— Ace Job approval has been low for a while. But there is an old bit of poll wisdom that your personal approval rating sets your maximum possible job approval -- and sets the floor for it, too
And for the first time in the survey, even Obama’s personal ratings are upside-down, with 41 percent viewing him a favorable light and 45 percent viewing him negatively.“Personally and politically, the public’s assessment is two thumbs down,” says Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.
Are people finally seeing the light? Is the Titanic finally going down?
And open thread.
Oh, and I see Purp got into this poll, but he didn't highlight this finding. He highlighted another important one, but not this one.

From your lips to God's ears, Ace. Normally I'd say no as I've been stunned the last 5 years about the general apathy that the country seems to have about Obama. But the only thing that gives me a tiny bit of hope is that formerly-friendly media outlets are starting to criticize TFG and his merrily-marauding band of progressive f*#ktards with the reverse-Midas touch. Hopefully this 'if you like your health plan you can keep it' is Obama's Watergate/Read My Lips No New Taxes/I Did Not Have Sexual Relations With That Woman, Miss Lewinsky moment.

Yeah, this is the fear for me too. There was never a doubt in my mind that people would be pissed when the curtain is pulled back on ACA. That stuff is just simple math. It has to be this way. There must be pain.
But people flight about from one outrage to the next in a matter of weeks. They are easily driven my manufactured narratives. ACA is going to get worse, but is there a point where enough people just decide they'll blame the insurers again because that's what everyone is telling them to think?

I know that most conservatives don't care about this kind of campaigning because you always intended to care for yourselves anyway. However, other people vote against you, and when you get right down to the nub of it they say that they thought the other person cared about them more.
Well, now it has been proven if people are smart enough to point it out -- repeatedly until nausea sets in -- democrats don't care about you -- .
This is a message for people who vote democrat -- democrats don't care about you --if they did, they wouldn't lie to your face about your health insurance and then insult you when you become surprised or offended about the lie.

SS as it stands now isn't all that dissimilar. You are giving everybody a negative return on their investment to give the 20-30% that would never save a penny of their own money for themselves something to live on.
It's easier for this arrangement to dawn on the typical voter with the ACA, because it's so immediately apparent. This is the deal one year, and then all of the sudden this is your deal the next. SS is more of a slow lifelong drip, with much of the pay you would otherwise receive hidden in the background.
I'd like to think if the furor for ACA builds strong enough, a savvy enough politician can bridge to SS reform.
I'd like to think that, but I try to set low expectations, so any surprise is a good one.

This "inferior insurance", aka "crappy policy" lie they're pivoting to now needs to be stomped. Check out the new O-care approved policies. They come in three levels, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, with an optional (for the exchanges and insurance companies) fourth one, the Platinum.
Look at the actuarial value of these suckers. Bronze, the cheapest one, has an actuarial value of 60%. What this means is the plan, on average, will pay 60% of the projected health care costs of the risk pool. This is statistical, an average thing. It's math and probability theory, backed up by empirical data, that are used to calculate this.
Now, this new insurance that O-care deems is the minimum acceptable, only pays 60% of the expected costs, on average. You can play around with deductibles and co-pays and come up with different values of each, but the actuarial value is what it is.
This is far worse than was available for *healthy, younger* individuals on the individual market. So it's actually O-care that is crappy.
Why is it so crappy? Because of the high risk people who are now mandated to come in. They had to kick everyone off their existing insurance, or a large enough number, in able to keep the premium cost from being, oh, $1000+ per month per individual. If you got AIDS, cancer, your yearly costs are going to be enormous.
So, in order to do this, they had to kick healthy people off their existing plans and move them into a new risk pool, and give them less coverage than before, just to pay for the high risk people.
Oh, and don't forget the *zero* out-of-network coverage. More crappy level coverage, pushing into Medicaid level networks.
Now, you want to get anything close to what a healthy, young individual had before O-care? You're going to have get at least Gold level plans, which has an actuarial value of 80%. And you're going to pay through the fucking nose for it.
The only people who benefit are the very hisk risk, for whom this crappy level is a step-up (and they're likely to use it, incurring more costs than before, because they've got somebody else paying for it).
This is your typical socialist end-result. Everyone is equal, but equally miserable, equally poor, etc.
This is what they can't be honest about, because they know it wouldn't sell. They can't tell you the truth (or do it the truly honest way, and directly tax for the high risk, subsidizing their risk pool, which by the way, would've been far cheaper than O-care's massive costs).
They have to lie. And they will keep lying until they are removed from office. This is how progressive have always done it. They must lie to sell their snake oil.

That is the most optimistic outcome I can see. And it could be a lot worse.

Its easy to get people to accept shit that's not in their best interest when the pain is decades off, or the causal nexus not so easily identified.

We agree that no one can do anything about the free shit army. However, we can massively peel off the people who vote dem because they care. That is being proven to be a huge lie right now.

>>I think people underestimate how much a delay really screws this up further. They really need these young people signing up now, or we haven't seen anything with the costs yet. The fine isn't punitive enough to make people do it, really. We call it a mandate, but there is truly not a lot of teeth in that mandate.
They kinda needed the young people to jump in quickly. They really didn't need to have fully healthy young people get a few month of news stories about the escalating costs before they acted against their financial interests in signing up for this. Fully healthy youth would have been best off with the catastrophic level stuff that is disappearing. These lefties are boxed in badly as this drags on.

What I I'm talking about is, liberals (mainstream liberals, not full-blown hardline commies) have their opinions, and on certain issues they recognize that a lot of people don't agree with them, and that's okay, because they'll eventually win the day and convince everyone of the rightness of their cause. And then Obama issues a mild statement expressing his vague support for that view, and suddenly those same relatively mild-mannered liberals go full-blown radical, saying their view is the only legitimate view and anyone who disagrees with them goes out and clubs baby seals in his spare time.
We saw this before on gay marriage, where Obama spoke, and then an asshole tried to shoot up the Family Research Center, and then people I knew and liked said, essentially, "Well, yeah, of course it's terrible that this happened, and I'm glad nobody was hurt, but those Hatey McHatersons brought it on themselves with their extreme and hateful positions. Telling gay people they can't have legally sanctioned marriage to others of the same sex is just like the Holocaust! Those people are Hitler, and if you disagree with me then you're Hitler too!"
We saw it again just recently with the Washington Redskins, where liberals expressed their disapproval of the name with cutely crinkled noses for decades, and then Obama said it'd be sort of cool if the team name were changed, and suddenly DAN SNYDER IS THE DEVIL AND EVERYTHING THAT'S WRONG IN THIS COUNTRY AND IN THE WORLD.
I think it's awesome that Snyder responded to the uproar with, "Well, okay, I guess maybe the Washington Redskins isn't such a cool name, after all. So, starting next year, we'll be called... the DC Redskins. Ohhhhh! Suck it, libs!" That seemed to take some wind out of their sails.
Truth be told, I'm not crazy about the Redskins name, myself. But it's his team, and he can call it what he wants. And, had Snyder buckled, they would've then gone after the Cleveland Indians, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves, the Chicago Blackhawks... no Amerind-themed team nickname would've been safe. And, frankly, saying you can't name your team after certain people who have skin of a particular color because "that's racist" is, itself, a racist point of view.
What's wrong with "Atlanta Braves"? A "brave" is a type of warrior from that area. It's like saying you can't call your team the San Diego Sailors. Or, perhaps more pertinently, the New England Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Syracuse Orangemen (Syracuse is sort of close to New Jersey, after all)...
So, thank you, Dan Snyder, for thumbing your nose at your critics!

Ace, do you ever look at the poll data? His numbers are down from last month basically because last month the Dem/Rep split was +12 for the Dems in the poll, this month it is only +9 ...hence his numbers are down.
It's pretty sad in this country right now mostly because self-identified Democrats will stick by their vote (due to the psychology of ownership) even when he screws up horrible. Of course it is likely the other way around for a republican president as well.
Obama could be found to have personally murdered a million children and eat them and his approval rating in a +9 poll would be 40/56....it's just what the country is right now. The dems will support him no matter what, the GOP won't and the moderates will move en masse.
Don't get me wrong, it would be the same thing for a GOP president, at least at this point in the politics of our country.
What the polls are going to do is slowly take that +12 Dem/Rep. reading and bring that down to about a +4 so that as the midterms come up they can bring the split back up to a +12 and claim that Obama and the democrats are making a comeback.
You can print that, it is what will happen with the liberal polling groups - everytime, that is just what they will do to try to make their chosen narrative reality.
Posted by: doug at October 30, 2013 07:10 PM (uJ8q7)
Ace, same thing with the healthcare law polling....no longer will they give the party split on reporting the healthcare, instead if they need to bump up the appearance of support for Obamacare, they just call up more city folk and less of everyone else. They don't report on party split or where the calls came from, that way they can make the appearance that support for the law hasn't really diminished.
Of course in reality, they might have gotten a 75% support from the city two weeks ago and now only a 60% approval, but by counting more of them the second time they can keep the overall Obamacare number the same in the low 40's and keep their narrative alive.
