Funniest Story You'll Read This Week
— Ace

The official sign-language guy at the Nelson Mandela funeral was... a fake.

He just was moving his hands randomly.

Now that I'm informed this was the case, it seems pretty obvious.

The Daily Mail has a funny quote from someone who spotted the guy as a fake: he was merely "flapping his arms about."

He translated Barack Obama's statement that Nelson Mandela was "an unwavering beacon for those seeking the shores of freedom and dignity" by just miming the hand-signals from MC Hammer's 2 Legit 2 Quit.

Okay not really. But he is basically just doing hand-jive dance moves.

I don't care who you are, this is just f***in funny. dan-O says this man is now his hero.

I wonder how long he's been getting away with this?

And just because some of you are now thinking "Hey, I want to hear 2 Legit 2 Quit."

Thanks to dan-O.

45 Here is the real background story: read it and weep/laugh: http://www.sfgate.com/news/world/article/Mandela-ceremony-interpreter-called-a-fake-5054326.php "The sign-language interpreter on stage at Nelson Mandela's globally broadcast memorial service was a faker who was just waving his arms around meaninglessly, advocates for the deaf said Wednesday. The unidentified man seen around the world on television next to leaders including United States President Barack Obama "was moving his hands around but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for," Bruno Druchen, the federation's national director, told The Associated Press. The allegation was yet another example of bad organization at the historic memorial service Tuesday, which was marred by public transportation breakdowns that hindered mourners from getting to the soccer stadium venue. In addition a faulty audio system made the remarks of world leaders inaudible for many. Police also failed to search the first wave of crowds who rushed inside the stadium after authorities opened the gates just after dawn. ... Four sign language experts, including Druchen, said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages and could not have been signing in any other known sign language because there was no structure to his arm and hand movements. South African sign language covers all of the country's 11 official languages, according to the federation. ... The man also did sign interpretation at an event last year that was attended by South African President Jacob Zuma, Druchen said. At that appearance, a deaf person in the audience videotaped the event and gave it to the federation for the deaf, which analyzed the video, prepared a report about it and a submitted a formal complaint to the ANC, Druchen said. In their complaint, the federation suggested that the man should take the five years of training needed to become a qualified sign language interpreter in South Africa. But the ANC never responded, Druchen said. Druchen said a fresh complaint will be filed to the ANC about the interpreter he called a "fake" with a demand for an urgent meeting. ... Bogus sign language interpreters are a problem in South Africa, because people who know a few signs try to pass themselves off as interpreters, said Parkin, the principal of the school for the deaf. And those hiring them usually don't sign, so they have no idea that the people they are hiring cannot do the job, she said. "They advertise themselves as interpreters because they know 10 signs and they can make some quick money," said Parkin. "It is plain and simple abuse of the deaf community, they are taking advantage of the deaf community to make money." "

107 OT. Oh hell no I'm not done with you heathens yet Behold the power and knowledge of a BEARS FAN!!! 314 283. Okay Taken from the lumen gentium ( the dogmatic constitution of the Catholic Church) off the vatican's real website at Vatican . Va Chapter 3 art 22 But the college or body of bishops has no authority unless it is understood together with the Roman Pontiff, the successor of Peter as its head. The pope's power of primacy over all, both pastors and faithful, remains whole and intact. In virtue of his office, that is as Vicar of Christ and pastor of the whole Church, the Roman Pontiff has full, supreme and universal power over the Church. And he is always free to exercise this power. The order of bishops, which succeeds to the college of apostles and gives this apostolic body continued existence, is also the subject of supreme and full power over the universal Church, provided we understand this body together with its head the Roman Pontiff and never without this head.(27*)

Uh-uh.  Peruvian.  The Peruvian language   changes constantly because of the    endemic Peruvian distrust of    linguists.     Peruvian sign language is    essentially anything the interpreter chooses to do, with the expectation that the audience will understand what s/he means from context clues in the surroundings.   So   in Peruvian sign language, jumping up and down under a cherry tree while balancing   an  anthology of Christina Rossetti's poetry on your head could mean, "Look at my    amazing hopping skills," "I have wonderful posture," or "I would like a cherry."

Of course, it could also mean, "The enemy approaches,    prepare the artillery barrage."   This is why Peruvian sign language has been    at the heart of most of the bloodiest, most protracted wars throughout Peruvian history.

It's all about context.

165 Standard ANC cronyism...hired because he was the correct race and had political connections. Who knows how many qualified people were turned away because of their race? Just google 'BEE South Africa'.

And, it's not as though sign language is a widely held skill in any country. I'd imagine in South Africa, population 50 million, with only about 5-6 million middle class Africans, there really aren't that many that are both deaf and have the educational background to do this job.

Which brings up the larger point...why is it now an international norm to have a sign language interpreter on stage for every event? This started out as a DNC thing to cater to 1/5 of 1% of the US population, as the ADA lobby is a sizable Democrat constituency. Could it be that the global left saw Obama's speeches 2008-2012 with the requisite interpreter and just assumed having an interpreter front and center is now a sine qua non condition of civility and 'progressiveness'?

We're far enough into the thread that I think I can go OT and say the nominations are out for the SAG Awards, and I'm proud to say I haven't heard of at least 2/3 of the movies that got nominated.  As for the TV categories, the only people I'd like to see win are either Steve Buscemi or Peter Dinklage for Best Actor in a Drama Series (not because I watch the shows, but because I know they're great actors) and the stunt ensemble for "The Walking Dead."  All the rest of them are dead to me.

And why exactly did    the cast of "Arrested Development's"    poorly received Netflix resurrection get nominated for a best ensemble in a comedy award?

THE TRUTH ABOUT NELSON MANDELA

His Crimes:

This is what Terrorist Nelson Mandela was indicted for:

Should any person in the US today be indicted for similar crimes, no doubt he would be incarcerated without trail in Guantanamo bay for life.

..The Crimes of Terrorist Nelson Mandela

Read here the crimes of the clever terrorist Nelson Mandela (most have never heard of, denied the opportunity by the treacherous liberal media) and understand why Amnesty International never accepted him as a political prisoner. Even as the world finally woke up to how wicked Winnie Mandela is, we must face reality about how dangerous and deceitful Nelson Mandela has been.

The fact is that even Amnesty International refused to take on Nelson Mandela's case because they asserted that he was no political prisoner but had committed numerous violent crimes and received a fair trial and a reasonable sentence.

Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe, (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. He had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilizing terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Many innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela's MK terrorists.

South African President P.W. Botha had, on a number of occasions, offered Nelson Mandela freedom from prison, if he would only renounce terrorist violence. This Mandela refused to do. - Invictus Idolatry

MandelaÂ’s Legacy:

Nelson Mandela's Legacy: 210 White Farmers Murdered by Blacks (Per Year) Since 1994 in South AfricaWhat is Nelson Mandela's legacy? Genocide Watch tells us simply this: Since 1994, more than 70000 (and counting)white South Africans have been murdered of which more than 4000 were commercial farmers. Exact figures are very hard to come by as the South African police fail to report most of the murders that take place.
Nelson Mandela unleashed the black rippers in South Africa.  These numbers are thus conservatively estimated. As the white population of South Africa was 4 434 697 according to the official state census in 1996, and more than 400 000 white South Africans have left the country, it could be estimated that nearly 2% of white South Africans have been murdered in the 18 years of democracy. Compare that to the 7518 black people that were murdered by the Apartheid government, which comes to a percentage of 0.02% of the black population. (And no, you can't compare people killed by the security forces with people killed by civilians, but I'm sure that if you look up white on black civilian murders during Apartheid, it would still be very low indeed.)There were roughly 128 000 commercial farmers in South Africa in 1980. Today there are 40000 commercial farmers left in South Africa. Since 1994, more than 4000 farmers have been murdered and many more maimed, tortured, raped and assaulted. It was established that more white farmers die per year is South Africa than soldiers in Vietnam

Remember the truth of lynching in the United States? Though Oprah Winfrey claimed "millions of black people were lynched," it turns out 3,446 blacks were lynched between 1882-1968 a period of 86 years.  From 1882-1968, 4,743 lynchings occurred in the United States. Of these people that were lynched 3,446 were black. The blacks lynched accounted for 72.7% of the people lynched.  Out of the 4,743 people lynched only 1,297 white people were lynched. That is only 27.3%. Many of the whites lynched were lynched for helping the black or being anti lynching and even for domestic crimes.

So, over a span 86 years, 3,446 black people were lynched (many were lynched for actual crimes, mind you); that's roughly 40 lynchings per year vs. 210 white farmers murdered per year in South Africa..

AND NELSON’S LOVELY WIFE WINNIE “NECKLACE” MANDELA

In the late Eighties, Winnie's thuggish bodyguards, the Mandela United Football Club, terrorised Soweto. Club "captain" was Jerry Richardson, who died in prison last year while serving life for the murder of Stompie Moeketsi, a 14-year-old who was kidnapped with three other boys and beaten in the home where we would soon sit, sipping coffee. Winnie was sentenced to six years for kidnap but reduced to a fine on appeal.

Members of the gang would later testify to South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission that Winnie had ordered the torture, murder and kidnap of her own people, and even participated directly.

Her reputation was damaged by such rhetoric as that displayed in a speech she gave in Munsieville on 13 April 1986, where she endorsed the practice of “necklacing” (burning people alive using rubber tires around their necks, filled with fuel and then set on fire) by saying: "[W]ith our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country."[8] Further tarnishing her reputation were accusations by her bodyguard, Jerry Musivuzi Richardson, that she had ordered kidnapping and murder.  On 29 December 1988, Richardson, who was coach of the Mandela United Football Club (MUFC), which acted as Mrs. Mandela's personal security detail, abducted 14-year-old James Seipei (also known as Stompie Moeketsi) and three other youths from the home of a Methodist minister, Rev. Paul Verryn, claiming she had the youths taken to her home because she suspected the reverend was sexually abusing them. The four were beaten to get them to admit to having had sex with the minister. 14 year old Seipei was accused of being an informer, and his body later found in a field with stab wounds to the throat on 6 January 1989.
