Funny: Adam Carolla on the Value of Shaming

Personally I think this ship has sailed. It's true, but the ship has sailed.

Americans' most cherished right is to be fat, dumb, lazy, entitled, selfish and cowardly without anyone making them "feel bad" about it.

Anyway, Carolla says something here that made me laugh out loud so I'll quote it. (Also, I need a fresh post.)

Â“I say good,Â” Carolla declared. Â“ThatÂ’s all we have. ThatÂ’s all we have ever had, is as a society. I mean, there are not enough counselors or dietitians or cops. We have to shame. I would like to expand the shaming to welfare moms and deadbeat dads and people who think itÂ’s a good idea to fly in flip flops. I want shaming. It keeps society in order.Â”

O'Reilly wondered if there wasn't any exception for compassion. Carolla had none of it.

Â“Well, listen, I think they are going to get beat up by society no matter what,Â” Carolla replied. Â“I mean, prom season is not great when youÂ’re fat. And dating is tough. And even job interviews. I mean, society gets its pound of flesh out of these people. Â… But, eventually when there is more of them than there are of us, they will literally crush us. This way, if you think about it Â… theyÂ’re going to take over the world with their enormity.Â”

Laughed out loud.

Speaking of which, apparently some plus-sized model* can now claim the world's record for world's biggest hips -- eight feet around.

Dude.

Sir Mix-A-Lot just issued a public apology and retraction.

I visit a doctor for a dermatology issue, they ignore that and tell me I'm fat. There are entire newspapers devoted to mocking celebrities who go from 97 pounds to 103 pounds--OMG! But anyone who thinks that fat people are only fat because they don't get enough negative feedback from society is a complete fucking idiot.

I think you need to differentiate bad behavior, deadbeat dad, welfare mom, pot smoking meth head pan handling hippy, from the bald, overweight, acne types.

Some are poor choices that are a drain on society, some are less of a poor choices that kind of dont really matter.

He is actually making a big government argument and doesn't realize it. If we were doing it right, it wouldn't matter who was fat or not because they would be carrying their own weight, so to speak.

We've been fed a lot of junk science with an agenda to demonize fat people in the push for socialized medicine. Not all of them are gluttons or lazy. I am not fat myself, but I am a health care professional, and I can tell you that there are meds, treatments, diseases, conditions, disorders, mental health issues, sudden loss of ability to exercise.. all kinds of reasons people gain weight. You can't look at a person and know why they are big. Stop listening to the people that are pushing hate in the name of socialized medicine and use your brain.
