Emergency/temporary ONT

Because its getting harder and harder to roll scandal free during the day...

Is your PC's clock accurate? The US Naval observatory clock is an authoritative reference...and its online.

The mechanism for how cat allergies work has been discovered. Formulating a treatment seems within reach.

What is this "militia" thing gun grabbers like to whine vacuously about anyway? Now you know what actual Federal law says it is...and its VERY SEXIST.

...of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
If you're female and not in the guard, you ain't even covered by the 2A according to gun grabber logic. You're welcome.

My ride's up for a new timing belt, and the garage is packed full of crap, so that's gonna wind up being an all daylight job.  I figure about 4hr start to finish.  I might save that till the weekend.

Eclectic non-scandalness.

I'd started prepared an emergency ONT when it started getting to be 10:15'ish and there wasn't an ONT in draft status, then the ONT suddenly appeared.  That emergency ONT became this.

32 For this post much thanks. Can't sleep thanks to a whiny back. Great news re cat allergies. My wife has them bad, but nurturing angel that she is, that doesn't stop us from having three (and three big dogs as well, haterzzzz). Our 7-year-old schoolhouse pendant fixture from Restoration Hardware capped out the other day. It was rated for an 150 watt bulb, and that's what it got. Took it apart, and it was wired with plain old zip cord. That was completely blackened, and the socket terminals were rusted away (crimped, not screwed). Only partly charred was the UL sticker.

36 OK, the Huma Abedin thing is starting to get on my nerves. Whenever a liberal woman is thrust into the public eye (or thrusts herself, as was basically the case here), we become culturally obliged to pretend she is beautiful, intelligent and gracious, apparently for no reason other than said liberality. Michelle Obama is not beautiful, Hillary Clinton is not intelligent, and Huma Abedin is not gracious. To the contrary, these are all ridiculous, power-mad wenches who deserve our scorn rather than the fawning treatment they actually receive.

43 Just went through the movie lineup for this morning.  Absolutely nothing worth watching.  I am paying $87/month for sat TV and the only thing I watch is a very small amount of news, college football in the Fall, and I listen to the music channels.  Wife watches Wheel of Fortune (local channel) and the "family movies" during Christmas season.

I could do most of that with an HD antenna for free.  So why am I paying $87/month?  Stupid I guess.

49 "I could do most of that with an HD antenna for free" If you need any tips Vic drop me a line. I live in CT and use a $130 antenna with a $45 booster and pickup about 30 channels (and watch almost none of them but it keeps the Mrs. happy) And you MIGHT need a mast direction control motor, mine is 16 years old and don't recall what I paid for it. 99% of the time I don't turn mine, once its aimed at the station viewed the most it just picks up everything else. Uncompressed high-def TV does look rather nice.

Posted by: gdonovan at July 25, 2013 03:05 AM (ZDE9A)

50 I have a small TV upstairs that I use mostly for watching Bluray movies. I simply strung a piece of wire in the attic for an antenna and I get about 15 channels.

And I am not anywhere close to a "city".

56 HDTV OTA signals are more line of sight than the previous analog standards. If you have a good mountain between you and the transmitter, you are largely out of luck. Because so much is on Mt. Wilson, reception out here is pretty much nil. If you don't have cable or satellite you're not going to get much.

I found a pretty good site a few years ago that would take your address, factor the topography, and tell you whether you had a decent chance of getting any of the listed stations.

I don't think this was it but it has similar facilities:

The 41st president was pictured in a wheelchair today on the family's Maine compound sporting his signature colorful socks, with Patrick seated on his lap. Both he and Patrick wore light-blue shirts, although Patrick had a couple of toy cars, as well. Patrick is the son of, Jon, a member of Bush's Secret Service detail, many of whom also went under the razor to support the young cancer fighter. (Last names were withheld at the request of the family, Bush's office said) Bush and Barbara Bush have an even more personal connection to Patrick's fight. They lost their second child, Robin, to leukemia 60 years ago when she was 4. Members of the Bush Protective Detail have set up a website, www.patrickspals.org, to help pay for Patrick's medical bills. And they have organized the Inaugural Patrick's Pals Motorcycle Benefit Run in Kennebunkport, Maine, to help pay for Patrick's treatments.

OK, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  I can always repost in the Headlines thread.  But first, can anybody explain why I should get up at the crack of dawn, go to work, go home, sleep fitfully and then do it all over again?  Because I really, really donÂ’t want to be here.  Can I trade my membership in the KISS Army for membership in the FSA?

**deep sigh, looks for tea**

No hot water.  It figures.  OK, then, here are a couple of short stories.  The first is brought to you by happy puppehs:

http://tinyurl.com/lwqc8hs

During the days of silent film, directors didnÂ’t have to worry about calling “quiet on the set.”  Sometimes several films would be shot simultaneously in adjoining sets, while at other times, an organ player or small band would be playing during a shoot in order to put performers in the right mood.  But when sound came, noise could ruin a scene, resulting in multiple – and expensive – retakes.

One old movie hand, reminiscing for Photoplay magazine in 1930, remembered a time when a day extra on an early talkie brought a pocketful of crickets with him and let them loose on the set when no one was looking.  For the next three days, sound techs tore the place apart trying to find the strange chirping that was ruining their recordings.  And that sly extra – with all the other extras – pocketed three-day checks instead of one when the shot was finally finished.

ItÂ’s said that the MGM producer Hunt Stromberg, discussing the production of a possible South Seas picture, told a conference, “Boys, IÂ’ve got an idea.  LetÂ’s fill the screen with tits!”  When it came to massive mammae, the 1950s were the decade for the breast man, with the emergence of Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Sophia Loren and Kim Novak.

But of course, it had all started with Howard Hughes, who knew that his 1947 Western, The Outlaw would have a very special appeal to male audiences.  To ensure it, he devoted take after take to shots of busty Jane Russell leaning over the wounded Billy the Kid.

And it worked.  At the movieÂ’s premiere, when Russell leaned forward, a member of the audience yelled, “Bombs away!”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

96 Thought for the day:

During the Cold War, if the Soviets had not truly believed we would have pulled the trigger, we very well would have been probably nuked.

So it is with your liberty. You must make it clear that you will not accept abridgements, not will you accept excommunication for so not accepting. For we are at a critical inflection point, and only resolute determination will win through.

As has been seen time and time again--at first they of the other side will scoff. Then they will redouble efforts. Only after it becomes a determined struggle will they reconsider. You must therefore make it a determined struggle if you are to have any chance at all (for the threat to liberty is far greater than at any other time in the history of the Republic), and you may have to do it without the help of anyone of importance in national office, for they of position and title are at the end of the day are all too often concerned mainly with what can be for themselves, not with what should be for us all.

100 To amplify--we are rapidly closing to a point where what the pols wish to do to achieve continuation in office, and what *needs* to be done, are two separate things. You will have to make a decision then.

As with every generation, the entire fate of the American Experiment is now in your own hands. What will you do?

101 Thanks Vic, your news share is always good. The thread doesn't matter. And thanks MPPPP. I don't always read the early threads, so I miss your great stories. Insomnia is sometimes a good thing!

102 #79   Vic,  I am tempted to call BS on that story about Carter.  When I went to read it,  it was what Carter told Sabato.   No documentation or infor from the Secret Service.

It is possible,  however,  that the Muslim Brotherhood is still after him because of the Israel-Egypt peace treaty.  So although I am skeptical I will reserve judgement.

108 And I will say one final thing--I believe that we should make it clear that, with one exception, when we have left, we will have left. There will be no patching over of differences, for we should not have had to leave in the first place. I know that for myself, this is going to be my position in all dealings (and most likely to have to be done in a month or two for one institution).

The one exception is the national union.
