Danny Creamer, 21, and Gina Allan, 18, spend each day watching their 47in flatscreen TV and smoking 40 cigarettes between them in their comfy two-bedroom flat.It is all funded by the taxpayer, yet the couple say they deserve sympathy because they are “trapped”.
They even claim they are entitled to their generous handouts because their hard-working parents have been paying tax for years.
The couple, who have a four-month-old daughter Tullulah-Rose, say they can’t go out to work as they could not survive on less than their £1,473-a-month benefits.
The pair left school with no qualifications, and say there is no point looking for jobs because they will never be able to earn as much as they get in handouts.
We can pour moral scorn on them, but they'll ignore the moral scorn and just keep taking the $2400 per month (or whatever) benefits.
If you're paying someone to do a job, they're going to do that job, because they have to do that job to stay alive. Moral scorn won't deter them. And in this case, England -- and the US, too -- is hiring people to sit in their apartments and collect checks from taxpayers.
And so they're going to keep doing that job, aren't they?
Even Bill Maher noted this, in his inimitable style (by which I mean not funny, and also not perceptive). And yet, he still finally got around to wondering that if we continue escalating benefits for the nonworking, gee willickers, doesn't that mean the working will have to pay a lot more?
Solvency, generous government benefits, a social order that no longer penalizes people for engaging in costly behaviors they can't pay for, but rather encourages them to do what thou will: Choose any two.

The real reason unemployment is coming down: extended unemployment has been reduced by a lot of the states. Lots of people have used up their 99 weeks and have gone back to work.

I know people like this. When you closely examine their lives, they are almost always.....scum. And I am related to a couple by blood and a couple more by marriage. My wife has a cousin who was injured "in the line of duty" as a fireman decades ago, and he has ridden that disability to a pretty good life. It gets hard to put up with him now, that he is over 65 and having weight problems and needs knee surgery. And he loves him some Obamacare. Worthless parasite.
It's tragic to watch children born into this. A big clue to the terrible social pathologies that are a big part of the Inner City life for Black kids. It's amazing that any of them ever make it out of this trap.

FDR did as much or more damage, but at least he had the flimsiest of excuses that the country was in a Depression, not that his policies didn't make it worse. LBJ was President during the most robust period of growth the country had in the second half of the 20th century, and his policies led directly to the doldrum and stagnation of the 70's.

FWIW, I have a friend (who might be reading this now!) who was telling me the other day that one of his friends (whom I also know through him.) was unemployed.
He was looking for work but the job market had crashed during this time (this was like the 08-10 period somewhere in there.)
So he was collecting unemployment at like 80% of what he was making prior to the crash. He got offered a job for $11/hr or so and turned it down. Because unemployment paid more.
Last I asked I think he was still unemployed but by now even the 99 weeks has run out for him. So at least reality gets the last laugh.

Good grief! I just read the link about Angel Adams Welfare Empress (I think "Queen" doesn't suffice). On the one hand, 10 of her 15 kids were from the same dad.
I did find the irony in this sentence quite rich:
"Three of the children were no longer living with her when we first met her, because they were above the age of 18 and no longer eligible for government benefits..."
So when the kids turn 18, she boots them out because she can't get any money for them any longer. Smart lady! The adult children are a drain on her finances at that point. Gee, maybe if the government stopped paying unwed mothers benefits every time they pop out a kid, they would stop having them!

Does anyone here read John Ringo? Specifically, has anyone read his book "The Last Centurion"? I was skimming through a collection of (legal) Baen free books and stumbled across this one. The plot is more or less non-existant (it's more of a "travelogue" for the setting he provides than an actual plot).
In short, a really nasty version of the flu causes a world-wide epidemic. Even with flu shots (many of which are mishandled, and there aren't enough to go around to begin with), there's a 20% fatality rate in those parts of the world that manage to keep the deaths low. Then, contrary to the screaming of all of the global warming nuts, the Earth chooses that year to start its decent into a new mini-Ice Age (not as in "glaciers in Montana", but a lot of prime Midwestern farmland suddenly gets colder than expected). And the President of the United States is a thinly veiled expy of Hilary Clinton with a Democratic congress supporting her in power as she slowly starts to crack. But ignore the character's gender, and she'd probably make an even better stand in for TEH WON.
The reason I mention it is that Baen makes the first several chapters of their books available for free on their website (the book in its entirety can be downloaded for free from the Fifth Imperium website), and reading it might provide at least a little bit of therapy for some of the LIB folks here.

Most of this work is done in a lab in the city. It's a 9-5 job, except that in busy periods they may run a night shift. Usually involves preparing cores, or heavy oil sand samples, etc. There may be some similar work available in North Dakota or Montana, too. Wherever there is a boom in oil and gas drilling, there is going to be work in the support industries. And drilling, where not being blocked by greentards, is very busy right now.
