Election Day Morning News Dump
— Pixy Misa

Please be sure to get out and vote in your local, county and state elections. It is an off year election so turnout will be low. Your vote, as a percentage of the total votes cast today, will count more than it would in Presidential or House/Senate election years.

If you are voting in Virginia, remember the Libertarian candidate isn't really a Libertarian.

Follow me on twitter.

One of my favorite Japanese dramas had an episode in which Brazillian Wandering Spiders were heavily featured.  It took all my internal fortitude to watch that episode without hurling.

BTW,   I will shin  kick   absolutely anyone who posts a link to a picture of a Brazillian Wandering Spider and    lies about it by saying it's a pic of Karl Urban.   I am not a small person.      My shin kicks will shatter    bone.

Reminds me of my CA voting days! It wasn't a real election unless you had eleventy-seven "safe water," "better schools," "smoother highways" or similar money-grabbing issues to choose from.

I always wondered why the water wasn't "safe" after the billion-dollar bonds passed in the previous election. Never got an answer.

But I sure got tired of marking so many "no" boxes on every ballot. Which was definitely a minority opinion in that fucked-up state.

The only thing we ever "repealed" in my voting life there was Gray Davis. Fat lot of good that did....

38 Nobody is more furious at the God-Damned GOP than I am. But please DO vote for KC, no matter what else. This is the sort of guy we had in mind when the Tea Party took off in 2010. If you are a Virginian, you have a rare opportunity to contribute to a victory that *for once* won't be used against us. This is one of the very few people on any GOP ticket who has earned his Tea Party support. My fury at the GOP has kept me on the fence on KC, while continuing to damn the GOP from my comfy chair. Today, I envy Virginians who have a chance to contribute in a far more meaningful way. Vote Cuccinelli.

62 I just want to be absolutely clear, alright. So I don’t want any misunderstanding. When ya’ll go home and you’re talking to your buddies, and they say, “Ah, he wants to take my gun away,” you’ve heard it here... I’m on television so everybody knows it... I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.

Also, you can totally keep your health care plan and doctor.

Unfortunately you've grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that's at the root of all of our problems. Some of these same voices do their best to gum up the works. They'll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self rule is somehow just a sham with which we can't be trusted.

I promise.

The videos show Obama promising 300 million Americans that “if you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan, period.”

But thatÂ’s not what he really said, Obama announced Monday in a speech to about 200 Organizing for Action supporters, gathered at the St. Regis hotel in D.C.

I know it's not in the links up above, but just so we're clear, I'm going to get ahead of the MFM on this whole Richie Incognito imbroglio down in Miami.

While all the facts aren't known yet, I    want you    to keep the following in mind:

1) This is not a case of "bullying."   This is a case of harassment and abuse.   This goes above and beyond mere bullying.   This is the kind of    escalation   that happens when bullies don't have the shit beaten out of them in grade school.

2) The   MFM is going to say this happened because Incognito's a racist.   That's not true.   Incognito     is a racist.   He's also       a misogynist, a classist, an ageist, and every    other   -ist, guilty of every other -ism in the book.   That is because Richie Incognito is a grade A, first class, quintessential asshole.   His redeeming qualities, if he has any, are dwarfed by his negatives.   When he chooses to use a racial epithet against another person, it's not   JUST   because he's a racist;  it's because he's a hateful person.   Had   Johnathan Martin been lily white,   Incognito would have found some other slur to use against him.        He says and does these things because    he has been able to get through life based on his talent on the football field, and no one has smacked him down and taught him some g-ddamn respect.       He is the violent manifestation of the entitlement generation.

3) Lots of people are going to say Johnathan Martin wussed out by leaving the team instead of confronting    Incognito.   There's merit to that argument, but remember:   O-linemen are a close knit group.   If Martin went up again Incognito, he'd be going up against the entire rest of the O-line.  Incognito was clearly a mini-dictator, and    to many   it's better to be at the right hand of the Devil than in his path;   especially when doing so means you get all your meals and trips and extra goodies paid for by terrified juniors.

And furthermore, keep in mind that Incognito has been trouble pretty much everywhere he's gone.   He might be smaller than Martin, but as vicarious experience has taught me, size means nothing when you're fighting crazy.

I don't know what my opinion is of Martin in this whole situation, but Incognito has just reaffimed what I've thought of him since he first came on the scene:   he's a fucking bastard who should have    been kicked out of football in high school, let alone college.

Any money in your HSA account that is not used during a calendar year is rolled over to the following year, so this means your account balance can grow over time. This is one of the primary benefits of an HSA when compared to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

...Mitch McConnell has decided to embrace the same strategy in his war against the Senate Conservatives Fund. He canÂ’t attack the Jim DeMint created Senate Conservatives Fund outright, so instead he will launch an all out war against anyone who does business with the Senate Conservatives Fund.

This story, from the New York Times, is intriguing. McConnell has demanded, via the National Republican Senatorial Committee, that anyone who wants GOP support stop hiring Jamestown Associates. The organization is used by a number of Republican elected leaders and candidates. In fact, Senator Ted Cruz uses Jamestown Associates. So does Governor Chris Christie. For that matter, Senators Marco Rubio, Roy Blunt, Mark Kirk, Dan Coats, and Pat Toomey have all benefited from Jamestown Associates.

132 I've long said: If we really want to find out whether the Republican elected are serious when they say that Obaaamacare is unconstitutional then we need to ask them:
Will you support a law that says "No resources of the state of _______ shall be used to enforce any provision of the ACA in any way."

Basically, it means denying the federal government the use of the state's courts, law enforcement and facilities, etc.

Further, tax liens and foreclosure sales will be null as they cannot be recorded.

The Supreme Court is not "of the people, by the people and for the people." It is just a part of the government.

It is not the final arbiter of what is constitutional and what is not, we are.

If there's one positive that I can see coming out of this Obammycare debacle, it's that it will    create a shift in the healthcare industry away from    accepting insurance for every ailment and towards a pay-per-service model, with the insurance kept for its original purpose:   catastrophic coverage.      We're already seeing these "cash only" medical   practices spring up all over the place, and I hope that continues to grow.

152 Our local elections today are for mayor and city council. Sadly, there are not very good choices. The incumbent council members will likely win, which is awful b/c they've overseen some disastrous bonded projects and want to increase taxes. But the opposition folks are, for the most part, coming off as not offering any solutions as well as tin-foil hat types. The mayoral candidates have aligned with the two camps, but at least the "outsider" candidate seems like a rational guy. It'll be a waste, I'm sure, but I'll vote for the outsider mayoral candidate and two non-incumbents for city council. There are three slots but I refuse to vote for any incumbent, nor will I vote for a loon. Even more frustrating, there were no debates.

155 From theBlaze: A major Democratic Party benefactor and Obama campaign bundler helped pay for professional petition circulators responsible for getting Virginia Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Robert C. Sarvis on the ballot — a move that could split conservative votes in a tight race. Campaign finance records show the Libertarian Booster PAC has made the largest independent contribution to Sarvis’ campaign, helping to pay for professional petition circulators who collected signatures necessary to get Sarvis’ name on Tuesday’s statewide ballot. Austin, Texas, software billionaire Joe Liemandt is the Libertarian Booster PAC’s major benefactor. He’s also a top bundler for President Barack Obama. This revelation comes as Virginia voters head to the polls Tuesday in an election where some observers say the third-party gubernatorial candidate could be a spoiler for Republican Ken Cuccinelli.

The last Bishop would call ministers right away and pray with them when he learned that clergy were going in for operations or if their relatives had died. He obviously asked the people who worked for him to be aware of those situations. I thought that was very pastoral of him.

As I put it on Facebook last night, "It's not a race thing, it's an asshole thing". Incognito's been trouble at Nebraska and Oregon for college, St. Louis in the NFL, and now Miami in the NFL, so it's not like this is an isolated incident. Also, his father had been getting on the Dolphin fan boards and defending his son hard while trashing Martin repeatedly. As I have said about this guy before, "It looks like the asshole doesn't fall far from the tree in that family."

164 I just want to be absolutely clear, alright.

I promise.

165 If there's one positive that I can see coming out of this Obammycare debacle, it's that it will create a shift in the healthcare industry away from accepting insurance for every ailment and towards a pay-per-service model, with the insurance kept for its original purpose: catastrophic coverage. We're already seeing these "cash only" medical practices spring up all over the place, and I hope that continues to grow. Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Assault Hobbit Chelsea at November 05, 2013 09:50 AM (4df7R) I agree. It has long been my belief that the primary factor driving the excessive cost of medical treatment is "insurance." White House Blog post from 2009:

"Scary chain emails and videos are starting to percolate on the internet, breathlessly claiming, for example, to “uncover” the truth about the President’s health insurance reform positions.

For the record, the President has consistently said that if you like your insurance plan, your doctor, or both, you will be able to keep them. He has even proposed eight consumer protections relating specifically to the health insurance industry."

222 Fairly low turn-out at the polls this morning in the Falls Church area, less then 2010 for which I did the AM shift at that location.  (In 2012 I was elsewhere)  Low turnout is good, the Sarvis guy didn't post.  I was looking forward to asking him wtf.

Have to see how it goes.

So now the Obamanation knows the Pres lied, because last night he told them so.  There shouldn't be any confusion that he is still lying too, even when he explains his past lies.  Democrats who think there is a single "moderate" bone in his body are nuts--  this guy is a statist, technocratic facist.  Plain and simple.

233 I live in Virginia. After voting, this is what I thought about. One of the keys to democracy as we practice it (yes, I know, I took civics in HS so I know its a republic stick with me) is that you have to accept defeat. That is what makes it work. The winning part is easy. Everybody gets that. Accepting a loss is the hard part. Things have been really wonky since the 2000 election. There was no acceptance of defeat. And this is what is wrong with the Republican Party. The real issue with Cuccinelli is within the Republican Party. Virginia is quite capable of electing a conservative. Bob McDonnell won by almost 20 points 5 years ago. First, McDonnell had an issue with perceived corruption - yes, it was mostly made up but then he handled it poorly, and he should have avoided it altogether to begin with. His bad handling helped damage the Republican brand in the and the office of the AG - who is Ken Cuccinelli. Second, McDonnell's LT Governor, Bolling, thought it was his turn. There was an intraparty fight over how the next candidate would be selected. The process was changed in a way that favored Cuccinelli. And there was a LOT of butthurt about it. Bolling lost, and he played the spoiler for a long time, holding out the possibility of an independent campaign. Eventually, he folded, but his supporters have withheld support for Cuccinelli. This seems to be a pattern within the GOP - an insurgent gets knifed in the back. Now, I suppose you could say, just desserts, as they were knifing someone in the back by being an insurgent. But that reverses the issue of democracy. It is about who selects our candidates. Look at Murkowski, Scozzafava, Castle, etc - people who do not accept defeat. This is the problem.

234 My cat once tried to eat a wasp and got stung in the tongue. He went flying across the room on three legs, swiping at his mouth with the other paw and howling pitifully. I wasn't sure what the hell had happened till I investigated the area he had run from, saw a soggy dead wasp and put 2 and 2 together. I had to watch his face for a couple hours, because if it swells you have to get them to a vet right away. But he was fine. He got the stinger out himself by licking a scrap of rough 2 X 4 that was lying on the floor from a home-improvement project I was in the middle of. Lucky he didn't get a tongue sliver to go with his stinger. Smart and tough little guy. He passed a couple years ago.

296 I just wanted to echo what someone else said: There are still the true-believers of the leftists who really think that the Obaaamacare website will be fixed soon and it really will work like promised.

Hell, there are still many out there repeating the "CBO scored Obaaamacare as neutral to positive effect spending" lie.
How can they get to that one?

'Cause they're fucking stupid as hell, that's why.

They are so fucking stupid that they think the uninsured who show up at the emergency room for care force the federal government to pay for their bill.

But here's what anyone who lives in the real world and owns their house knows: There's a line on your property tax bill, and it's for your local hospital district. Guess what that money is for?

It ain't for building a fucking new hospital, that's for sure.
It. Is. To. Pay. For. The. Uninsured.
Local taxes pay for the uninsured, not the feds.

No fucking clue, these guys.

Nevermind that the CBO score was for a vapor-bill front-loaded with 4 years of taxes before a dime was spent in benefits. Or that it was forced to double-count the $700 billion stolen from Medicare. Or all the other outright deceptions used to get the "score" they wanted. Or even the fact that the CBO is stacked with leftist toadies eager to make the JEF look good.

I have absolutely no problem with honey bees either. I will say that wasps do eat spiders. That's the only good thing about them.

As for the banana spiders...

I told my son when he was about 6 that banana spiders actually became bananas. They look a lot like orb spiders - you know, the big ones that are yellow on the back - and they live in banana trees. When they die, they pull their legs together underneath them, dangling down, and a mold grows from their back (from the yellow part) and covers them as they turn into a banana. (This works best if you peel a banana as you describe it, showing them what's left of the spider body at the very top - the little black bit right at the stem - and then cut it crosswise and show them the legs - the little black lines that run down the center.)

It took him a while to figure out if he should believe me on that one. But it didn't stop him from eating bananas.
