— Gang of Gaming Morons! Well, here is the screen on the 2DS

Nvidia had press conference this past week, nothing too interesting to come out of it outside of: announcing a 780 TI version which is supposed to slot between the 780 and the Titan cards (out next month)
Shadowplay which is a GPU level based streaming to Twitch
that they renamed their streaming tech to their Shield to Gamestream and that with the handheld's HDMI out, it goes into a console mode that lets you use it use a different to play your PC games on your TV.
Really, it was a quite uneventful press conference until they dropped a pretty big bomb. They announced that they have created a mod for monitors that makes them have veritable refresh rates. Now, this may not actually sound that interesting until you realize that if they work the way it's supposed to, this means the death of screen tearing which has been a long time coming. Should also bring a little boost to the quality of 3D Vision. They are going to have two flavors, you can buy the boards for you to install yourself (no price was given) or wait till next year for the OEMs to have it built into their new monitors. It works with the Kepler cards (660 and above). May not be 'sexy' news but it's a pretty big deal.
They also have another presser on Monday which no one really knows what it's going to be on. It's just dubbed 'super secret'.
Don't think this is considered video gaming related but Apple is having a conference on Tuesday. Main things people are expecting is the new iPad which should be 64bit and different colors and that they might be showing off a new Apple TV which with the iOS 7 having built in controller support should make it into a quasi console with it's regular stuff.
In news that shouldn't really surprise many, Square announced Kingdom Hearts 2.5 for the PS3 to release next year. It will contain:
•Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
•Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix
•Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
Also at the Japanese version of the D23 Expo, Square showed off some Kingdom Hearts 3 gameplay
In the battle of nextgen basketball games, you have NBA 2K14 in one corner:
And in the other you have NBA Live 14
• With being a month out for the new console releases, it's last call for game delays and two stepped up to the plate.
• Japan gonna Japan. Here is a new trailer for the upcoming re-release of Criminal Girls on the PSVita
• Haven't checked it out yet but the 0.22 update to Kerbal Space Program has come out. The main thing that it add is the career mode. And new update means a new fun trailer. Buy it damn it, there is tons of content for the small price of $23
Not one but two new story trailers for Ryse
The IOS adaptation of the boardgame, Stone Age is currently on sale down from $6.99 to $4.99. I really dug this myself as the online multiplayer is good and it pares down some of the intricities of the actual boardgame. Appshopper link
As the year winds down, it's about time for Out of the Park to start putting their seminal baseball sims on sale. This year's iOS version of the game is currently down to a buck. The series may not be as robust as the PC game but the meat is still there. Worth the buck. Appshopper link
Flat out, though Battle of the Bulge for the iOS is an original boardgame made specifically for the iPad, it's one of the best on the appshop. It's just a really good war boardgame with enough depth to keep you on your toes. It's down from it's $10 price to a modest $5.99. Appshopper link
Groupees is really hit or miss on their PC build a bundles but their current "Let's Build a Doujin Bundle 2" is really good. It's $4.29 for all of the games but the main ones that I think people should check out are: Exceed 3, KAMUI, Armed Seven but the big ones is the first half of the Higurashi series and Hatoful Boyfriend. The first three games are pretty solid shmups. If you can get over the fugly graphics (which you can fix a little bit with the PS2 graphic patch), Higurashi is one twisted little murder mystery visual novel (think a book with graphics and multiple choices). Hatoful Boyfriend is more about the oddness of playing a decently written romantic visual novel staring pigeons. LINK
Amazon has some decent sales on PC games, namely Bioshock Infinite for $10
Lego Marvel Superheroes (everything) - Never really got into these games but this is the latest one and except for the Wii, it's on everything under the sun.
Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies (3DS) - Well, Capcom really didn't want to release this game over here but they did finally relent though by giving us at least an eshop release. Run ya $30
Batman: Arkham Origins (PC, 360, PS3 and Wii U) - I keep forgetting this game is coming out and to be frank, I've been kinda over the Arkham games about half way through Arkham City.
That's it for the week,
The Dude

Hell, same thing for Xbox One. There's what, Ryse, and that's about it. IIRC, Titanfall is a 2014 release as are Destiny and the new Halo.

My experience with the Arkham games is the same as with the Assassin's Creed games. They're really fun for a few days and then I get bored and they gather dust.

Got a beta invite for Hearthstone. It complained that my trusty HP Mini 210 doesn't have enough memory. It's a fargin' card game! Why wouldn't 2GB be plenty?
Haven't had a chance to download KSP 0.22. I had problems with 0.21; sound going away in map mode. I was hoping they had fixed it in 0.22, but judging by traffic on the forums, they haven't. So it'll probably still 0.20 for me, anyway.

Which one?
I understand the push to get the systems out in time for Christmas 2013 but I wonder how many people are like me and who aren't going to bother upgrading until 2014 when all the big next gen titles (Watch Dogs, Destiny, The Order, Titanfall, Quantum Break) release. By that point, supplies should be walk in and buy and all the roll out bugs should be fixed.

How do you get those, because I have AA and AC and they both installed with Games for Windows. I wish Ubisoft would do this as well.
And I've gotten a free copy of Arkham Origins because I bought a new graphics cardthat I plan to do SLI with and I didn't realize it but it had a deal for a copy of Origins, so I got myself a Steam key for it.

The only complicating factor is the online factor has increased the dependence on external infrastructure and timed events. Since the first console to have built-in connectivity, the Dreamcast, there have been more and more games that become useless once the servers go away. Up until now, this has been a very limited number of titles but I fear it could increase considerably.
A related concern is the number of games that are severely broken as shipped. In about three or four years from now, somebody shopping for used PS3 or 360 games may find they can no longer download the patches for a game they've acquired. The only versions that would retain any value would be the 'Game of the Year' editions that should have all patches and much DLC already on the disc. Though in the case of Skyrim they gave up on fixing a lot of the bugs and just moved on to new projects.

Well Lego Batman 2/DC Heroes has some voice acting.
It sorta caused some controversy on their web boards, but I found it to be a nice touch.
Then again I also took great glee in the Lego Star Wars games having better acting than the Lucas "new trilogy" so there's that.

for extra rage fuel rage add in that the DLC is as buggy as the main game in most cases, and on Skyrim the SOBs made high-def graphics packs a separate update that was also screwy.
Great work.
The ONLY saving grace is the community winds up putting out UOPs that fix it and some of the smythes there make better content than the devs.
The modified Breezehome rocks.

I don't mind if it's stuff that has only a subset audience. I was going to hold out for the GOTY version of Uncharted 2 but when it arrived all of the added material was solely for multi-player and useless to me. Release date DLC that follows the same pattern I can ignore.

It was higher in the cartridge era. $80 games on the SNES and Genesis were common, especially for big third party releases that were pushing the then limits on ROM capacity. Street Fighter II for the SNES was one of these, being the first or nearly the first 16 Mb game shipped. Third party games with lesser ROM usage but small production runs also tended to get up into that price range. Or the few games that had the FX chip and smallish ROM usage.
Kind of like how Chinese manufacturing hid a lot of inflation of the US$, the savings from the shift to optical media covered a lot of the increased development costs that optical media itself as part of more powerful platforms required. But we have long since overwhelmed those savings.

HaSeraphim, the Khyber server guild of DDO is now level 20 and our airship is operational. anyone interested is very welcome to join.
DDO is doing something weird with forced groupings upon entering dungeons. I have to admit to booting anyone who is forced to group with me since I . Want. To. Solo. (or be in a group of my choice, but still). I'm wondering if they're short on something or other and have run themselves into a corner by having *all* quest create new instances.

Were those imports? Because I've still got all of the pre-order goodies from Ocarina of Time including the EB receipt and it was $60, like most first party Nintendo 64 games with higher ROM usage or bundled items. (Rumble Pak with Star Fox, RAM PAK with DK World.)
I'm putting together a collector's package of some Nintendo stuff that will go on Craig's List. The centerpiece will be the Zelda sword letter opener Nintendo sent out to people on their press list during the OoT launch buildup. The pre-order stuff will go in there and some other debris I've had in storage forever. The press kit for the Yoshi game. There i a CD of Blue Note jazz tracks that was used to promote a game but I'm blanking on which one.

@33 - Dead Space 1 can best be summed up in a single word - fetch. That's it. That's the entire game - one fetch quest after another. The user interface and the atmosphere though are top notch, even if the story is a little on the meh side.
Dead Space 2, however, is sensational. Absolutely stellar. Scary, emotionally compelling, and with a strong story and characters who are characters in their own right and not just mute avatars. On paper, giving the main character a voice isn't the best idea, but it immediately alters the game into a role playing game and the series is stronger for it. Picked up DS3 the other day but haven't played it yet. My understanding is it's more action oriented which, not to give anything away, I'd be fine with as a little revenge does the body good.
Picked up Saints Row IV this weekend and it's absolutely the most deranged thing I've played. Hilarious, profane, and as addictive as the purest heroin too so players be warned. It's a massive rip-off of Crackdown and The Matrix, so your character is super powered almost right from the start. The brilliance of this cannot be understated. I'll take Saints Row IV over GTAV absolutely any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
