— Open Blogger Seriously? Really?
Nancy Reagan in her prime is more hittable than Michelle Obama. I don't doubt the veracity of this polling, I do however question the kind of cachet BuzzFeed is trying to ummm...nurture with it.
Doods, Perez Hilton got the trashy turf staked out already. Quit while you're ahead.

Here's a simple hittability test: try to imagine Michelle Obama appearing on screen at the height of 1950's film noir. Ha ha, I am, of course, joking, and was deliberately implanting an unwanted image in your mind. Nancy Reagan was paid money to be in the movies during what might have been the last era of real glamour. Not even a fair contest.

You have to realize that any outbreak of progressiveness tends to spread like cancer.
So progressives in NY ban soda, salt, trans-fats, etc. and it spreads first to other liberal states like California then by force of numbers it becomes defacto policy.
We've seen this before, this is the way of things, everything moves in the direction the progressives desire.
Slowly at first, sometimes rapidly, then preto-chango the progressives desires come to fruition and they move on to the next thing.

Fox has always been on the amnesty bus as well. First off, there is no single “Tea Party”. This is one CA group. And if they want to keep the Tea Party label prominent they need to stay out of things except what they were originally started for. And that is lower spending, lower taxes, and following the Constitution as written. When they start getting into this kind of shit they become just another political interest group.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Florence Harding was hotter than the First Wookie.
Sorry there was no story yesterday; we had some connection problems here at stately Poppins Manor. But I was asked about Myrna Loy. . .
Myrna Loy (born Myrna Williams) always wanted to be an actress, appearing in stage productions from the age of 15 on. Through the efforts of Rudolph Valentino's wife, Natacha Rambova, she was recommended for a small part in the movie What Price Beauty? Sadly, she lost out on the part she'd hoped for, being relegated to a walk-on, and the movie itself didn't get released until 1925. But, in one of those serendipitous happenings, studio shots of her in costume and makeup for Beauty appeared in a number of fan magazines, and her sultry, sloe-eyed beauty made her a hit with fans, who wrote numerous letters asking, "who's that girl?" Warner Brothers tracked her down, signed her to a contract and changed her last name to Loy.
Loy went through a long "Eurasian" period in her movie career, being cast as the exotic, man-eating vamp. Sometimes she was homegrown, as in her prtrayal of Morgan Le Fay in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court; at other times, she was cast as the licentious, cruel half-breed, "demurely coy and divinely cold," as in her portrayal of Boris Karloff's daughter Fah Lo See in The Mask of Fu Manchu - a portrayal I think catches our own Empress Alex to a T (except for the half-breed bit).
But it wasn't until Loy was paired with William Powell in The Thin Man series of films that she finally achieved - in her words - "overnight success after 80 movies." MGM chief Louis B. Mayer hadn't wanted Loy for the part, believing her to be mainly a dramatic actress. Director W.B. Van Dyke, however, had seen a number of Loy's movies and caught a sense of trickery and comedy behind her screen image. At a party, the two were discussing the proposed Thin Man movie when Van Dyke suddenly pushed her into a pool. When she came up gasping, swearing and laughing at the director, he knew she was perfect for the role of Nora Charles. Mayer only agreed to star her if the movie was shot in three weeks, since Loy was already scheduled to begin Stambou Quest at that time.*
The role of Nora Charles, like that of Rhett Butler for Gable or Professor Marvel for Frank Morgan, was the once-in-a-lifetime role that guaranteed screen immortality, and it's possible to enjoy every Thin Man film without ever having to watch another Loy movie. By 1937, she was on the list of top ten box-office draws, and in 1938, she was voted "Queen of Hollywood," as consort to Gable's "King."
Her last film with Powell was Song of the Thin Man in 1947, but she continued making movies, including the wonderful Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House and Cheaper By the Dozen, though at a much more sporadic pace than in the 1930s and 40s. Her last film was Just Tell Me What You Want in 1980. In 1991, she received an honorary Academy Award for her career achievements; her appearance on camera from her New York home was the last time she appeared in public. She died in 1993.
There really aren't any "stories" as such about Loy; she was the consummate professional, always on time, knowing her lines and ready to go, no matter how large or small the part. Even her affairs - reputedly with Spencer Tracy, Tyrone Power and Leslie Howard - were discreet and her own public and private images were spotless. In fact, I've only found one thing she said which rather disappoints me: during an appearance on a 1982 TV show, Legends of the Screen, she had this to say about a fellow actor:
"I never worked with Ronald Reagan. I'm not happy that he's President. I was willing to give him a chance. But he's destroying everything now I've lived my life for."
Well, even screen legends can be wrong once in a while.
And that's it for this morning. Now I'm off to grab a cup of tea and then head over to the DMV; my licensce expired yesterday without my knowing about it. At least I've got a copy of The Director's Cut to keep me entertained. Perhaps you should buy a copy and be entertained, too. Available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and now on Kindle.
Hope you all have a wonderful day.
*Mayer thought he'd tricked Van Dyke into an impossible promise, but the director wasn't called "One-Take Woody" for nothing. He made it with time to spare.

My great-grandmother had 11 children, you asshole.
Of course, she had them all by her husband, and they all worked a farm instead of demanding welfare. By the time the youngest was born, the oldest daughter (my grandmother) was grown and working for wages that she brought home, and the older sons were all working as hired men in addition to helping out with the farm.
There's nothing wrong with having a lot of a kids, per se. Having one kid and sucking the public teat for the next 18 years (...and then the kid does the same thing) is much worse than having 11 kids you can care for (...and then they grow up to be productive members of society, farmers and sailors and electricians, etc).

SoCal Gas prices spike as refineries switch to summer blend
Last month Southland motorists were worried about prices nearing $4 a gallon, but the region has blown past that mark and pump prices are still ramping up. On Friday the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Los Angeles-Long Beach region was $4.29 a gallon, up 12 cents from a week ago and up 55 cents from a month earlier.
California refineries are also in the middle of their switch from winter to summer blends.
Summer blend.
We have a winter storm warning today and the snow level is 1500 ft.
Summer blend.

Morning, all!
And GAH. For Pete's sake, Buzzfeed. Didn't I say weeks ago to leave the glossy paparazzi crap to TMZ?
And they wonder why no one wants to take them seriously as a political news outlet. Good grief.
(Also, Ronnie? Very hittable. And wow, Nancy was a looker.)
One thing I noticed that I find hilarious? They felt the need to circle Nixon in the picture they used for him. As if the fact that A) he's standing front and center and clearly the focus of the shot, and B) HE LOOKS LIKE RICHARD NIXON were not enough.

The Trail of Tears was under Van Buren, not Jackson, and I wouldn't exactly call it genocide, since killing off the Cherokee was not the intent.

FDR was a great wartime President, but a horrible President in all other regards. But since people in his day regarded him as their savior from the Great Depression they turned him into a secular saint. To this DAY he's still considered a saint by the Left. Ask anyone of almost any age to list their top five favorite Presidents from history and 9.5 times out of 10 you're going to get Lincoln, Washington and FDR in the top 3, with the only variation being the order in which they're listed.
Today's education on American history is so poor that a lot of kids just assume that, since FDR was elected FOUR times, that MUST mean he was a great President. They don't really seem to notice that almost immediately after he kicked the bucket we got the 22nd Amendment.

As with most things on the Left it's all about pretending to be something they aren't in order to proffer a false image of objectivity. "Sure we hate you, but we're an objective organization and we can pretend NOT to hate you for business purposes. You can't expect us to give you EVERYTHING, because we still hate you, even if we pretend we don't. You understand, don't you? Oh, and help yourself to some arsenic - I MEAN! - raspberry Kool-Aid when you get here. It's delicious."

When I say he was a great wartime President I mean that he actually wanted to win the war. Compared to most of the Presidents since then he was downright hawkish. That's one of the reasons I find it hilarious that today's regressive assholes, in all their pacifistic, "can't we all just get along" glory, still lionize him like a God.

As for worst presidents, I think you have to judge them by specific actions in office.
BJ Cliton belongs on that list too, for strengthening the CRA (which led to the housing crash) and for signing NAFTA (which gutted our manufacturing sector by moving to a service economy).
We sure know how to pick 'em.

Which is why I think Bammy already has the Peanut Farmer beaten on the "Worst Presidents in Modern Memory" list by a country mile. He's making quite the run at "Worst All Time," too. He's already left the Harding Administration in the dust in regards to sheer corruption. "Teapot Dome?" he says incredulously as he glances in the rearview mirror of the Obammy Bus. "I got Benghazi, Fast and Furious, and green energy boondoggles, baby!"

The South also invaded Ohio, and Vermont. Ohio got invaded a lot!
Migrant workers "as we know them" were a product of WWII. Somewhat like European students being a large agricultural workforce in the 1960's, city dwellers used to "vacation" by going to upstate NY as harvesters throughout the 19th century. Obviously this died off as the hops, vines, and chestnuts did, and as the concept of full-time employment became the norm. Every progressive idea -- including, since I'm on the subject, immigration control -- has an unintended consequence. The panicky 1965 quota bill was called "The Kennedy Act."

The era of the '30's, the news media and FDR are not unlike today.
Because of the disaster of the Great Depression, which Hoover's and then Roosevelt's policies actually made worse, the Republicans were the eternal whipping boys of the media (papers and radio). It really wasn't until late in the WWII years and afterwards that people finally were fed up with the Democrats. Truman won re-election in 1948, but the Republicans captured the Senate and I think they were close to taking the House.
Somehow we survived all that, but as my late mother said (who lived through those years) that we never came closer to having a dictatorship than under FDR. A lot of people that grew up in that era adored him (including Ronald Reagan), but he was a pretentious economic buffoon, who hurt millions of people with his bad policies.
Yes, FDR wanted to win WWII, but a lot of his wartime policies were cynical and counter productive. The wartime rationing and production boards were cronyism at the worst, all justified by "winning the war". My Dad was a WWII vet and "winning the war" and the years afterward were a great cynical awakening for him, as it was for a lot of men of his generation. He occassionally talked about how disillusioned he was after coming home when the war was over. He voted for Adlai Stevenson in 1952, but that was the last time he ever voted for a Democrat.
