1 I was at the convention when he gave that speech. The people at the conventions were mesmerized and he won over many for the vote. I don't know how he would do nationally, he is still an untested Lt. governor candidate.

12 It took four votes for him to rise above fifty percent and win the nomination - when many of the folks from more remote locations had given up after a long day and gone home. Many people who know him in the party like him, and some people I respect have a lot of respect for him. My take on him, though, was that he was a niche candidate.

It's be neat to have a sight that had a regional map interface and state by state and county by county stories....

I'm pretty sure there is a LOT of dirt in Detroit etc etc

the problem becomes editorial oversight and a trained eye to protect the reporting from a legal standpoint and aggregating the coverage...

I was just remembering when, awhile back, one of the British newspapers published a story about a very early seventh-century Anglo-Saxon burial of a teenage girl that included a brooch with a cross on it. The conclusion of the archeologists was she was probably one of the earliest English converts, but a bunch of people in the comments were swearing up and down that it was a sun-cross. Almost identical cross, IIRC.

83 I volunteered at the Virginia Republican convention and got to here this guy in person. For Governor (Cuccinelli) and Lt. Governor (Jackson), it was basically a tea party sweep. I don't know much about the Attorney General candidate but Cuccinelli did endorse him so hopefully he will be just as good. I was doing a happy dance when I left the Richmond Convention Center that day.

I suspect that they are largely repulsed, but they understand that they are a part of the fetid ship that they are sailing in, and all hands are needed.

Bhowani Junction a good read. Actually, I would recommend all of John Masters' books. Night Runners of Bengal provides a lot of insight into the Indian uprising. Of all of his books, his autobiographical trilogy is best. In The Road past Mandalay, Masters describes his command experiences while operating behind Japaneses lines in Burma. At one point, on the verge of being surrounded by a much larger Jap force, he has to confront the fact that they will be captured unless they stage a quick escape, and yet they have severely wounded/dying troops that they can not transport. Understanding full well the horrors that will befall any wounded left behind, he orders them killed. A tough, tough guy. Good writer too.

228 Great speech, although the pacing could have been better, but he probably only had a set amount of time allotted and wanted to pack everything in. Also, when you're constantly at 9 or 10, you have to go to 11 or 12 at the parts you want to really hammer home, which can become tiring to listen to over a longer period of time, but that was a really inspiring speech that makes me wish I lived in Virginia just so I could cast a vote for E.W. Jackson.

I loved Alan Keyes. I was too young to vote for him in '96, but wanted to! I was able to when he ran again in 2000; I liked him better than anyone else running. He got a little crazy in '04 running in IL's senate race, but he's been cool on youtube since '08.

This guy is great, and have you noticed how looooong the list gets every year about what government needs to stay out of? Heck, he didn't even mention that it needs to stay out of our emails, phone calls, websites, or texts!
