— Ace Politico's Dylan Byers says he really wants to know who perpetrated the Boston Massacre so he can get into political mode. Basically he wants to know if he's on Offense or Defense, or, as he puts it, "what sort of national conversation we'll be having," or something like that. (Safe link to The Other McCain.)
Not a safe link, but Buzzfeed makes fun of CNN for goofing so much in their Boston coverage.
Ramesh Ponuru is already declaring Obama's second term a failure, which leads me to ask, along with David Berkowitz, "What took you so long?"
ProgressKY, which bugged McConnell's office, visited the White House days before the group declared Twitter Jihad on McConnell. (Also a buzzfeed link.)
I just got an email from the entire media about that story: What difference does it make?
Sheryl Atkisson:
CBS News has learned that previously unknown whistleblowers on #Benghazi are now speaking to Congressional investigators.
— Sharyl Attkisson (@SharylAttkisson) April 17, 2013
These survivors had previously been... let's say fearful of prosecution for revealing things that Obama's government would claim to be state secrets. I'm not sure what deal/protection was worked out to get them talking.
Pocketful of Liberty discusses something I worry about -- conservatives becoming "the weird kid" in class.
My initial skepticism about the ricin letters was, I'm sure you all now know, misplaced.
Because, apparently, the only thing that matters anymore is whether the perp was a possible Tea Partier or not (this is what is driving all the heat about the Boston Massacre -- the left wants so bad for this to be the action of someone on the right, so they can use that to further their unending assault on America), I'll note that the messages accompanying the ricin seem to come from someone native born:
"To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance."
And the messages demonstrate a familiarity with American political messaging:
"I am KC and I approve this message."
But then, the first quote is apparently lifted off the 'net, from some chiropractor who originally blogged about insurance matters.
Meanwhile, the fair and balanced Gwen Ifil is spitting nails:
Disturbing that it's OK for TV to ID a Boston bombing suspect only as "a dark-skinned individual."
— gwen ifill (@pbsgwen) April 17, 2013
No follow-up concerns about CBS's claim that a white suspect is sought, as noted by @rdbrewer4. Also no good reason given to deny the public such information, except "I don't like it when my tribe might look like it has a wayward member."
Al Sharpton addressed this matter with dignity, grace, and spittle.
Why was No-Drama Obama all Mr. Stompyboots over a personal defeat when he's been notably calm about actual US deaths?

"Yet the White House has to be disappointed, whatever it says, by the way the second term has been going. The presidentÂ’s poll numbers have been falling since December, for one thing. His average job-approval rating, compiled on Pollster.com, has been below 50 percent for weeks."
Some of you may recall a prediction I made a few days after the SCOAMF was re-elected, and everyone was in sackcloth and ashes and bewailing cruel fate.
I said: "Don't panic. Don't despair. He's Francois Hollande."
Hollande at the time was plummeting in the polls (and has not recovered). I noted that Hollande had won election, and the SCOAMF had won re-election, by the identical device of horribly demonizing their opponent.
Problem with demonizing opponents is, the electorate may turn out to reject the guy who has been demonized, but it doesn't hand the victor a mandate to implement his own agenda afterward. Especially not if he tries to be aggressive with policy.
Hollande came right out of the gate with a hugely controversial and counterproductive tax rate hike up to 75%. It turned out to be unpopular. He fell like a rock in the polls.
Obama came right out of the gate with heavy-duty gun control. Hugely controversial and counterproductive. It has turned out to be unpopular, and he has fallen like a rock in the polls.
The thing to do now is to CAPITALIZE ON HIS FAILURE. Aggressively.
Start building towards a successful Senate takeover next year. If the GOP can get that, the last two years of Obama's presidency will amount to nothing but one long petulant sulk on the golf course.

Our country is in an existential contest for its very existance. The Left espouses a philosophy that is antithetical to any liberty loving person. And they are impervious to argument or persuasion. Quite the contrary, they want to crush argument and disagreement. They are authoritarian control freaks in the worst possible way, the very epitome and caricature of the stern, authoritarian father that most of them probably get their daddy issues from.
There is no compromise with them. They brook no defiance. They want us crushed. And they control the levers of power and of education and information. This country has never faced a more serious threat. Hitler couldn't cross 20 miles of English Channel let alone the Atlantic Ocean. The Japanese were never a threat to anything east of Hawaii. But these fuckers are inside the gates. They are among us and around us and they are malevolent. It is like our worst dreams have come true. And the issue of our survival is seriously in doubt. Our last defense resides in our rifles. God Bless the Founding Fathers for having the forethought to enshrine that right. And the Left is trying mightily to take that right away from us. The Charlatan in Chief is leading the charge, hiding behind the skirts of grieving parents. Do not let him and his co-conspirators in the Democrat Party take them away from us.

The photo of the guy grinning up at the camera (with blue beer can, in metallic blanket) still bugs me more than who we are supposed to be focused on. I am assuming, like all the rest speculating, that these are photos from security cameras. A few near him are taking photos of themselves and a baby or watching race. He is wearing a silver blanket and grinnin' the fool right at the camera. Detective Christy wonders if he is in blanket so camera can't see his clothes. He looks a lot like the tattooed guy running in shredded clothes with tattoo. Hopefully this is the last speculation of the day.

The bomber wanted to cover the death of the intended victim with other deaths. The death of the intended victim would point to him, so cover that killing with other killings (Anna Puma pointed out after my comment that my speculative plan has been done before in real life, and another commenter said the same). My speculation is weird, but since no group is claiming responsibility, then in my speculation the bomber wants no further contact with the events so as to not leave any further clues for investigators. The bomber has no other agenda than the one death and nothing else needs to be said - let the investigation dead-end.
Follow the lives of the victims of the blast and those in the blast-zones and find the bomber.
End my stint as an amateur Agatha Christie.

The vast, overwhelming majority of voters wanted this legislation but it failed because Senators only want to be re-elected. Politics.
So the vast majority of voters wanted gun control, but Senators voted against it because they didn't want to piss off the vast majority of voters? I don't know where to begin with logic like that.

I find myself agreeing with Obama when he says the country has behaved shamefully...
.. but then I get reminded that he's talking about gun control, not about our re-electing a socialist pathological liar, and generally statist SOB, with two major scandals to his "credit", for racist reasons.

Can he ever speak from the heart? Or always, always from the teleprompter...which goes like this:
President: blah,blah,blah...pause meaningfully...blah, blah, frowny face. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

CNN Breaking News-
Letters addressed to members of Congress were determined to contain detectable amounts of criticism, which, even in very small amounts is known to be highly toxic to politicians. Fortunately, heightened security allowed congressional staffers to intercept the letters before they reached the desk of the intended targets.

This I can understand. A Saudi national was detained, and his home searched. Either he has something to do with it, in which case Obama would be in his rights to bitch the foreign minister out (if nothing else, for not living up to the Saudis' bargain); or else he was innocent, in which case Obama would need to apologise.
I'd expect similar from the Saudi king if his goons had de-handed an American for stealing something he didn't.

I think that may be the perception among some -- mostly those on the Left -- but I don't see it among the vast majority of conservatives. Look at the intelligence and sense of humor of those who frequent this site. The comments on this site are filled with highbrow analysis and persuasive arguments supported by facts and theory, but there are also a myriad of pop culture references and four-letter words and various other obscenities. I think it illustrates that this place is filled with many intelligent, creative individuals, though very few of them take themselves too seriously. It's why I love coming here.
Bottom line: many on the Left operate under the false premise that they are the cool, hip crowd, while the Right are not. Maybe that was true back when Buddy Holly or The Beatles were the top music acts, but it's not true today. Or maybe I'm just completely deluded.

I'm completely serious. I first really noticed it about a year ago, when Obama was giving a speech about energy. I had never seen such a rapid-fire stream of deceptions, half-truths, bogus ideology, and outright lies in all my life. For every family Obumbles parades around with, the GOP should have 4 ready to give their stories. Instead of being defensive about it, go on the offensive.
Make the narrative about how horrible of an idea it is to take away peoples right to defend themselves.
If the libtards want the second amendment to be about self defense, then give them examples in spades.

Hospital stands down old system after migrating all patient records to new system. Then finds out a year down the road at least one patient's records did not migrate. So they had to bring old system back up, find the records, and transfer them. Now the hospital is wondering who else fell through the cracks and what to do next.

263Fox just showed that poor mom who lost her daughter in the marathon bombing giving a presser.
I'll never understand wanting to go in front of cameras the very next day to read a written statement and express my grief to millions of strangers.
I'd be in a darkened room, curled in a corner. I guess I'm weird or something.
If this is Krystle Campbell's mother, wow.
Our 28-year-old daughter was the nurse in the room when Krystle's parents came in, thinking that the giel in the hospital was Krystle. Of course it turned out that she was Krystle's friend and that Krystle was dead.
Krystle's brother actually showed our daughter the pictures of his dead sister on his cell phone. They had been posted on Boston.com, but have since been pulled.
Luckly our daughter was able to keep it all together for the family.
A liberal since graduating from Northeastern U in Boston, she has been thoroughly shaken up by all this, however.
I'm not saying a word about the political side of this; just trying to be her mom, being there for her when she wants to talk. And I'm going up to see her in a couple of weeks.
I have to think, though, this atrocity is going to have a lasting effect on her.

REID: In the 1920s, organized crime was committing murders with machine guns. So Congress dramatically limited the sale and transfer of machine guns. As a result, machine guns all but disappeared from the streets. We can and should take the same common-sense approach to safeguard Americans from modern weapons of war.
That is why I will vote for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban – because we must strike a better balance between the right to defend ourselves and the right of every child in America to grow up safe from gun violence. I will vote for the ban because maintaining law and order is more important than satisfying conspiracy theorists who believe in black helicopters and false flags. And I will vote for the ban because saving the lives of young police officers and innocent civilians is more important than preventing imagined tyranny.
Fuck you like a Viking, dipshit!
Want to take a stab at what started in 1920? It was called Prohibition, you dickhead. That's when organized crime took off. It was government once again fucking around with people's personal freedoms. (see Drug War)
You look like a 100 year old homunculus so I'm sure you remember Prohibition. You know, the thing that made the Kennedys filthy rich.

No disrespect to your point, with which I agree, but since the passage of the 22d Amendment, almost every presidential second-term has been a failure - or at least substantially less successful than the first term. That's on account of his being a lame duck the entire term. No one really cares what he has to say or wants to do; he's a lame duck.
Let this be a lesson to all you term-limits people. Term-limits' purpose is to protect us from stupid voters - not from professional politicians. What it usually means (presidents aside) is we have a mandatory lame duck, followed by someone who is worse than the guy who got limited out.
It's just plain dumb to have a law that prohibits the voters from re-electing a good representative simply because the law says we're too dumb to get rid of a bad one.
