Fun Factoid: 2013 Amnesty "Penalty" Less Than The 2007 Version
— DrewM

$3,000 for a "Z-Visa" in 2007.

$500 "Fine" in 2013.

But don't call it amnesty.

This is a great example of why I'm done with the GOP.

That's Senator Bob Corker, co-author of the Corker-Hoeven faux security amendment.

The margin of difference between the Democrats and Republicans in too many areas simply isn't big enough to cower to the "but the Democrats are worse" line anymore.

Oh, one other fun factoid. Hoeven of Corker-Hoeven? Yeah, he got into the race for the Senate in 2010 when Democrat Byron Dorgan retired. Dorgan was a stanch opponent of amnesty.

1.  The COURTS have said it they are here in any legal status at all, they get Benefits... so the idea that they will not under this law... is a LIE.  Thus, the CBO numbers are a LIE.

2.  Congress has no Amnesty Power.  Congress especially has no power to grant amnesty to one class of people, and not the others, under the Equal Protection clause.  Thus, the idea that they get a pass for Identity Theft while others can still be prosecuted, is UnConstitutional.

3.  This is an Ex Post Facto Law.  They have already broken the law, with defined penalties... and the Supremes have ruled that the Penalties in effect when the Law is broken, are the operative Penalties.

Thus, on three counts, the law as written will not pass muster with the Courts... yet they are pushing it anyway.

Now the Republicans believe they can go forward with amnesty and still get most of the conservative vote in 2014 - because they saw what happened in 2012. We are totally f*cked because amnesty is the death knell for the United States - 30M more Democrat plantation voters means we will never change course.

“Can you say that again, please?” an audience member can be heard asking on the audio.

At least as a Floridian I'll get the satisfaction of voting against him when he's up for re-election.  That's the ONLY reason I am not yet leaving the Republican party.

Yeah. Donating directly to and voting for Tea Party candidates is the solution.

Point taken, My Queen.

If there is no way to properly vet a candidate, how can we   find   one that won't screw us over?

Part of me want's to  believe in the Kobiashi Maru  Scenario, and the other part of me just wants to drink. If there's no way to avoid getting screwed, the second option starts looking better and better.

Posted by: BackwardsBoy, who did not vote for this shit at June 23, 2013 02:47 PM (0HooB)

95 I'm still convinced that the Tea Party can take over the RNC by making direct contributions to the TP candidates themselves. This takes money away from the national machinery, and as we've seen in the IRSS's targeting of TP orgs, that's extremely effective: it's how we have TFG for four more years.

Now, I could be wrong, and would actually welcome the Horde's opinion on this strategy. Is this something that can be done effectively? Posted by: BackwardsBoy, who did not vote for this shit at June 23, 2013 06:37 PM

Call Repubs racist nazis. Win back the House. Pass Amnesty in 2015. That's their plan at least. We should clearly at least fight for #2. Last time they had mass rallies it backfired. It might again this time. Delaying defeat is better than nothing. A miracle might occur. Once Amnesty is passed we are fucked forever.

158 Once again,  I want to point out how too many of us are led around by the silver-tongues speakers.  And it wasn't just us lowly voters,  many bloggers and pundits thought that Rubio was the real deal.  This includes Rush Limbaugh,  some people here,  and various and sundry political writers who thought that Rubio was so articulate in explaining the Reagan vision.

OK,  so now have we ALL learned that it is DEEDS NOT WORDS?

I supported Perry until he withdrew,  but by God he would have been a better candidate and fought for US.   But NO,  he flubbed up in the debates?

We are allowing the talkers in this world (principally the press and TV people) to make THEIR talents the benchmark of a good candidate.  Well, screw that.   We would have been better off with a guy who shot a coyote to defend his dog rather than the one who put his dog  on the top of the car.  And Perry would at least have gone down fighting.

And Rubio should have been vetted better.  I am not sure we wouldn't have been better with Charlie Crist;  at least we would have EXPECTED the back stabbing and would have been on the lookout.

However,  if you ask me Crist was being blackmailed,  and I now think Rubio is being blackmailed as well.  The other alternative is that he just said whatever would get him elected and is an amoral, unprincipled ruthless weasel.  I am not sure which is worse.

Neither Corker nor Alexander really represent anyone's interests and are a poor fit for TN.

172 Gosh, I'm sorry the movers and shakers of Tennessee, the powers behind the throne, without whose support Corker and Alexander would not act, think the rest of us are stupid. Because we aren't, you know. Perhaps best to just leave that state to itself, if the people in influence there can't even argue squarely. It's a nice state, but not enough so that I'll voluntarily check my brain in at the door. I sorta expected better from the Volunteer State, but perhaps they are better doers than thinkers. Based upon who they send to the Senate, it would certainly seem so. Pity.

Obama had a smooth tongue and it helped get him elected. Ultimately we face human problems, not system problems. And human problems aren't going away. We tried to make a system that would resist corruption, and it didn't. Well, not forever. In theory, with a big enough reform movement that has genuine penalties and opens the process for scrutiny, we could "fix" things to an extent that most of us could get back to leading our lives - at which point the process begins again. But it would be an extension, at least.

268 "The margin of difference between the Democrats and Republicans in too many areas simply isn't big enough to cower to the 'but the Democrats are worse' line anymore."

Been saying this since late last year. But it's actually worse than that, I've come to realize. The GOP's primary function in American politics since the New Deal has been to (A) slow down the pace at which America moves down the trajectory set by the left without changing said trajectory in the slightest, and (B) to prevent a genuine opposition movement from taking root and rising up, by channeling into itself the energies that would otherwise be spent building such a movement.

Go Independent, go Constitution Party, Go Libertarian (eh, at least they're open about their support for amnesty), make a new party--whatever. But break away from the GOP. We'll find our way, and things will get worse before they get better--much worse--but the journey has to start by ceasing our support of this entity that wastes our time and resources. It's just not worth the investment anymore. Trying to start a genuine revolution by voting for Republicans is like trying to get a girl pregnant with anal sex; it might feel good sometimes, but it won't start a family.

One of them may have been intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system, and the other three exploded in open areas. There were no physical injuries or damages. Earlier, terrorists fired three rockets towards the Bnei Shimon Regional Council. The rockets exploded in open areas, causing no physical injuries or damages. The selection process seems kind of "casual" for a secret assassination campaign. Also the reversal of traditional CIA/Military roles, having the CIA do more actual hits, which starts to get into Rules of War territory. Haven't read the book yet, just some reviews. He had just polished off a huge meal of fried prawns and eight cocktails at the hotel’s outdoor eatery, sources said. He was vacationing with his son. It usually takes at least one week to work through international red tape and ship a body home. But Gandolfini rep Michael Kobold thanked HBO, United Airlines, Secretary of State John Kerry, former President Clinton, former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, US Embassy vice counsel Patricia Hill and Italian officials for speeding things up. “We are fully aware that this process usually takes seven days and we are extremely grateful for their efficiency in dealing with this matter,” Kobold said. 319 The last time we checked in with Florida Atlantic University instructor Deandre Poole, Ph.D., who was just rewarded with a contract renewal by the school, he was advising his students to write the name “Jesus” on a piece of paper, then place the paper on the floor and stomp on it. When a student took offense and complained about the assignment that came to be known as “Stomp Jesus,” the story went viral. Much of the angst resulting from the national firestorm was directed at Poole, who was eventually placed on administrative leave for safety reasons. In a Friday news dump, Heather Coltman, interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters, stated that Poole “was offered and has accepted an appointment as an instructor, beginning with the 2013 summer term.” A move that could prompt those who took issue with the Stomp Jesus incident to wonder if FAU stands for “F… all U.” Keep in mind, in the ensuing controversy, Gov. Rick Scott publicly reprimanded FAU over the incident, the school apologized and, eventually, the beleaguered FAU president resigned. And through it all, Deandre Poole, who is also vice-chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party, was quiet. But he is silent no longer, according to the Sun Sentinel, which reported that “he’s ecstatic to have his job back.” Interestingly, FAU knows the decision to retain Poole is controversial. “We thought it was in the university’s best interest,” Coltman wrote. After saying Poole “would be a valuable asset to the college,” she added: “I understand this decision may not be popular with all members of the community, but it was based on months of thorough research and consideration.” ???? What kind of Country is this anymore?
