Education Secretary Arne Duncan: Common Core Opponents Are Just "White Suburban Moms" Upset to Learn Their Children Aren't "Brilliant"
— Ace

Incredible -- and an undeniable mode of thinking among the self-professed elite.

Who are not elite, actually.

Obama and all his close appointees -- the people who sip from the same cup of Revolutionary Vanguard socialism as he does -- all believe this, and all say the same things.

They have no respect for the American voter. They believe the American voter is too stupid to participate in a democratic process supposedly conducted for their benefit.

Whenever the American voter disagrees with them, or objects to their grand plans, or has simple questions, or merely fails to support the Vanguard with sufficient fervor, they resort to the same tactic:

The deem opposition to be wholly illegitimate due to a lack of understanding or moral center, and quickly sneer off entire swathes of the population by reducing them to a derogatory social cliché.

How did Obama explain the blue-collar Democrats of Pennsylvania who preferred Hillary Clinton to himself?

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

He quickly reduced millions of voters to, essentially, the level of the mentally retarded and legally incompetent, people incapable of thinking or reasoning, whose actions and beliefs were motivated entirely by fear, hatred, superstition, and ignorance.

Millions of informed Americans -- informed Americans, I say, because the average Low Information Voter is certainly not objecting to the Department of Education's curriculum makeover -- have objected to Common Core.

In many cases, the objection is not that Common Core is too hard -- which is Arne Duncan's suggestion. Quite the opposite. Michelle Malkin, for example, objects to Common Core partly because standards are being undeniably lowered, not raised:

There’s no better illustration of Common Core’s duplicitous talk of higher standards than to start with its math “reforms.” While Common Core promoters assert their standards are “internationally benchmarked,” independent members of the expert panel in charge of validating the standards refute the claim. Panel member Dr. Sandra Stotsky of the University of Arkansas reported, “No material was ever provided to the Validation Committee or to the public on the specific college readiness expectations of other leading nations in mathematics” or other subjects.

In fact, Stanford University professor James Milgram, the only mathematician on the validation panel, concluded that the Common Core math scheme would place American students two years behind their peers in other high-achieving countries. In protest, Milgram refused to sign off on the standards. HeÂ’s not alone.

Professor Jonathan Goodman of New York University found that the Common Core math standards imposed “significantly lower expectations with respect to algebra and geometry than the published standards of other countries.”

Under Common Core, as the American Principles Project and Pioneer Institute point out, algebra I instruction is pushed to 9th grade, instead of 8th grade, as commonly taught. Division is postponed from 5th to 6th grade. Prime factorization, common denominators, conversions of fractions and decimals, and algebraic manipulation are de-emphasized or eschewed. Traditional Euclidean geometry is replaced with an experimental approach that had not been previously pilot-tested in the U.S.

ZeÂ’ev Wurman, a prominent software architect, electrical engineer and longtime math advisory expert in California and Washington, D.C., points out that Common Core delays proficiency with addition and subtraction until 4th grade and proficiency with basic multiplication until 5th grade, and skimps on logarithms, mathematical induction, parametric equations and trigonometry at the high school level.

Malkin objects that the curriculum is being dumbed down, not smartened up, but that's too difficult for Arne Duncan to rebut. So instead he accuses informed parents like Michelle Malkin of wanting to make the test dumber so that their kids can do better on it.

And beyond that, of course, Duncan is sneering at a huge number of Americans -- again, I stress, intensely informed Americans, not low-information dilettantes -- by reducing them to two badges of cultural shame:

1. White

2. Suburban

Can one imagine any instance in which sneering away opponents as "black and urban, so, [eye roll] you know..." would even occur to Arne Duncan, or be countenanced by the media?

But to sneer away opponents as being unfashionably "white" and "suburban" -- so sorry about our race, you know, but God fashioned us this way; and sorry, too, that we do not make enough money to live in the city and pay $30,000 per year for private school -- is just Standard Operating Procedure on the left.

Opponents are never merely wrong -- they are unworthy to even offer an opinion on the functioning of their own (once and future) democracy.

What the left intends is to remove more and more democratic decisions from the hands of the people and entrust them to socialist members of the New Class. They will achieve this in two ways:

1. By operation of actual law, or unilateral executive action, or permanent-government bureaucratic contrivance that forces certain policies upon an unwilling public, and

2. By socially shaming citizens from even daring to express opposition unless they are card-carrying socialist members of the New Class. The easiest opinion to fight, after all, is one that is never even expressed, but instead suppressed by the would-be dissenting individual, for fear of being shamed by the collective.

And that's the goal of Arne Duncan's statement here.

That's the goal of the New Class, generally: To remove more and more democratic functions from the actual demos, and deposit those formerly democratically-informed government functions in the sole and exclusive care of the Approved List of Officially Recognized (Politically Reliable) Experts.

This point is very important, I think. The Party of Government is insisting, increasingly angrily and loudly, that only "Experts" (again, from their carefully-vetted list of "Experts") are capable of offering informed opinions on the most basic functions of government.

Once they pretended to care about what the public believed. It seems so long gone now, but you probably can remember, if you try. In fact, it wasn't even so long ago. Before 2009, politicians did have to pretend to care what the public believed, and would pay a sharp penalty for the indulgence of demeaning the citizens whom they supposedly work for.

That's not the case any longer. They are increasingly brazen and upfront about their deeply-held belief that only they have the capacity for democratic ideation. Only those socialist-leaning members of the New Class have the intellectual capacity and moral enlightenment to participate in American democracy.

Everyone else may participate in one fashion: You can comply with your betters' expert, enlightened plans.

This is insidious. It corrodes the very notion of democracy.

It's also flat-out false, because the self-appointed experts are in fact almost always feckless mediocrities at best and venal incompetents at worse.

It's time for Americans to begin standing up and insisting, "No, this is a Democracy, and as Citizens, it is both our right and our duty to participate fully in it."

In another era, Arne Duncan would pay a price. But not in this era. Because the media, which would usually put a politician in the hot seat for such an anti-democratic and insulting confession of deepest belief, happens to be socialist-leaning members of the New Class themselves, and they agree fully with Arne Duncan.

We are losing America. And unless more Americans actually care about this fact, and begin behaving like Americans again, we will lose it forever.

Flashback: Speaking of Champagne Socialist members of the New Class, and their non-expertise and non-elite status: Ladies and Gentlemen, Matthew Yglesias' raucously amusing pre-Obamacare-launch prediction.

28 I'll say it again it bears repeating: I know teachers who hate the common core. But Duncan never talks about that. Relatedly, I listen to NPR as a "know your enemy" type thing. And I heard the craziest fucking thing on Monday. They're talking about the FDA trans fat ban, and guest quotes someone who says "The FDA is back with teeth." And they go on a bit and he says "It's good to have a regulatory agency not concerned with the political implications of their actions... He then goes on to talk about the ads that came out against Bloomberg and his soda ban. WTF?! We're not a democracy anymore, we're a monarchy of regulators.

30 This really speaks to why the Republic is doomed. More and more people *really believe* that the Leftists are right. They *really believe* that if the Left says, "Oh, it's fine. You're just too stupid to get it.," then, by golly, they're just too stupid to get it. "They" wouldn't be in positions of power if "they" weren't experts. More and more people *really believe* that only "experts" can know about health care. More and more people *really believe* that only "experts" can know about educating children. And so they're more and more willing to give up their own rights and responsibilities because "They" can run things so much better. Which, on its own, makes the rejection of Obamacare so incredible. These people were *primed* to believe, "Oh, if the Government couldn't do it, no one could," and yet the Dims screwed it up so badly that people are instead saying, "Dude, I could have done this in 1995 with a copy of FrontPage."

34 My kids are both in elem. school in OH, which is implementing Common Core (often referred to as CCSS - Common Core State Standards). It was adopted by an unelected state board. They had "open" hearings way back before anybody knew what it was, what it entailed, etc. The hearings were basically a rubber stamp affair featuring testimony from paid Common Core cheerleaders, there was no opposition. Now, to get rid of it, it has to go through the legislature. A bill has been introduced to repeal it. GOv Kasich has said he will veto [translation: check's been cashed]. From what I've seen, it sucks, especially the math.

42 I think it's in Solzhenitsyn somewhere. A joke from the Soviet gulag (and yes, the freezing underfed_zeks_ trapped in the gulag really did continue to make jokes even as the system slowly ground the life out of them).

"They tell us it's about 'scientific socialism'. But if they were really scientific about it, they would have tested the stuff on animals first."

Likewise, if the educrat crew were genuinely serious about improving education in a truly scientific way, they would insist on prototyping and testing, running pilot programs which competitively trialled more traditional programs versus "Common Core" or whatever other nonsense of the week they're pushing, to see what actually works better in practice.

That they insist on the immediate national top-down imposition of their untested, only theoretically justified model really should tell you all you need to know.

72 The name Arne Duncan reminds me of that old Norwegian daredevil, Ole Knudsen. He once jumped 20 barrels with a rototiller.

Posted by: Gristle Encased Head at November 20, 2013 01:02 PM (+lsX1)

73 It's why we have to tear down their credentials. Arne Duncan majored in...wait for it...sociology. He probably couldn't do division until middle school and likely never learned algebra. I agree with the mathematician on the Common Core panel. I mean, if you can't get math right, what the hell is the point of education reform?

74 At this point in my life I look around and realize I am constrained by a multitude of laws and regulations I disagree with, and no effective manner to engage to remove them politically.

There is no political party to represent me as the Republicans generally favor the current situation with a few tweaks and no way to opt out of the ever more heavy handed Leviathan.

It is depressed that I grew up in a mostly free country and am now a subject of an emerging oligarchy.

76 No, the Leftists always assume they are one of the anointed, it's all those others who need their guidance. They believe that until they get their 9 grams. Sadly... no, they don't. I can point to people in my own social circle as examples. More than one of them are relatives. The biggest example in my family is "Global Warming." They buy into whatever the latest rhetoric and believe that since I'm not a Climate Scientist (see how they restrict the range of "expert"), I can't possibly be informed on what the science says. When confronted by the fact that they aren't experts, and I actually pay attention to this stuff, they take pride in their ignorance with some variation of, "I'm not the one trying to second-guess the experts!" People do it about everything from education to guns to health and the list goes on.

Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) at November 20, 2013 01:02 PM (PYAXX)

77 More and more people *really believe* that only "experts" can know about health care. More and more people *really believe* that only "experts" can know about educating children. And so they're more and more willing to give up their own rights and responsibilities because "They" can run things so much better. {SNIP} Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) at November 20, 2013 04:54 PM (PYAXX) This is a perplexing thing actually. Because healthcare is big and complicated and hard to understand. Oddly though, unlike say a circuit board (which is also complicated and hard to understand) an expert is not the proper thing to apply. Because a circuit board is fairly free from chaos. Healthcare is not. Thusly the best thing to "control" it is, in fact, a market. Millions upon millions making individual decisions resulting in the best overall outcome. And we should know that, we accept it in other places But for some odd reason, with healthcare, we always default back to "experts." (Says the expert.)

79 Like much of Mr. Obama's agenda, this is meant to reduce us to racial demographics and pit those groups against each other.

The  fundamental essence of a community "organizer" is divisiveness. Understand that and you will understand everything Mr. Obama does.

I find it completely ironic and sad that people who voted for Obama based on "white guilt" or some type of perceived improvement in racial harmony that would suddenly be realized due to his skin color and the "history" of it all have received exactly the converse. That is, I've never seen people so divided along racial lines and income strata. In fact, I can't ever recall being more divided as a nation.

Ultimately that has zero to do with race. It has to do with an incapable, self-absorbed, untalented, bigoted, divisive person whose put their personal predilections over the good of an entire nation he is meant to serve.

85 I said it here yesterday, but it bears repeating: On parents' night, my daughter's Algebra II teacher said it is a VERY GOOD THING for the kids to be lost and not understand the problems. It was all I could do to not haul off and smack her smug fucking face. She was baffled that I didn't see the wisdom in having kids be frustrated until they suddenly and magically "learn." Moreover, the workbook is a joke, with errors that even I, an English major who hasn't done serious math since college calculus in 1989, could find. My favorite was the baseball traveling at 60 feet per minute. OTOH, TFG's Opening Day pitch for the Nationals would qualify for those types of speeds, so maybe they were thinking of him. Another thing that bears repeating, while I'm at it: Fuck these people.

93 I have been advocating the abolition of public schools here on AOS for several years.   It is the only way we will ever fix this shit.  It is a multistage process.

First the State legislatures must remove in references in their Constitutions to a State provided or supervised education.

Once that has been accomplished ALL public schools in the State will be shutdown within two years.  That to give time for parents to establish private schools.

The poor (real poor) in the State will receive vouchers to assist in sending their children to a private school.  Those students (and all) will be expected to pass their grades and behave or be expelled.

Special schools funded by the counties will be established for the incorrigible. (reform schools)  Trade schools will be established with internship in private industry at the HS level for those who are not academically inclined.

128 But of course when discussing Common Core, the elephant in the room isn't Democrats pushing dishonest schemes to prop up the bloated, corrupt, inept education-industrial complex.

The elephant in the room is No Child Left Behind, pushed by Republicans, who were complete idiots for having tried to "reform"  and redeem an utterly irredeemable system.

(Protip: if Ted Kennedy cheerfully endorses and energetically works on behalf of your legislation, it just might possibly not be conservative in nature.)

As proponents of NCLB explained it, the problem with the education-industrial complex is not that it exists, but that it lacks accountability. Which, they said, they would bring to bear. They would create Standards. There would be Feedback. The incompetent would be Fired.

I said at the time that their thinking was complete poppycock. I noted that the educrat establishment is a central armored fortress of the institutional left. One of their sacred bastions. That they would absolutely never, ever submit meekly to any imposition of accountability.

And that what would happen instead would be that as soon as the left got back in power, what they would do would be to push new "standards" with a suitably low bar so as to allow even the most unfit educrats to comfortably continue in their sinecures. While being afforded the new protection of cosmetic "accountability" for performance.

Which, mirabile dictu, is what has happened to the letter.

The only justifiable conservative stance vis-a-vis education policy is to make a brutally clear argument that Federal involvement in education has been a multidecadal disaster, costing a ton of money while actually lowering educational attainment. And that we need to get the federal government permanently OUT of the business of schooling.

The whole class read this book out loud during class. Everyone in the class had a copy of this book. This book was recommended by Common Core Curriculum. The following excerpt is taken from page 80: “Hugo and Felicia stripped in their room, dissolving easily into one another, and made love against the whitewashed walls. Hugo bit Felicia’s breast and left purplish bands of bruises on her upper thighs. He knelt before her in the tub and massaged black Spanish soap between her legs. He entered her repeatedly from behind. “Felicia learned what pleased him. She tied his arms above his head with their underclothing and slapping him sharply when he asked. “‘You’re my bitch,’” Hugo said, groaning. “In the morning he left, promising to return in the summer.” Here’s a photo of the passage:" ...etc. "“Dreaming in Cuban” is found on page 152 of this recommended list: PAGE 152 — Garcia, Cristina. Dreaming in Cuban. New York: Random House, 1993. (1992) — From “The Languages Lost: Six Days in April” Along with this information in Appendix B is a link to which teachers and students are to refer: Media Text — Portal to selected interviews with author Cristina García. By directing teachers and students to the interview with Cristina Garcia, it is easy to see that Common Core becomes basically a marketing tool to launch Cristina Garcia’s latest book – King of Cuba – which undoubtedly has more pornographic, raunchy, inappropriate, lascivious, prurient, and sexualized language in it." ...etc. Such exposés are cropping up every day. 153 90 The goal of dumbing down is to reduce the "achievement gap".

It's the same thing that happens when fire departments get sued for using tests on fire safety and knowledge for promotion. If too many whites pass it then the test gets "reformed" until everyone passes it and promotions are based on coin-flips, not merit. Posted by: Flatbush Joe

Yup.  My kids attended the Thomas Jefferson HS for S&T, here in lovely blue NoVa.  That school is the single best school in the nation, by any measure.  The local libs were upset that the school was mostly asian, and especially upset that there were very few black & Hispanics.  Naturally, we had to change the admissions to "holistic standards".  Meaning we'll admit whomever we please, with a guaranteed percentage of the aforementioned favored groups.

Bottom line: after implementing these "standards", they still couldn't significantly change the demographic makeup.

Another data point: the GT (gifted and talented, IOW smart) program in the elementary schools, implemented "holistic standards" as well, over the objections of us white, suburban parents.  They admitted a bunch of minorities that wouldn't have otherwise made it into the program.  You know what happened.  Kids who would have done well in their base schools had their psyches permanently damaged because they all flunked out.

But hey, we're the stupid ones.

158 Nearly every written test has an "achievement gap" because the avg black high school senior reads at the 8th grade level. If different segments of your employees have 4-5 grade differentials in reading ability, that tends to show up in written test results. The diversity consultant test reformers always do the same thing -- they have to dumb it down to the lowest common denominator. An A student and a C student can both read children's books equally well, that won't differentiate them. And non-differentiation is the goal.

Here in Washington we too got our common core via inaction by the state legislature. The superintendent of public instruction (he who was arrested for drunk driving yet still managed to keep his job and get re-elected) said that if the legislature did not act in the, I think it was the 2011 legislative session, on common core then he would unilaterally adopt it for the state. He then proceeded to get some Democrat cronies to keep it off any committee agendas for the legislative term and voila, now we have common core.

Common core is seriously destructive to public school education. Michelle Malkin has done a great job highlighting its failures. It is one topic that really unifies those on the right and the left and frankly Republicans would get votes by discussing how awful it is. But, here is the thing, Republicans themselves are making bank on common core implementations so they won't do it.

But let's look at the others, shall we? Roads- they aren't, but they're *supposed* to be paid by your gas tax. Water/Sewers- huh, I pay a special fee for those (plus garbage collection) every month. Fire/Police- We have this funny thing called a "sales tax" which mostly funds those. Also, in light of recent events, I'm not actually opposed to seeing police departments reduced in size and scope. The only "retarded" position here is the one that assumes, a priori, that getting rid of the property tax is necessarily a bad idea. It might still *be* a bad idea, but your current list of reasons is not compelling.

You really have to think about it now.  If you have aspirations, your kid will take the test in a few years, and they will go by faster than you can believe.  The Asian parents will have their kids in Saturday math cram classes.  Not saying that's bad, just that that's what you're up against.

My advice: be realistic.  If your kid is truly brilliant, he'll enjoy TJ far more than a regular school.  It is an Ivy League experience for free.  If smart, but not brilliant, he's far better off in his base school, but in the GT program and AP.  The competition will crush him.

245 You don't like property taxes? Don't move into a municipality with them. Easy peasy. Move somewhere with:

No roads

The road I live on is privately owned and maintained, but while we're on that subject...why exactly do I pay a car tax AND a gas tax then, not to mention registration fees?

No police

And we have state income taxes...why exactly?

No fire department

TN has some counties where you buy into fire departments, no buy in = the fire department shows up just to make sure the fire doesn't spread off your property. I see no problems with that.

No water
No sewers

Well and septic tank here.

No schools

My little shit gets private school, for all the good it's doing him (by his choice BTW, I'm a bit upset with him right now)...and besides, isn't the public schools what we were just talking about?

The problem with public schools is not their existence.  The problem is the liberals running them and the politicians who have organized them to the point where they can promise them exorbitant retirement packages in exchange for votes and GOTV efforts.

There is nothing wrong with the IDEA of public schools.. the implementations is what has got fouled up.

I have two Eastern European colleagues who gave up tenured positions in the US to go to Western Europe because American schools are so bad. That's the reason they left. For that we get a fire station in the development. No school. We pay for our own garbage pick up. We can not vote, since most of us are non residents. The county is 40% Black. 304 Instead of Common Core, they should concentrate on making high schools either a tech school or a college prep school. That's what Germany does. You see, our public school system was the old system Germany rejected. Now, the top ~30% go to gymnasium. The rest go to a general public school which is more like our public schools. And yes, they are more hierarchical and elitists. But rather than dim bulbs like Arne Duncan, at least their elitists deserve the title.

Speaking on Wednesday to leaders of multinational US firms, Kerry said the Islamist group had appropriated the revolt against Mubarak from young people who started it in large part through social media. Kerry said their use of web-based technology "drove that revolution." But then, he said, it "got stolen by the one single-most organized entity in the state, which was the Brotherhood." (AP) ??? 330 The manner in which vanguard Leftists tend to insult the Middle Class is quite interesting. The insults are always of a 'We hate you because you are too attractive, rich, successful, and intelligent i.e. superior and you're making the people about whom we really care (the "disadvantaged") look bad' variety. It is an insult which is almost flattering, and intentionally so. Middle-Class people tend to internalize it in a way ('we are superior, and they hate us because we are superior, and because they love the inferior, and therefore we should hate the inferior') which serves Leftism's kyrocratic interests.

The Diversity industry is such a racket.

Years ago I worked for an international company in DC and we had people from all over the world working side by side. Then there was in incident between a white female director (total beyotch) and an African American male manager (my awesome boss) involving racial slurs by the female director. He quits, and the entire company has to undergo "Diversity Training." So we have a room full of internationals (i.e. the personification of diversity) being lectured on essentially American black-white relations for two full days.

332 "Cuccinelli beat McAuliffe handily in the White Married Women demographic."

Republicans customarily do win that demographic.

What Cooch failed to do was to even come anywhere close to the percentage of the white married women vote that Romney did in VA in 2012. If Cooch had pulled those votes at Romney levels, he'd be Governor-elect.

Why? Predominantly so-con culture war against gays rhetoric.

There may have been a time in Virginia politics when candidates could talk about homosexuality being "contrary to natural law" (as Cooch said in just those words in 2009) and still win the votes of white married women.

That time is past. We're in the post-_Will and Grace_ era, and white married women predominantly think that gay-bashing is distasteful.

Back then there was a test when you were 11 y/o to determine if you went to Grammar school (for the college-bound) or Secondary school ( for the trade-bound), it actually worked quite well and there was ample opportunity for the late bloomer to transition into grammar school at 13 or at 16. My class was the last under this system when the Labour government decided to dumb down the system so that all school kids went to Comprehensive (there's that word again) school. The education standards in Britain never recovered.

370 And, of course, hating ideal forms/stereotypes/internal archetypes which are fundamentally divorced from reality and history and have been intentionally engineered to attract hatred is somewhat facile, and feeds all people's natural tendency and desire to hate and to feel like they are involved in some sort of conflict of great import. This leads to much internal social strife and so forth, always directed away from the upper classes, which therefore ends up allowing the upper classes to rule, secure in their "superior" position, by pitting the various lower factions against each other, or just watching them go at it. I knew a white kid who got an 80% scholarship to BYU because he chose NOT to check a box next to race. Explain how! OK, sure I will. He has a Hawaiian last name (I forget. Keloe or something?) and he's from Hawaii. He only had like a 3.4 GPA in HS. Because he didn't check the box they assumed. With that GPA he wouldn't have had ANY scholarship if they thought he was white. He might not even have gained entry.

Strange, huh?   And it wasn't but maybe 6-10 years ago there were rumors in the Big XII that Baylor should be kicked out of the conference for being such a weak link.

375 In my experience, it is easy to get seduced by the edu-speak of some educators of what they SAY they are doing. The proof is in the pudding. As centralized control of education has increased, has it made people smarter. I'm not so sure

376 ghost, I lost myself too. Basically, one of the things we were trained to do was how to make positive comments about common core. But the weird thing about our training was how hand wavy all the common core information was, it was all generalizations, nothing specific. Even when we tried to ask questions and get specific answers we just got the same vague answers.

377 Strange, huh? And it wasn't but maybe 6-10 years ago there were rumors in the Big XII that Baylor should be kicked out of the conference for being such a weak link. Football programs should only take five years to turn around with the right coach. You can turn a baseball team around in two.

378 >>> You don't like property taxes? Don't move into a municipality with them. Easy peasy. Move somewhere with: >>No roads We all pay state and federal taxes on fuel. Commercial vehicles pay an additional fuel tax. Then we add tolls for areas with bridges and toll roads. The roads in my neighborhood are built and maintained through HOA fees. Businesses pay franchise taxes. We all pay sales taxes. Get the accounting right on these, then come see me about more money. No police Sold. They do nothing anyhow. Worthless public union scum. Call a cop for a break in/ suspicious person/ rape/ assault... and wait for at least 4 hours... till they get done writing someone a $300 ticket for going 1 MPH over the speed limit and get done with their nap so that they can file the paperwork while getting overtime. I don't need them. Let's see how they get by without me paying for their lifetime benefits and telemarketing centers to beg for more money from me. No fire department Again, most are worthless public union scum. 3 words: Volunteer Fire Department. No water Two words: Water bill. I pay for every stinking (literally) gallon I use, plus... ooo!... more taxes! (Which, incidentally, cost more than my water usage) Keep it. The shit they pump in my house isn't potable, stains the crap out of my toilets, smells like ass in my shower, and ruins my faucets and dispenser on my fridge. In order to cook with it, I pay for an RO system. I'd GLADLY get a well... but guess what? I'd have to get a permit, pay MOAR taxes, and a bunch of other BS fees. No sewers Again: WATER BILL. Do you speak it? Water, sewer, (and in my case) trash are on the same bill. No schools Good. I don't have kids and I am tired of paying for more public sector union scum to indoctrinate my neighbors kids to hate me. I already pay for the worthies shits to eat, go to the doctor, and live under their welfare funded roofs. It's not as if they or their welfare case parents are ever going use the "education" I'm paying for to get a job... even if "education" would qualify anyone for a job anymore. You know what school taxes pay for? 12 vice principles, who each have 1-2 assistants. When I was in school, we had 1 principle, 1 vice principle, and 3 or 4 secretaries in the office who did all the work so those two worthless shits could go play politics all day. I'll keep my "school" taxes, thank you. If I ever have kids, I will send them to private school with that money. Can't afford school for kids... easy peasy. DON'T HAVE KIDS. You know the amazing part about not having kids- IT'S FREE. Doesn't even require $9/ month birth control (which I'm now supposed to pay for also) or Planned Parenthood or Medicaid or CHIP or any of that other shit. But they don't teach you that method in school. Instead, they give you "free" condoms, so that the worthless welfare shits can turn them into water balloons to throw at cars.

385 105 I agree with the mathematician on the Common Core panel. I mean, if you can't get math right, what the hell is the point of education reform? How can math compete with the things you truly need to know like how to put a condom on a banana and which oppressed minority is being honored each month? Posted by: no good deed at November 20, 2013 05:06 PM (k55Fc) Silly you, the 'knockout game" requires knowledge of biology, math and physics.

387 I highly recommend K12.com for anyone who is seeking to homeschool but is worried they don't have the proper background for it. All educational materials are provided and there are online courses Funded by $ that would otherwise go with my child to public school coffers (AZ allows this, varies by state)

They have no respect for the American voter. Dead on. Question is Why?

Hey what do you think the average communist party Hack in 1970's Soviet Union thought of the American Voter?

I suspect your average zampolit would fit right in with the current Whitehouse crew's mindset.

396 Not that anyone will read this since it's so far down in the thread...

Homeschooling two kids in California, and we're not doing the usual STAR testing this year because of the phase-in of common core. The problem many of us homeschoolers have, since we got to see some of the testing methods earlier than others, is that the fucking test is ridiculous. It's computer based and expecting my 2nd grader to trace things using a computer mouse rather than actually solve problems using pencil and paper. *shrug* Not that they give a damn about what we're actually teaching.

Notice the knee-jerk reaction of RAAAAcism.

Forget about acknowledging actual concerns of parents, the response is dismissive yellow-bellied cowardice. When you either can't or don't want to provide an argument for or against, run straight to the RAAAACE Card because....Liberalism!

Obama is either hiring outright RAAAAAcists to his Cabinet posts, or RAAAAAcism is POLICY!

Morons and 'ettes, I give you this from the pen of Joseph Schumpeter, one of the greatest economists who ever lived:

"The religious quality of Marxism also explains a characteristic attitude of the orthodox Marxist toward opponents. To him, as to any believer in a Faith, the opponent is not merely in error but in sin. Dissent is disapproved of  not only intellectually but also morally. There cannot be any excuse for it once the Message has been received."

These people are our blood enemies, just as the Imperial Japanese, the Nazi Germans and the Wahhabi Muslims are now. There is no reasoning with them: one either fights or one submits. If you're not one of them, they truly do think you are evil and they will have no qualms about using ANYTHING they can to get their way. Bill Ayers 25 million dead was probably a low estimate. That number doesn't frighten them in the least.

We ignore or underestimate these scum at our dire peril.

401 Division not even brought up until 5th grade???!!!??  Even in my backwards-ass Southern schools in the 1960s, we got into division by 3rd or 4th grade, dipped a toe in the waters of algebra by 8th, and studied Euclidean geometry by 9th or 10th.

Our students are already a year or more behind those in other countries.  This won't push 'em back by two years, it'll push 'em back by four.
