Filthy Reid Vows to Break GOP Filibuster on Guns on Thursday
— Ace

Either he'll break the filibuster, he says, or he won't; but the point is, he claims he's bringing it to a vote either way, which is a warning shot to "conservative Democrats" that they won't be permitted any hiding place.

And if he doesn't break the filibuster, he's vowing to use procedural tricks to keep bringing the issue up.

If Democrats fail to achieve the 60-vote threshold required to end the filibuster, Reid pledged to use procedural tricks provided to the majority leader to gum up the Senate legislative calendar to continue to force votes on gun legislation. "It will take a little bit of time, but we're going to do it," he said.

It is unclear whether there are 60 votes in the Senate to end the filibuster, and Reid conceded he did not know either. At least six Republican senators have said they will vote with Democrats to end the filibuster and allow an up-or-down vote on the gun bill. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., is ill and will not be in the Senate this week to vote, and at least two leading Democrats, Sens. Max Baucus of Montana and Mark Pryor of Arkansas, have not said whether they will support Reid's effort to move to the gun bill.

I'd enjoy an up or down vote. Are the GOP devious enough to agree to something that could allow such a vote to occur?

Pass the popcorn.

NRA plans to challenge Maryland gun law

By Erin Cox

The Baltimore Sun

3:38 PM EDT, April 9, 2013

National Rifle Association President David Keene said Tuesday the organization plans to challenge the constitutionality of Maryland's newly passed gun law.

Keene said the group will "absolutely" go to the courts during in an interview with Washington, D.C. radio station WTOP.

"We are already in court in New York and we will be in court and aiding those in Maryland - and I'm myself a Maryland resident - who want to challenge the constitutionality of this and other provisions here in Maryland," Keene said.

The gun bill passed last month bans the sale of 45 types of military-style semi-automatic rifles, among other strict provisions. Keene said it is unconstitutional to ban firearms in common use and that the AR-15 is nation's best-selling rifle.

The gun law, which Gov. Martin O'Malley does not plan to sign until May, also limits magazines to 10 bullets, and requires a license to buy a handgun.

The Maryland Attorney General's Office reviews every law for constitutionality before it is signed. The law is scheduled to take effect on Oct. 1.

"We believe, as does the Attorney General, that our new law is constitutional," O'Malley spokeswoman Raquel Guillory said. "We currently have a ban on enumerated assault pistols, which has been on the books for decades."

Pro-gun advocates flooded Annapolis during the gun debate voicing displeasure, but on Tuesday were mum about their future plans.

"We are looking at our options," said John H. Josselyn, legislative vice president for the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore.

The group posted a message to members on Sunday cautioning against a "knee-jerk" response to petition the law to referendum and ask voters to tear it down.

"We have never won a referendum in Maryland, and it may not be the best course of action," the message read. "We may be better off pursuing litigation in the courts."

A ban on cheap handguns known as Saturday Night Specials in 1988 was petitioned to referendum and failed, which was at a time when there was less public outcry for new gun laws.

Several public polls conducted since January suggest most Maryland residents support the new gun law, which was prompted by the December mass shooting that killed 27 people at a Connecticut elementary school.

Josselyn's group has asked members to set aside $1 a day to fund a developing political action committee, which could target pro-gun control legislators in the next election.

Shannon Alford, NRA's lobbyist in Annapolis, said there are not yet specifics on the next course of action.

"We're trying to figure out what's next too," she said. "We're at headquarters reviewing the (Maryland) law. Connecticut passed a bill the same day too."

In late March, the NRA and the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association filed a lawsuit with several other New York gun groups alleging that state's new gun laws prohibiting commonly possessed guns and magazines violate the Second Amendment.

In Maryland, the group responsible for petitioning three laws onto the November ballot has taken a circumspect approach to whether to challenge Maryland's gun law.

Del. Neil Parrott, founder of mdpetitions.com, said the group is surveying online and by mail members who helped with previous petition drives.

The group learned the process is far more expensive and time-consuming than simply gathering signatures and they want to target their resources where they can be most effective, said Parrott, a Washington County Republican.

The survey asks which of eight possible bills - including the gun bill, repeal of the death penalty and the issuance of driver's licenses to illegal immigrants - should be petitioned.

Every fucking day in every abortion clinic in America there are "consultations" that engage in high-pressure tactics beyond the pale--every fucking day.

Support for abortion is racism. Pure and unfiltered racism. Those minorities that support it are the vilest of self-haters.

That these parents "can't afford" kids is the very definition of racism--it assumes an unfounded, prejudicial and stereotypical affliction upon all with dark skin: "They're not smart enough, not educated enough, not driven enough to support a family--but I am, in my rich community, in my privileged lifestyle, in my stable family."

The NRA could really do itself a favor and issue a mea culpa wrt endorsing The Pederast in 2010.  At some point they have to reexamine this too-clever-by-half  strategic shit and simply do the right thing by endorsing the right people.  Why they and others like them cannot wrap their brains around the notion that a vote for a "pro-gun" Donk is in a larger context a vote for the anti-gun Donk control of the committees and the Senate/House as well.

Note: The Democrats will vote in lock stop to end a filibuster Republicans will enable the end to the filibuster by voting to end debate. The Senate will indeed pass a gun control bill and at least 10 Republicans will vote for said bill. All the conservative commentors who are suggesting the Democrats were too scared to allow a vote on this issue, and who believe these votes will be good for Republicans will have egg on their faces yet again.

We'll be lucky to hold our majority of governorships and see ANY gains in the house, maybe 1-2 in the Senate. Especially after the 2012 elections, I have little to no faith in our party winning elections or even trying. The establishment candidates failed utterly to deliver in their races, and the nutjobs like Akin fucked us from behind. Doom as far as the eye can see and none of the current polling looks very promising outside of North Dakota, Montana, Arkansas, Alaska and West Virginia.

Are you sure of your stat?

According to the Tuskeegee Institute, between 1882 and 1964 3,445 Blacks were lynched and 1,297 Whites were lynched.  That's 4,742 lynchings in less than 100 years.  I'm not sure how many of those people were killed by the Klan and how many were not, but I think it's a safe guess that more than 100 people were killed by their members in 100 years.
