— DrewM Towards the end of his often contentious testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee Eric Holder went where no grown man shouldÂ…whining about a lack of respect.
"This isn't always a pleasant experience," he says, referring to Hill testimony. "I don't feel like I've always been treated with respect. It's not a personal thing... but I'm the attorney general...
A couple of things about this.
Hey Eric, which part of “co-equal branch” don’t you get? Members of Congress don’t owe you any respect, personally or for your office. You’re a political appointee heading an executive department that was created by Congress and they can do away with it if they collectively want to.
Unlike the people you are complaining about you were not elected by the highest authority in this country, We The People. In fact, your position isn't even a constitutionally mandated one.
Why exactly should anyone in the House treat you with respect? Are you forgetting that little matter of being held in “Contempt of Congress”? They hold you personally in contempt Eric. A lack of respect is implied.
And let us not forget that lack of respect is a two way street Holder knows all about. From February of last year.
I have to tell you that for me to really be affected by what happened, I’d have to have respect for the people who voted in that way,” Holder told ABC News when asked about the historic contempt vote. “And I didn’t, so it didn’t have that huge an impact on me.
And while weÂ’re on lack of respect, letÂ’s look at what Holder said to Congressman Darrell Issa shortly before whinging about respect.
Holder said Issa’s questioning at the hearing was “too consistent with the way in which you conduct yourself as a member of the Congress. It’s unacceptable, and it’s shameful.”
It is not up to Eric Holder, in his capacity as Attorney General, to comment on how a member of Congress performs their duty. In fact, itÂ’s quite the opposite. Issa was there to perform his duty to represent the citizens he represents and provide a check on Executive authority. How he goes about doing that is not for a member of the executive branch to comment upon.
It’s not just Eric Holder who has delusions of grandeur about how he must be treated. Remember Mrs. Boxer’s instruction to a General to call her Senator instead of the perfectly respectful “ma’am”?
We need to get beyond this imperial government we've created and back to a small “r” republican form where people who temporarily hold office don’t consider themselves a distinct and separate class above the real power in this country…the citizens.
As always in cases of honor and respect one should look to George Washington for direction. This is how he began his first inaugural address to CongressÂ…
”Fellow-Citizens of the Senate and of the House of Representatives:“
Citizens first, people who simply were members of Congress second. (The value of citizenship is one reason IÂ’m so opposed to giving it to people whose first act in this country was to break our laws but thatÂ’s another story)
You know who gets this? Senator Ron Johnson. You might recall I had the chance to talk to him a few weeks ago about his “Victims of Government Project” (check it out if you haven’t). His staffer who set it up took my number and said I get a call at the agreed upon time (or close enough for government work). When I saw the DC area code I figured it was the staffer saying, “hold on for the Senator”. What I got was, “Hi, this is Ron Johnson…..”. But by not demanding or assuming the status so many public “servants” seem to feel entitled to, he immediately proved worthy of just that kind of respect.
ItÂ’s an example more office holders, including Eric Holder should learn from.
Below the fold...video of Holder demanding respect.

Great post, Drew. (With)Holder has consistenty shown his comtempt for Republicans and anyone who dares to question any of his actions. He is above the law, because he is the law, at least in his own mind. Therefore, those, like Black Panthers, who are favored can get away with anything, while those who he disdains get persecuted.
I wish I had seen Issa's response to Holder's statement yesterday. Unfortunately, none of the videos I've seen has shown Issa's reaction.

Excellent point about demanding versus earning respect.
My representative (Scott Garrett) holds conference calls every month or two. The system is set up so that anyone can call in and speak with him, ask questions, or just rant a bit. He listens respectfully to everyone.
It's almost as if he understands who he works for.

I mean, TFG fires the "Acting Director" of the IRS- who wasn't even in that possition when the "enemies list" audits began- and all I'm hearing is about how "tough" that was, as though it suddenly makes everything alright again.
I guess that offer to bring up the Press Shield Law had its intended affect. Better than chocolate and flowers.

If you didn't watch the lead up to Withholder's demands, it's worth the time. Basically Withholder provided the committee with a multi-page memo that was all redacted except for the From and To lines. Issa was wondering What The Fuck, and Withholder said he didn't know why it was all redacted but he'd look into it. Issa pointed out that it was all redacted because someone didn't want the committee to know the details in the memo.
That's when Withholder got all butthurt. Yeah, if you want respect, don't try to snow the committee with a ridiculous stunt like that.

This administration sets race-relations back almost every day. It's a circus of entitlement, and hubris. It really makes you wonder "what did they think actually happened in the 'corridors of power?'"
Did they truly believe that these jobs were as hands-off as they treat them? Did they really believe that this shit just works itself out?
The answer, of course, is "yes, they did." Liberals of every color truly believe that BIG BUSINESS is nothing but Mr. Monopoly, smoking his cigar while riding the backs of homeless families. They really believe that their nemesis, the Koch Brothers, heat their homes with the bones of children who starved to death while they worked on their back-nine game.
The sheer stupidity of it is mind boggling. What's worse is that the "liberals" who really do know what's involved in being an executive - the Soros' of the world - feed this view so that they can exploit it. Obama might not even realize that he's a puppet. Truly a Manchurian-model.
Eric Holder doesn't even realize that he's a tool... which only makes him a bigger tool.

I blame the creation of a permanent Political Class in Washington on John Carrier. Before he invented air conditioning DC was a hot, damp, miserable and generally uninhabitable swamp for almost seven months out of the year and nobody wanted to stay there long term. That changed with the advent of AC.

Either constitutional amendment or (considering the ass-covering scum in DC) an Executive Order: No member of Congress, nor their families nor their staffers at any level whatsoever shall be exempt from laws duly passed by Congress. Then make that motherfucker retroactive to the goddamn Garfield administration.

Is the unltimate plan not only to cause so much chaos, but to make us absolutely not trusting of any of our govt functions?
like their desire to use drones in country.
or that not only do you pay taxes doing your duty, but now they want you body scan , and all personal history.
the fact that you find you cannot 'trust' not like is one thing but not 'trust'
We know for hundreds of years this was a, go to country to find freedom from tyranny and dictators .
it was about trust and being able to climb out of hopelessnes with perseverence and tons of effort, but if they are saying they will cut you off at the knees if you don't vote a certain way, or pay up what is left??

Watch your mailbox for the forthcoming lock-in letter, also sent to your employer, informing you of the new allowance they have selected for you. Because your suspiciously high withholdings have offended their sensibilities, and you clearly can't be trusted to decide how to handle your finances.
---
I'll second this warning...
I have family that used to work in the "Criminal Investigations" unit of a tax agency and the priority given to them by their bosses was tax protesters.
Anyone caught screwing around with their withholding, such as by putting 9 dependents, got personal attention. Their withholding was reset to a lower level with a warning to the employer not to increase it. If the person changed jobs, the process repeated.

My wife and I got a letter from the IRS saying we now had to file quarterly payments and penalties for not enough withholding. The reason why is because we could claim her children only on even numbered years as a result of the divorce settlement with her ex. Our taxes swung wildly from year to year, from owing a lot to receiving a lot, so much that they wanted us to withhold more, pay penalties and file quarterly. It sucked ass because I too, believe in hanging onto my money as long as possible then paying it all on April 15.

Didier Drogba, the Ivory Coast native who is one of the greatest soccer players in the world and now plays for the Turkish club Galatasaray, had bananas thrown at him last weekend. In addition, the crowd in last weekend's game in Turkey made monkey noises at him.
------------------------
Wayne Simmonds, who is a black NHL player for the Flyers, had a banana peel thrown at him on the ice from a fan in London, Ontario back in 2011, when they were playing an exhibition against the Red Wings in preseason.
I like to point that out to my Canadian acquaintances when they ask earnestly clueless questions like, "You're from the South? Isn't it true there's a lot of racism against black people there?"
"That depends, I guess. Certainly black folk complain of racism, but they don't have bananas thrown at them like y'all do in Ontario."

I bet I know who threw that peel. Canada is very immigration friendly, and a lot of its citizens are from around the world, and that's been like that for many years now. While I agree with what you are saying generally, I'm not sure we (or any nation) ever really had elected representatives who did not feel they were above the electorate. That is exactly why the founders sought at every turn to limit gov't power and created co-equal branches in the hope that each branch would keep the others from getting too high and mighty.
by creating a vast system of agencies run by the executive, we really have moved way beyond that now. They really are not co-equal branches any longer. I think the real first step in limiting the size and scope of gov't is to make radical chances in how agencies are created, funded, and run as well as when and how they are allowed to enact regulations.
A big problem with our agency system of gov't is that elected representatives are happy to push everything off to the Agencies (which all actually report to the executive). In this way, if an agency does something the congressman's constituents don't like, the congressman can blame the agency and pretend to have nothing to do with it. It absolves the elected officials of responsibility for an enormous portion of what the gov't does.
And, it even gives the executive cover. Executives can always pretend not to know what an agency is doing and someone from the Agency can always be a fall guy.
So, multiple layers between gov't action and accountability.
In my mind, for starters, every agency regulation should require an affirmative vote of congress to come into effect. And every agency should have zero-line budgeting and each agencies budget should be considered separately.
Next, each agency IG should be appointed by congress and not the president and should serve at congress's (I would actually make this only the house of reps, not the senate) will. That would provide some checks/balances for agencies.
Of course, it goes without saying that I would eliminate many agencies, reduce the size and scope of others, etc.

Holder doesn't have my respect right now for a very simple reason... he's not a competent lawyer. His risible testimony that he "recused" himself from the leak investigation that led to obtaining the AP reporters' telephone records demonstrates an astonishing lack of basic legal skills. Any junior associate in my office would know that you have to get something like that on the record and in writing, period. Hell, if we get a simple extension on discovery response due dates, we get it in writing.
Either he knew about the DoJ getting the AP reporters' phone records and participated in the violation of their 1st Amendment rights.
Or he didn't know about it because he had "recused" himself but didn't get it in writing. (Perhaps it was a telepathic mental recusal. "I recused myself.... in my mind!")
Or more likely he didn't know about it because he, like Obama, simply isn't actively managing the people under him.
Either way, he's got to go.

Besides, my people were kicked out of here in 1755, so it's time for some payback.
