Liberal Democrats are not dumb enough to send their own kids to crappy liberal Democrat public schools. Again, leftism is a mental disorder, not a political ideology. 12 What is  accomplished by putting someone's name on a watch list?

The FBI is notorious for collecting scraps of innuendo, gossip, and unsubstantiated claims collating that information into a report, filing the report in a folder, storing the folder in a file box, and putting the file box on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere.

It's not yet even certain that all of this is done digitally in today's digital data age.

It's nothing more than a big fat file to be used in court *after* something happens.

Re: California High-speed rail

It was recently uncovered that the bidding process was quietly changed to rig the deal in favor of the notoriously low-balling Tutor Perini Co.

The original process shortlisted the three best technical proposals, which would then re-compete on price.  Somewhere in the shadows, the process was changed to cost first, which favored Tutor's pretend numbers.

137 I will have to believe you have a basis for this statement.

The requirement to pay taxes went away in the colonies.  However the requirement to own property did not go away in all States until in the mid-1800s with the so-called Jacksonian Democracy. So I guess since all States had some type of property tax there was still and indirect requirement there.

And yes, I have half a dozen history books on my shelf here and have devoured many more from the library.

Personally I would like us to go back to that.  Not only did it require you to own property, but it was also limited to white males.  If that was the case today, as racists as it was, Obama would not be President. And we would not have 1/4 of the socialism we have now.

-------------------------------------
Now THAT is a heaping pile of bullshit. Most of us are old enough to remember when healthcare worked just fine. Cheap, affordable catastrophic insurance. Cash for the rest of our services. It existed, it was cheap for EVERYONE, and THAT was the reality. So no, we DON'T fucking HAVE to accept that oh - 'well, reality is politicians, bureaucrats, 3rd party administrators and lawyers have gotten their dirty fucking hands all over it and now we're just stuck and have to live with it.'

Fuck that noise. We could fix this shit in about a weekend, and unfortunately, there seem to be a whole fucking class of people determined to push the rest of the world to just that kind of desperate place. Not because all the people who don't want that mess are heartless and evil, but because the greedy motherfuckers that DO won't get their dirty fucking hands out of a pie they don't belong in, and have nothing to do with. That's a huge stinking pile of failed bullshit Gabe, and a giant illustration of why the country is in the mess its in.

The good news? Motherfuckers are going to reap the fucking whirlwind - it's as certain as math. And whether anyone likes it or not, we'll soon be back to every man having to take care of his own shit - because there won't be ANY safety net, for anybody. Anyone who's incapable of doing so? Enjoy the instant karma. Bon appetite.

Worlds going to fuckall. I'm not giving the consciences of thieves one more fucking inch.

We, as a nation, are seriously going to take this shit to the hilt before we understand what's going on, aren't we?

168 The requirement to pay taxes went away in the colonies. However the requirement to own property did not go away in all States until in the mid-1800s with the so-called Jacksonian Democracy. So I guess since all States had some type of property tax there was still and indirect requirement there. Personally I would like us to go back to that. Not only did it require you to own property, but it was also limited to white males. If that was the case today, as racists as it was, Obama would not be President. And we would not have 1/4 of the socialism we have now. Posted by: Vic at April 26, 2013 10:09 AM (53z96) The requirement to own property was my main argument in this regard. The ownership of property is tantamount to a requirement to pay taxes. Who can own property without paying taxes? It is an axiomatic condition of property ownership. As for the rest of your comment, I have no objection to voting by women or people of other ethnicities, so long as the base requirement is that you have to be a net CONTRIBUTOR to the government for which officials you are voting.

So he was using the Carrie Underwood argument in which she argues that her wedding day was the happiest day in her life and she could not deny that joy to anyone.  It is sophistry to argue like that.  The happiest moment for a serial killer is when he sees the life go out of his victim's eyes, yet, we do not line up a bunch of suicidally depressed people to create some sort of win-win for everybody.   And, no, I am not calling gay marriage proponents the equivalent of serial killers.  I am merely arguing that happiness alone is not a justification.  Lots of undesirable things make people happy-meth, heroin, and so on and so forth.

Not only because it sounds like internet access is going to be taxed, which, last time I looked at my bill, it was, but it's not a special tax because you bought something over the internet. This is all a fight about who has to collect the taxes. Randomly, I'm scanning a huge stack of documents and it's the weirdest thing. The staples are rusted. The documents are, at most, 7 years old and the documents show no signs of water damage. Yet all the staples are rusted. Okay then.

244 Attention all house contractors/experienced remodelers or kitchen/bathroom counter refinishers....I need some independent advise, please.

Here is the scenario at the toxic waste dump, formerly known as my home. My husbnad, trying to save money (which I am fine with, as we will be in the home about five more years. We built home 18 yrs ago...so, anyway, we decided to refinish cultured marble vs expense of granite or other countertops in two bathrooms. He found a company one hour away, with experience. Naturally the "never has happened before" happened with us: they prepped, painted, and bubbles formed on final coat each time.Could be grit, as I have no idea. This was last week on one sink. They sent guy yesterday, who wet-sanded, prepped applied primer, applied paint and same thing happened. This time on two sinks and large tub. Guy came again today, same result.

So, now, manager is coming on Monday (I question why he did not come TODAY) to wet-sand and buff with some type of car wax or something. I have expressed, nicely, as I am a nice woman except with Democrats, that 1) I have concern about the VOC's that are "supposedly" safe after product(s) harden. Expressed layers of this stuff upon layers, and living with it in future. Oh, not to worry, Miz Christy, it is cool, no harm done (well....your guy yesterday has no sense of smell, but, hey! It is safe!!!). 2) I expressed my teeny-tiny irritation that no one could come tomorrow, even if it is Saturday, as I have not had faucets for one week in that  bathroom in this one-day job. Manager said it needs to "age" or harden or something and Monday is best day. Right.

I am ready to cut and run, find some less expensive type of Corian (not granite, as, again, we are leaving in a few years...I just wanted to update and enjoy it for a little while and have less to get ready for the big move West) and call it good.

But now the tub is, apparently, beyond repair unless this works. And that sucker will  be expensive to replace. This stinks, literally, to high heaven.  Our thoughts were to give this a try and if it did not work, have counters installed. It is too bad they involved the damn tub as well. Sorry to bore you with this, but if there are any morons with experience out there I would sure appreciate it. I do not want to die from the slow release of toxic fumes (manager said, like husband and son, once dry and hardened the "products" VOC's are safe and non-existent. All we are hoping for is the stupid tub to look decent and then we will cut our losses (as will this company). They have been nice and apologetic, so at least there is that. Meanwhile, I am a wee bit depressed and frazzled. Hair is frizzed. I do have an odd glow about me (skin and hair), but not sure if glow-in-dark is the beauty phase I was hoping for as an aging supermodel. I know "emerald green" is the color of the year, but this is more of a sickly chartreuse. Any help or advise would be appreciated re: the installation and/or resurfacing of cultured marble counter tops. My advise: do not ever buy cultured marble counter tops as they stain and are a pain. (Good, ChristyB, you can still rhyme!).

Of course if we did away with the notion of "cost plus" contracts for government we'd have less of this shit.

I had a tree taken down recently.  One two guys came in remarkably high ($3000-4000) and two came in much lower ($1900).

All had good BBB Angie's list reviews.

I went with the lower guy.

At the end of the day (it took 9 hours to take the tree down) the guy said he probably underbid the tree, but he had to still finish the work at the agreed upon contract price (and he did it was good work.  I think he had intended to sell the trunk/stump but things when wrong anyway....)  If he hadn't I'd have exercised my rights and such to complain and/or sue.

In government you could amend your contract and ask for more money.  This is moronic.

The kids were cringing in the corner by that point and my friend was very upset with the doctor for her very graphic descriptions of what sex acts transmit the virus. If you can open a window and put a fan in it pointing out, then the VOCs won't get into the rest of the house. And as long as you aren't breathing them in concentrated form they are just unpleasant, not dangerous.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at April 26, 2013 10:42 AM (/WLC3)

Thank you both. Windows have fans going. Fortunately I am in other part of toxic waste dump. BCochran and Charile, my husband thanks you as well, as I do like hearing from morons other than my own husband and son. Sometimes they tell me things just to get me to come down off the ledge of over-analyzing and the potential damage to cellular DNA double helix physiology. I can't help some of this as a nurse...I always go to worse case scenario first! I think they are hoping I will concentrate on bird flu next as the potential danger of trip to Europe in one month (well, that and the youths of Paris).

I have even wondered about the chemistry involved in all of the layers of crap they have tried and yada yada. Husband said they "know what they are doing" or so we hope. I want this to go away and leave me happily picking out new counters at Lowes and dealing with new repairmen.

It is a rare event in my life when a) repairmen show up on time, and b) work is good. I did have a wonderful man I befriended who repaired our pool screens, shredded by a hurricane and palms. He has nerves of steel and was very good. Husband could not believe our rapport, as it appeared he was my best friend that day. Another man from Lowes was good, installing shutters. And our contractor, 18 years ago was good, but I think he was afraid of me. I just noticed a mosquito in house from open doors, so West Nile may distract me for a brief period. There is also the "look for snakes that may have sneaked in" chore for husband when he gets off his conference call.

As long as this won't kill me slowly, over time, I can live with it, I guess. It has certainly stalled my plans, and that I can live with as well. There is a needlepoint framed of "Murph's Law" in my laundry room that I need to read again, as that sums up most of our luck with home repairs. The dreaded, "This has never happened before and it looks like shit" comment from man yesterday will be embroidered and framed to add to the Murph's Law saying.

347 Yeah, there was a recent episode of Modern Family where the two Dads got all worried because Lily announced she was gay. Turns out, she thought she was gay because the Dads were. Posted by: Sherry McEvil, Stiletto Corsettes C'est Magnifique at April 26, 2013 10:39 AM (kXoT0) It's the constant Liberal propaganda which is the cause of the current "gay" ascendency. Shows like "modern family" and "glee" are efforts to create a "normalization" effect towards homosexuality.

A few points.

1) I am still on paper a permanent Ohioan (military spouse)

2) I was a guest of Louisiana for ~5 years and they were wonderful years despite a shitty unit, my wife being gone half the time for the war, and our finances being narrow.  That was because of the people.  The resource is PEOPLE of good character and stout hearts.

3) I absolutely agree with damn near everything you posted in the 382 post.

My personal ambition is to aid the Pioneer Project in establishing a tighter C2 suite for the horde and setting up a relocation charity or donation group.

No bullshit I want mobile Morons who are inclined to come try to scout out and if they decide 'yes" make a go of the ArkLaTexOk

I will once able use my treasure and my life to aid the region no matter where I live.

I believe the dying embers of Locke and Smith will be if kept aglow anywhere kept smoldering in that region.

The coasts are cheerfully driving into a storm.

While not agreeing hard with Vic and being in the 'taxpayer or earn the damn thing via service and sacrifice" card  that said EoJ and not trying to act like "Sven" internet badass...

Vic is not so much as I have read him saying "man yes yes I want this because it is moral and great" he is simply saying "this solution matrix would have produced Y"

I still disagree and think the limit should be as stated above.

I support the notion of "civil rights" if they are restricted to 'be fair and let people earn their way into citizenship" but not the set aside patronage horseshit they've evolved into...

there's no easy path out of this and I am sincere in my fear authoritarianism is coming of one stripe or another.

'ettes I love you hell in wife's case literally love her....

'rons I love you in a manly way

Yes we should be trying to bring more "blocs" in the fold but considering the GOP way seems to be outdonking the donk and we refuse to act as though our schools are enemy indoctrination camps I think that aids the decline and impact of our system....

we are supposed to be individuals not tribes.

415 Just as long as they still allow coonasses to vote.

Probably  not.  Remember David Duke's NAAWP newsletter?  He  was going to relocate all of us up to Vermont.  I'm guessing  the right to vote wouldn't be included.

417 Have you ever been in comments section at this place called Ace of Spades HQ, where childless women are routinely denounced as "selfish" and "irresponsible" and "immature" (and childless men are "smart" for "avoiding the traps")? If only I'd maturely whored around with deadbeats after high school and generously allowed you all to pay the bills. Sigh. Posted by: HeideRadieschen at April 26, 2013 10:52 AM (/kI1Q) I've been in the Ace of Spades comment section plenty of times, but I do not recall ever seeing that characterization of childless women. I do not agree with it. I applaud those women who have children, but I do not criticize those who do not.

419 There is nothing wrong with having women vote, so long as they are paying taxes and are therefore subject to the feeling the PAIN of government excess. How about the pain of staying home and taking care of the kids while Dad is bringing home the bacon. Does that qualify as paying taxes though her name is not on the W-2? Posted by: polynikes at April 26, 2013 10:58 AM (m2CN7) If you can demonstrate how this will engender a restraint on government spending, then i'll go along with it. The whole point is to make government spending painful to the voters when it is increased, with a mind towards reducing it down to only what is necessary.

421 A can't prove it but I'm pretty sure we are stuck with women voting.

422 And let me reiterate, I am not advocating removing the vote from women and minorities. Hell, I am part Cherokee. Posted by: Vic at April 26, 2013 11:04 AM (53z96) Me too, but I have to admit you picked a bad choice of words in an attempt to make your point.

423 The coasts are cheerfully driving into a storm. Posted by: sven10077@sven10077 at April 26, 2013 11:12 AM (LRFds) And this is what I see as well. First secure the heartland, then once the means are established, retake the coasts. This is my thinking.

425 #417

There is sound science behind using 25 as a minimum age. Studies in recent years have found that it is the age when the brain fully matures.

Personally, I'd favor 30 as the minimum voting age. Physical maturity of the brain is a good starting point but it needs to be in operation a few years to get the best result. With the advance of medicine, a child born today who doesn't vote until age 30 will likely participate in more elections than his forbears who first voted at 18.

426 Thread's probably dead, but Ann Barnhart addressed that - she said that when only men had the vote, they knew their choice would affect their entire family and chose accordingly. When women got the franchise, the single ones could vote for government to be their husband / daddy. 427 a lot of our idiocy is possible only because thus far our wealth has insulated us from the adverse impact of the greed and crony impacts on the system.... and the slouching towards Argentina is only possible because the democrats literally buy votes. Posted by: sven10077@sven10077 at April 26, 2013 11:14 AM (LRFds) Absolutely correct! I have long argued that this nation is the victim of it's own prosperity. Too much money makes idiocy seem more palatable.

428 we are supposed to be individuals not tribes. Posted by: sven10077@sven10077 at April 26, 2013 11:22 AM (LRFds) And decomposition into tribal factions is something of which I greatly fear. Let us not repeat the mistakes of the past if we can avoid them. I undertand Vic's point, but I think he chose a poor way to express it. He did clarify though.

429 Geeze, he still gets it wrong. I don't "hate" gays, I simply regard them in general, as people who have a psychological problem. In my mind, they are little different from people who think they are Napoleon.

Every leftist I've ever debated who wants to "fix" society has zero clue about systems engineering and feedback.  (Which is slightly critical to modifying our highly complex and interrelated politicoeocnomic system)

It's infuriating how they can be so ignorant about what they're doing and yet want to be in charge.

433 Further to Ace's commentary on the left from the other day, that bias exists in news organizations at many layers and one such layer is that they avoid looking at anything they don't want to have to actually see, and talk about in their reporting. This explains the pitifully superdicial coverage of mass murderer Kermit Gosnell, and another really good example arises in the NYT. Editorial Page editor Andrew Rosenthal is a moral coward, of course, but is also biased beyond any defense at all. He cannot even bring himself to describe the murder victims, living, breathing, moving, crying babies, as human. Instead, he calls them "viable fetuses". http://bit.ly/12LGskG

434 "The NYPD might have stopped the Tsarnaev brothers before they started." While the Boston Police Department responded effectively to last weekÂ’s marathon bombing, terrorism experts say that the attack, which killed three and injured more than 200, might well have been prevented had the perpetrators lived in New York City. . . .
