Heard something interesting on the news today...

Apparently there's some new technology being pilot tested by the DC police where the officer will wear a camera and record his interactions with people.  Kind of a wearable dash-cam thing and the reverse of a citizen recording the cop.

No word on if cops will continue to get prickly if citizens record the same interaction, and not sure how the cop's recording will safeguard against "accidental" erasure, but it seems like an interesting development to me.

The House voted yesterday to formerly establish he Benghazi committee.

The House voted 232-186 to approve the panel. The vote breakdown was 225 Republicans and 7 Democrats in favor, with 186 Democrats voting against the measure. The Democrats who backed the probe were all moderate to conservative party members who face tough re-election campaigns.

LOL, "conservative" Democrats?   What planet is this guy on?  I will investigate this further when I have time.

-------------------------------------------------------

Results of investigation looking for moderate and Conservative Democrat.  Note that how I figure A Republican is 90-100 = conservative; 89 – 50 = RINO what the MFM calls a moderate; < 50 = DIABLO

Highest Lifetime rating for a Democrat = 48.59 McIntyre – NC

Lowest Lifetime rating Democrat = 0 Sires – NJ

Average Lifetime Rating all Democrats =  5.12

Results there are no moderate or conservative Democrats if you classify them the same way the MFM classifies Republicans.

53 What an awful story about those Mismi cops. I hope they pay for what they did, but somehow I doubt it. What is going on with so many of the police? Or maybe stuff like this has always happened and they're just being more widely reported. I guess feeling above the law isn't new. I rember the one cop when I was in college in the late 90s/early 2000s who stopped at a red light. And then ran it, while I was stopped there at the red light waiting for it to turn green. I suppose you could shape the behavior a little. Their master should have trained them to "speak" on command, reward the barking, then when that's established just stop giving that command except as 'review'.

If you could figure out a way to get that training done, might help. Maybe a gift certicate to an obedience school...

131 Posted by: D-Lamp at May 09, 2014 09:55 AM (bb5+k) I would call Seattle's new $15/hr approaching utterly insane. The real question is, what unions there have their wages tied to minimum wage? That could be the real kicker actually, since Seattle is already so damned expensive they didn't have a ton of people actually making the old minimum wage ($9/hr). So it won't be an automagical $6 jump. On average more like $3-4. (Not insignificant but it blunts the impact.) Now if Seattle has a lot of union employees (and honestly I don't know) and they're tied directly to minimum wage (which isn't entirely uncommon) that could be where the largest effect comes from.

133 The goal of the pro-polygamy crowd is to any sort of social arrangement that doesn't involve the government. The goal is to create a society where every crack-pot form of "family" has to be treated as equal and legitimate. Polygamy is simultaneously harmful to men and women. It's harmful to women because it encourages men to move from one woman to another, to divide any resources among multiple partners, and it turns many of them into chattel for high status men. It harms men because many of the are deprived of the opportunity for mates, not to mention that the loss of fidelity means uncertainty about paternity. If a woman with three male lovers gets pregnant, absent paternity tests there's no way to determine the father, denying him his right to be involved in his child's life.

175 I would call Seattle's new $15/hr approaching utterly insane. Damn, back when I was a small business owner, I had to start recalculating employee hours lower when FL raised its minimum wage like 50 cents or so. If they had raised it by six bucks I would have closed up shop the next day. These raise-the-minimum-wage assholes have no idea how much they're hurting small businesses with this bullshit. Most of these fucksticks don't realize that the only people they're helping are the large businesses they most likely despise, while the rest of them (like Rombley) know that this is exactly what will happen. And then the largest source of employment (small businesses) anywhere will start laying off employees or closing up shop and then the unemployment level will go up and all of these motherfucking assholes who don't know shit about fuck will be scratching their asses wondering why no one has a job and that their groceries are so high. And we'll be beset with more meaningless "Jobs Bills". /rant off

The thing is, I make that post (Barack Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a malignant traitor) as a statement of Fact. Yeah, it's fun to say, and the "stuttering clusterf*ck" thing is now a classic formulation, but the point is I sincerely believe that the current President of the United States provided aid and comfort to the enemy- that he is a Traitor in the legal sense of the word. I sincerely believe he should be impeached and removed from office, then prosecuted for treason with the legal punishment that goes with it. I'm really not sure what would be "worse" than that. We can call him the JEF and TFG all we want. If you want more vile epithets, I guess I can brainstorm some. But worse than a "tyrant" and far worse than a mere "failure," he's a traitor.

So someone noted that the pope apparently said that "redistribution" should be done, then said person asked if the pope would start with church properties, then mrp chimes in that the church sells off properties all the time, with the implication that that fact makes the pope not a hypocrite. I read lots of stuff about protecting the family with calls for personal charity and perhaps side mentions of politics, but you'd have to want to construe those as calling for government redistribution.
======

Thanks for the link, tsrbike.  There's nothing new, there.  More calling for personal charity and cajoling governments to protect the human dignity of all citizens, from conception to death. It's a criticism aimed at government leaders, not a call for communism.  Drudge tweaks the headlines for maximum impact.

BTW -- speaking of Serbs, as one must on occasion.  Did you know they actually celebrate the assassin Gavrilo Princip who plunged the world into war and chaos for the better part of a century?:

A new monument to Princip is due to go up in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, where children are taught that he was struggling for a just cause. Serbia will be minting a silver coin with his face on it to mark the centenary, and the government will stage exhibitions.

The Serbian Orthodox church meanwhile has proclaimed the assassin a national hero. "Gavrilo Princip was just defending his freedom and his people," a leading cleric, Metropolitan Amfilohije, said recently. "In Serbia, there is still the old narrative from the former Yugoslavia, which says that the first world war happened because there was this great hero called Gavrilo Princip," Sebek said.

In smaller towns (where everybody knows everybody), it's often better (though it can actually be worse), because the cop doesn't want to be known as "that guy." In bigger towns, inertia and large police associations (read: unions by another name) make it hard/impossible to fire a cop, and the larger populace means its unlikely a given cop will ever run into a given citizen again. So less reason not to be a dick.

350 "Seattle says they can phase in the higher wage but they have argued back that they will not be able to get employees if the larger companies (think dominos vs mom and pop pizza)" Meh, those things are franchised, so if they raise the minimum wage by as much as they're talking, even the bigger name franchises are going to have a rough go of it. A small raise wouldn't be a big deal, but this kind of raise is going to jack their labor margin way the fuck out whack. So if they phase it in slowly through the municipal sector, taxes are going to go up (the first knock on the consumer), then prices will start to go up, and people will wonder why they're netting less money and paying 20 bucks for a large pizza with one topping.

Listen it's not perfect but, as things go, allows a fair amount of interpretation. But given the context of discussing the "Economy of exclusion" and "throw away culture" I think it's more than possible to say that the argument says the state should ensure that no one is excluded from a chance to participate in the economy. There's also a healthy bit about how we should voluntarily put ourselves at the service of others. Socialism kinda skips that voluntary part.

408 My favorite raise the minimum wage argument is those that claim that then people will have more money to spend so businesses will make more money. Well, except that it will put people out of work when the businesses fold, and raise the price of the items the businesses sell in order to pay the higher wage. But, yeah, sure businesses will be raking it right in.

479 Senator John McCain told a radio show recently that Americans should “accept” the notion that their private conversations are being recorded by the government, even in the privacy of their own homes.

McCain was asked by host Dan Patrick what his thoughts were on the Donald Sterling controversy, in particular the concept of private conversations being recorded and then released publicly. SterlingÂ’s controversial remarks became public after his girlfriend V. Stiviano taped hundreds of hours of private discussions between the two.

“What about taping somebody in his own home, using that…..” asked Patrick.

“It’s the world we’re living in, you don’t like it, but everything I say I expect to be recorded,” McCain responded.“It’s just the way we live, Dan. It’s something you’ve got to accept. I don’t particularly like it, but it is what it is,” added the Senator, making reference to a recent poll which revealed that 53% of Americans believed their telephone conversations were being listened to.

McCain went on to remark that young people were naive about government surveillance of private communications because the country had forgotten the lessons of 9/11.

“We’re all grown people and we have to realize we live in the 21st century,” added McCain.

494 People who come on the here trying to stir up trouble between Protestants and Catholics are either boring socks or trolls or people who need to realize that Jesus prayed that we all might be one. As I've I've noted before, the particular brand of Christianity one embraces as long as it's not leftist Christianity-state religion-won't make any difference. Leftists won't care if you're RC, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran. Anglican or Presbyterians, of Evangelical Non denominational, etc They will be out to destroy any threat to the State Church and Obama and whoever follows him as faux messiah. The Romans didn't like it either when the early Christians insisted the couldn't both worship God and Caesar. Do not feed the troll! Keep on praying!

581 The account of Jesus and Zacchaeus teaches us that above and beyond economic and social systems and theories, there will always be a need to promote generous, effective and practical openness to the needs of others. Jesus does not ask Zacchaeus to change jobs nor does he condemn his financial activity; he simply inspires him to put everything, freely yet immediately and indisputably, at the service of others. Consequently, I do not hesitate to state, as did my predecessors (cf. JOHN PAUL II,Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, 42-43; Centesimus Annus, 43; BENEDICT XVI, Caritas in Veritate, 6; 24-40), that equitable economic and social progress can only be attained by joining scientific and technical abilities with an unfailing commitment to solidarity accompanied by a generous and disinterested spirit of gratuitousness at every level. A contribution to this equitable development will also be made both by international activity aimed at the integral human development of all the worldÂ’s peoples and by the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the State, as well as indispensable cooperation between the private sector and civil society.

So, the State can make a contribution but it is left to the rest of us to provide for actual sharing.

619 The only "legitimate" redistribution of wealth is that which is voluntary. Freely and voluntarily giving of charity to the less fortunate is a noble choice of self-sacrifice, not to mention a Christian principle. On the other hand, there is nothing at all noble about it when it's involuntary. Nor is voting to force others make involuntary contributions in the form of higher taxes. It's no longer "charity" when the choice to do so has been taken away. I don't believe you get extra God credit God by advocating for other people to be forced to give. That only comes from choosing to give yourself, with your own effort and/or out of your own pocket. Of course many of the people who advocate for others to involuntarily pay more use it as justification for not doing more (or anything at all) themselves.

652 What pisses me off about the Pope is he's playing fast and loose with Theology for his own hobby horse political issues.

I of course understand that we are to privately help the poor and those in need, but the idea of redistribution is completely different and not a Biblical concept.

You'll have to show me in the Bible the percentages of how much people are allowed to have versus other people in society.

And our absolute poorest live better than rulers and emperors did in Biblical times.

The Catholic Church has a Pope that's using his position to score points for his political ideology.

671 To all of these clowns agitating for a 40+% hike in the minimum wage id like to see how you deal with a 40% hike in your monthly expenses? ----------------- In Seattle: SEIU Local 775 president David Rolf has been quoted as claiming the minimum wage boost “will pump nearly $500 million into Washington’s economy, proving that a higher minimum wage fuels business and job growth.” ---------------- Math, how does that work?

685 All I know is, this Sammy Watkins better be worth the 2015 1st rounder The Bills gave up to move up 5 spots in yesterday's 1st round. That's a high price for 5 spots. Bills fans are ambivalent, to say the least (WGR 55 SportsRadio poll): What do you think about the Bills giving up their first round pick in 2015? Bravo Bills! Love them "going for it" ( 35% ) Its a high price but Watkins will be worth it ( 32% ) I don't like it at all ( 32% )

686 Oh man. That Miami po po shooting? CBS4 News has learned a total of 23 officers fired a total of at least 377 rounds. Bullets were sprayed everywhere. They hit the Volvo, other cars in the lot, fence posts and neighboring businesses. They blasted holes in a townhouse where a 12-year-old dove to the ground for cover and a four month old slept in his crib. http://tinyurl.com/pul9qe5

I don't think so.  Quinn sold a lot of jerseys but there were likewise a lot of fans who were leery of him.  Plus Holmgren hadn't totally wrecked the team at that point so season ticket sales were at a higher level.  I used to criticize Browns fans for slobbering over whatever trash Modell would toss out on the field but lately they've just said fuck everything and the draw is far from what it used to be.

Posted by: Captain Hate at May 09, 2014 08:46 AM (G+GiZ)

696 I'm certainly not trying to criticize the RCC, but I am criticizing this notion of "redistribution". There are plenty of things in the Vatican that the church has forgotten it even owns. Sell those things, and that'll add some real meat to the bones of Francis' comments. But I hate the word "redistribution". Most of the wealth we are talking about was fucking created by the owners. It didnt exist before they did whatever they did to make their dough. Those who want to take that wealth and give it away to poor Argentines should instead maybe focus their moral energy on criticizing whatever social and political forces are preventing Argentines from creating wealth of their own. Like socialism and Peronism.

697 I will criticize the Browns though. Growing up in Cleveland I learned early on that the glory days of Jim Brown, Jim Kelly and all the Browns greats were destined never to come again. It was a curse. Drafting short QBs probably won't help change that curse. Maybe this ownership can fix that, but I doubt it. For the Indians though, I always hold out hope.
