POLITICO reporting administration is completely pulling the plug on online enrollment for small businesses in 2014. Can't get it to work.
— Brendan Buck (@BrendanBuck) November 27, 2013Politico article here. Repeal this rolling calamity of destruction. It's actually going to hurt people.
The left loves to talk about the extremism and fanaticism of the Republican Party. This law is extreme. The left's devotion to this catastrophe is indeed, fanatical. Enough.
Added: Wonky political commentator mystified by timing of this announcement.
I donÂ’t really understand the logic of dumping this kind of bad news on holiday weekends.
— Ezra Klein (@ezraklein) November 27, 2013Yeah, Ezra. It's a God damn mystery.

Yep... I want them to suffer. I will feast upon their tears. And if my ultra lib brother, sister or mother have their life savings decimated and are forced to live in a box... I will laugh even harder when they come to me for help, as I slam the door in their face.

From Africa the winds they talk of changes coming
The torches flare up in the night
The hand that sets the farms alight
Has spread the word to those who're waiting on the border
In the village where I grew up
Nothing seems the same
Still you never see the change from day to day
And no-one notices the customs slip away
Late last night the rain was knocking at my window
I moved across the darkened room and in the lampglow
I thought I saw down in the street
The spirit of the century
Telling us that we're all standing on the border
In the islands where I grew up
Nothing seems the same
It's just the patterns that remain
An empty shell
But there's a strangeness in the air you feel too well

After I tweeted about it, I immediately got a call from a Kustomer Kare Reprentative. Apparently it's being done for "our own good" and they'll choose what they think is best based on what they think each of needs! And subsidies will apply too. Hmm, I wonder how this will work?
I asked the rep what if I didn't want their POS policy and he said, no worries, then I should just not pay the bill when it comes. Free healthcare! And I guess they aren't charging the feds for this, right, they're doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, right? He said they're doing this because they don't want anyone to end up with no coverage on Jan. 1st because they couldn't enroll. Isn't that sweet? No ulterior motive, no administration involvement or pay-off, I'm sure. Just the milk of human kindness.

The media will report the success of the IPAB and how much money was saved by denying worthless sub optimal treatment for someone who was just going to die anyway. Then there will be a movement to fund those 'hospice' treatment centers where you go to die, where you don't get treatment, but everyone really cares about you as long as those federal funds keep coming in.

Also isn't nice that those nice union cadillac plans will be exempted from a tax because they are considered self insured plans.
The administration is using the cover that this is not for the benefit of the unions because it applies to all self insured / administered plans. It just so happens that the largest unions utilize a plan that would fall under this exemption. How convenient.

in case you post another comment, recommend a couple of lesser known but great film classics available online
If you haven't seen The Artist, I highly recommend it. Not just because it's a modern silent, but it's got a happy ending, which seems to be rare these days.
I mentioned One, Two, Three with Cagney on another thread; I'd also recommend Bombshell with Jean Harlow, Only Angels Have Wings with Cary Grant and Jean Arthur, Ball of Fire with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck, Julia Misbehaves with Greer Garson and The Emperor Waltz with Bing Crosby and Joan Fontaine (one of my fave flicks). I don't know if they're all on line, but one or two ought to be.
Happy viewing!

Someone they're doing this to should go to court right now and try to get an emergency stay. The law says each of us gets to choose to pay a tax OR buy a policy, and BCBS is blatantly obstructing this choice. Too bad there's no conservative version of ACLU for lawfare.

Caught that sycophantic cock-weasel Juan Williams on Hannity last night. Was insistent the Republicans are the party of destruction, Tucker wasn't having it, more or less told Williams, "We didn't build this" we don't have to fix anything. Had to chuckle.

But, differently from Bush, who kept his cool, they did not budge, and appears did not give two shits whether the opposition "liked them" or not. Which seems to be a driving motivation for our "conservative champions" these days.

I just saw Drive with Ryan Gosling . How come no one here told me this was a half decent movie? I like it though when I come across a recent movie that I had not seen that turns out to be pretty good.
Also another good Ryan Gosling movie that I happened to come across by accident that was really good. Lars and the Real Girl.

Next up in the batter's box, 401(k)s and IRAs, which have allowed those dirty, rotten, selfish Middle Class folks to accumulate wealth for themselves and their heirs--once again cutting out the faceless bureaucrats and apparatchiks. Doubt me? Clinton had a plan to seize that money and pay everyone an annuity, a very low yield annuity to be sure--along the lines of we will seize your $500,000 and pay you $600-800 a month.

Word.
As Thomas Sowell recently put it:
"Those who want to “spread the wealth” almost invariably seek to concentrate the power. It happens too often, and in too many different countries around the world, to be a coincidence. Which is more dangerous, inequalities of wealth or concentrations of power?"

.I drive by the Amazon fulfillment center in Lexington, KY almost every day. Since about the first of November the parking lot there has become more and more crowded with workers cars. In the last two weeks Lexington police close the road at shift change time because the traffic is that bad. There must be at least 1000-1500 people a shift there and they are running 24/7 for the Holidays.

- Crow T. Robot, MST3K episode "Giant Spider Invasion"
Happy 25 anniversary to MST. By the way, there's a special old-fashioned Turkey Day marathon happening tomorrow online, hosted by the one and only Joel Hodgson. Link in my nic.
I meant to mention in this week's "Roadhouse" thread-- and apologies if someone else did so, but I was trapped in a shitty hotel with shitty wifi-- that "Roadhouse" was one of the most-requested movies of MST3K. Of course they couldn't get the rights, so they immortalized it instead with a classic host segment song called "Patrick Swayze Christmas," which included the lyric, "It's my way or the highway, this Christmas at my bar/I'll have to smash your kneecaps if you bastards touch my car."
Years later, when Michael J. Nelson started Rifftrax (podcast riffs of movies, which meant the rights issue was no longer a problem), he knew that "Roadhouse" had to be the very first movie he took on. The result is hilarious and you can download it at Rifftrax.com.
But yes, a movie so beloved and entwined in the American psyche that IT NEEDS TO BE REMADE.

Vic is right -- nothing will stop the Democrats.
And while it's fun to jeer and pass the popcorn this really isn't that big of a deal:
Small businesses, which have been able to apply for exchange coverage by paper application since Oct. 1, will have alternative sign-up methods, HHS announced Wednesday. Those looking to enroll through small business exchanges, known as SHOP, can sign up through an agent or broker or directly through an insurer.

"The left's devotion to this catastrophe is indeed, fanatical."
The Left isn't giving up or admitting defeat, not on this or any other issue. They'll view the disastrous Obamacare rollout as a tactical defeat but the essential strategy will remain in place. The strategic goal of the Obama Administration has been (and remains) the ideological transformation of the United States from center-right to left-liberal; i.e., from traditional free market-favoring representative republic to the equivalent of the Eurostyle 'soft' socialism represented by political parties such as the Christian Socialists or Social Democrats. Once that shift is accomplished, there would be nowhere to go but even further Left. Such a shift would also cement the Democratic Party as the majority national party for, well, ever. If it helps, imagine the country as one big giant Chicago. Or Detroit.
Besides, the Left has spent decades marching through the insitutions, acquiring power one excrutiatingly slow, incremental step at a time. You think they're giving it up as the result of a free and fair national election? I don't. I think the fix is in and it doesn't matter how badly Obama flounders or the Democrats flail. The only close elections will be those close enough to allay suspicion. It's the Chicago Way.

That was the plan, but you weren't supposed to find it out so soon.
So, I've decided to merge my cash for clunkers and the auto industry bailout, and call it 'BroncoBamaCars'! I promise that if you like your car, you can keep your car -- but all cars must now meet the Bronco Bama Seal of Approval. So, starting today, all cars sold in the US must be green, orange or yellow, they all have to have safety cow catchers on the front instead of bumpers, they have to run on biofuel from BroncoBama fuel stations, they have to have 3 built-in child safety seats for children up to 26 years of age, and they all have to be purchased online through the yet-to-be-built BroncoBamaCars.gov website.
Now, I know what you're thinking! You're saying to yourself -- hey, this is great! Sure my payments will be higher, and so will my fuel costs, but I'll be getting a Better Car, full of things I don't need! If only I can get on the website to buy one. So, to make it easier for you to make this decision, we are also offering unlimited weekly fines through the IRS for anybody who doesn't buy my cars!
Isn't this wonderful of me?
