— Ace Farrakhan praised Hagel as a man who finally had the guts to hate the Jews. Hey, we were all thinking it.
And, as we speak, Republicans are changing their "nay" votes on cloture to "yea." Lamar Alexander's fainthearted fade makes Hagel -- a dumb man -- in charge of our military.
So, Farrakhan carried the day.

"Repubs folded once again"
Only if one makes the mistake of assuming that said "Repubs" are in any way, shape, or form an "opposition" to the status quo of Washington politics.

Boston Globe issued a piece asking Obama to withdraw Hagel.
I know we have all been down and depressed that we have this idiot for another 4 years.
But the more I think about it, the more I think the tide has actually really begun to turn in OUR FAVOR.
Ace, I'll write a long piece on this if you want me to put it in the comments. But we act as if all is lost and we don't realize how far we have come. Republicans have TAKEN BACK CONGRESS. They hadn't held Congress since the Great Depression before 1994!!!!!!

Remember when being a U.S. Senator really meant something? When it was a mark of distinction?
Well, me neither, but I know it used to be that way. Now the Chuck Hagels and the yokels who confirm him are the public face of what used to be an exclusive club.

As people have repeatedly pointed out, Obama wants Hagel as a cudgel against GOP criticism of his foreign policy. He wants Hagel to be able to wave off criticism with "My foreign policy guy is a Republican and he agrees with me. Not like you eXXXtreme extremists of the G-O-exxxtremi-Pee!"
IT's a tactic not a simple choice for carrying out his FP.

Is it a fold if you have absolutely no control of who gets picked next and this is probably the most acceptable choice you're going to be offered?
I don't know about that. We could be looking at Def. Sec. Bill Ayers or something like that. Hey, Farrakahn already is in charge of an army. Experience you guys.

And he's a Republican, that he can blame his disasters on.

Maybe. But doesn't that mean the GOP may be placing the needs of the military above political expediency? I'd rather have a politically inconvenient but well meaning dunce run the military over an intelligent person actively trying to destroy it from within.

I thinks it's like when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments and found the children of Israel worshiping a golden calfg except this time it's a ebony bullshitter.
P.S. Moses ground the golden calf up and had the people drink it. Today's Jews will have that which they have worshiped shoved down their throats as well.

I'm so glad Tom Cotton is a household name here!!! I've done my work. But seriously, is that not the most fucking awesome name for a politician we all have ever heard!!!!!!!
War hero - check. Farmer - check. Middle class -check. Top of his class at Harvard law - check. Schooled in deep conservative thought (see Claremont Institute) - check. BIG THINGS AHEAD FOR MR. COTTON I THINK.
The reason I am peppy and upbeat, after being despondent for weeks, is I realize the craziness from which we have come. Before Reagan and his judiciary, we were THIS CLOSE to total statism.
But even though it doesn't feel like it, the groundworks are moving in the OPPOSITE direction. Just take the issue of gun control as the prime example. In the 1960s, roughly 65% wanted to BAN HANDGUNS!!!!
That position is laughable now. And unconstitutional. People aged 25 and under oppose an "Assault Weapons" ban 70-30. We are WINNING. And the internet and the FACTS are helping us.
