— DrewM Everyone says they were framed, apparently some are.
The Mississippi man charged with sending poisoned letters to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a state judge was released from jail on Tuesday, federal official said, though the reason for the release wasn't immediately clear.Jeff Woodfin, chief deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Oxford, Miss., said suspect Paul Kevin Curtis has been released from custody, though Woodfin said he doesn't know if there were any conditions on the release.
...
"The searches are concluded, not one single shred of evidence was found to indicate Kevin could have done this," McCoy told reporters after the hearing Monday.
[His lawyer Christi] McCoy also questioned why Curtis would have signed the letters "I am KC and I approve this message," a phrase he had used on his Facebook page.
McCoy said in court that someone may have framed Curtis, suggesting that a former business associate of Curtis' brother, a man with whom Curtis had an extended exchange of angry emails, may have set him up.
Looks like this case is going as well as the Anthrax case from 2001 did.

No really.
All I heard first was initial tests followed by some inconclusive tests.
If this guy writes a lot of letters and there's a high "false positive rate" is it possible he just got screwed by chance and an over reaching police force?

No high tech lab like Anthrax needed. Time to ban caster beans if one can make deadly toxin by just grinding them. And just how toxic are the grinds. When pure it take a grain the size of a salt but if it was crude you might considerably more. It would leave a huge mess that you most likely poison yourself when making a sandwich as you missed a drop of powder on the table.

Her involvement was earlier when she said (with zero knowledge) "We've arrested someone, he writes a lot of letters" as if letter writing to your elected officials was some sort of indication of a crime.
I made jokes in thread about it that based on that (and how often I've offended Claire Bear, so much so that I once got a personal phone call from her) I should suspect helicopters any moment.

The vast majority of arrests and convictions are based on circumstantial evidence. In this case, the fact that the letters contained a tag-line used by the guy in the past meant that he was definitely linked to the letters (though apparently the link is that someone's trying to frame him). And his mental state means that something like this is somewhat more believable than if "average guy" was fingered for it instead.

They got a tentative positive on the letters (supposedly), saw a "KC" on them, looked up people with those initials who live near the letters' origin, showed the Senator's staff their list of K.C.s, somebody said "That one's familiar," and Elvis was arrested and charged.
Compared to the average investigation, that's a Sherlock Holmes story.
The thing that was supposed to happen and didn't is the part where the terrified prisoner "cracks under interrogation" and confesses to every open case in town.

I pay my own bills, take care of my people and am a net gain to my community. There goes 'submissive' and 'loser.'
Now, let's get into some opinions: Coming in here with the sole purpose of stirring the pot, picking fights and being a general pain in the ass is childish and weak. You've not swayed a single individual on a single topic, and even with this knowledge, you continue to leave comments which are the equvilant of keying cars and leaving flaming bags of shit on front porches.
You leave nothing of value and provide nothing but annoyance, poll-tested phrases and worn out, debunked arguments.

why is sending raisins illegal? Raisins are a great food. Little, teeny, tiny, shriveled grapes. You can stick them in stuff too. Like cookies. But tell people cause if they are expecting a chocolate chip and get a raisin they get mad. real mad. maybe people don't like getting surprise raisins in the mail either. maybe this guy sent raisins to someone who didn't like 'em. That'll get you arrested. Illegal raisin mailings.

The guy's... interesting...
iirc, he's been complaining about bias by the press in support of liberals. iirc, he wrote something about the fact that the press has essentially ignored some known nude pics of Obama's mother, but would have gone into a feeding frenzy if something like that had existed for Romney's mother.
So while he's a Dem, and he's clearly not entirely stable, he's also not drinking the same Kool-Aid as the other libs.

First, and most important, I hate you both. Secondly, story time! So. At my old office, I was the first step IT person so whenever we had server issues, I went back to check on them before we called the outside IT people. One day, a couple of servers were down for no apparent reason so I decided to start with step one: are they plugged in. There were other people in the server room with me because idefk. I'm wedged in behind the server rack when I very calmly said "Hey, guys? Remember when the pest control people were here and said we didn't have rats? They lied." I get "oh okay" in response at which point I began yelling "Get me out and get me a box!" The lackwits with whom I worked were all calm down why do you need a box. Apparently, I was being too subtle about the whole there was a rat hissing at me thing.
Did you know that your boss gets really really really mad if you ask if you can set the building on fire, just in case there's more? Some people, sheesh.

I told him that they get their "news" from idiots like those two and their weather by asking a real adult, "Hey what's the weather going to be like today?" The only internet-related thing they know how to do is use social media. People act if that is some kind of magical skill.

Don't get me wrong. I'd never call the guy a brother in arms. Just because a guy agrees with you on a high profile issue doesn't mean that he should be hand-waved through on everything else (as I used to remind people when Joe Leiberman was a topic of conversation).
But he does have some legitimate complaints about the current state of affairs. And despite the fact that he's a Democrat, those complaints could, theoretically, lead someone as unbalanced as him to try to poison the President.
That doesn't appear to have actually been the case (which I'm kind of happy about, actually), but there's enough there to reasonably think that it's possible.

Btw, totally laughing with you, not at you.
So story time for me. I've been told this one a thousand times. So pretty much everyone in my family has a serious issue with snakes. My dad was a kid and one night he, my grandparents and my grandfather's best friend are sitting at the table just shooting the shit when "OMFG a snake!!!!!!!!" My grandmother and my dad are rushed to the bathroom where the door is shut and a towel shoved in at the bottom. My grandfather and his friend are walking around up on the counter tops trying to see where the snake is in the kitchen. It's up against the cabinet. "Now what are we going to do?" "I got it." and grandpa's best friend pulls out a revolver and is, very shakily, pointing it in the general direction of the snake. In a kitchen with tile floors and tile countertops. "FUCK NO BOBBY!!! Stop!!! Jesus man, you'll kill us all!"
They eventually managed to use a broom to shoo the deadly garden snake out the door.

I remember our NOC was trying to chase down a random outage at one of our sites- happened about twice a week in early evening

We had one a while back. Every week on the same day at the same time, we'd lose part of our network. The network guys couldn't figure out what was going on.
Turned out that there was a weekly meeting in one of the conference rooms, and one of the guys there was inadvertently plugging the network into itself (i.e. hooking up a direct connection between two different network outlets in the room) whenever they held the meeting.

Sounds like the urban legend story, later recounted in Dilbert, claiming that the reason for the company's downtime was that high-level execs were having meetings in the server room and were unplugging the equipment because it was making too much noise.

At one company I worked for, a 100k sq ft warehouse with about 60 employees on the network was shut down for hours because someone plugged an air compressor into the same plug as the router. Popped breakers on the AC circuit AND the router itself. The IT guys found the popped breaker when they were halfway through replacing the router.
