And who in their right mind would admit to being able to afford to fund their own plan?)
What dollars? I ask. Are you talking about all those extra tax dollars? Do you mean all those tax dollars that were taken by the "Imperial Federal Gov't thru the coersive use of force? Those dollars? Well, excuse me, but shouldn't those dollars be returned to the rightful owners? The hard-working, righteous folk who earned them thru the sweat of their brow. The responsible people who pay their own way only to see the fruit of their labor stripped away to pay for the "needs" of the less fortunate? Those dollars?
Look. I like this guy. I like his Moxie. He showed some real balls to give that speach in front of the "Resident" of the United States. I'm impressed. And awed. But I think we need to learn a bit more about him before we declare him to be the 3rd coming. (Obama Tyrannis Rex is a solid second place).
I don't know who will be the next President. I assume, unless you know something I don't, that it will again be Obama, Tyrannis Rex. I say that because it is clear that the last free Presidential election we held in this country was in 2008. I'm pretty sure it won't be Dr. Carson. I could be wrong, but before we go all slobbery on this guy we owe it to ourselves to do some due diligence.

We said Ace. This is absolutely true.
What is also true is that Mitt Romney is not only one of the most esteemed businessmen of his generation, but one of the most genuine men left.
Dr. Carson falls into the same catagory; except we trade off the widely applicable fields of business and economics for the esoteric field of neurosurgery. I work in neurobiology, I know the blank stares.
At the end of the day, all the careful candidate picking on the national stage is for naught until we recognize and fight for the one true battlefield where the mass populace is brainwashed -- the media.
