— Gang of Gaming Morons! Well, it's finally done. The production of the Wii has been put to rest. A system that not many people believed in ended up being one of the best selling consoles of all-time. Would have been interesting if Nintendo had supported it the last few years of it's life.

Short week since I'm drunk (Halloween parties and getting old sucks)
• It's confusing but Sony released an FAQ for the PS4 when it comes to sharing. I think it means that they're adopting what MS used on the 360 and XB1 but I'm not sure vOv
• Patchnotes for the PS4's day one download. It's not "mandatory" but yeah, it's kinda mandatory. Standard stuff for the most part outside of no blu-ray movie playing till it's updated (more than likely the launch systems are universal so this is used to lock in your region), I'm hoping this is just horribly written but it comes off as you can only do background music with a Music Unlimited account and no low power suspend feature at launch.
• No street dates for the DualShock 4 and PS4 camera so they're out in the wild at your local Gamestop.
• Finally get a release date for the first piece of DLC for Bioshock Infinite, Burial at Sea Episode 1. It's out on the 12th
• Still not a fan of Kickstarter but this intrigues me, creator of the seminal Red Baron game is looking to make a new one (and it's a decent article)
• Well, it's hot as hell, is a power hog and it's really loud but AMD finally beat the Titan with the R9 290X at a $550 price point. Its AMD so I really don't care per say but depending on how Nvidia reacts with their new cards next year, this probably puts the kibosh on me picking up a PS4 next year and just upgrade my tower to go with my planned purchase of a Rift (if it comes out). Or hell, just buy a pair of Google Glasses.
• TitanFall get's a release date, March 11th. They even announced a giant CE that will run you $250.
• Once again they turn to fanservice instead of working with the comics and novels. Ripley's daughter, Amanda (she was in the novelization and the Director's Cut of Alien) is the main character in the upcoming Alien: Isolation made by Creative Assembly (Total War series).
• Battle of the commercials.

• New X: Rebirth trailer came out. I really can't wait for this to come out.
• There is a current PSN sale going on. Frankly, I think the 10/22-10/28 sale is lackluster but the 10/29-11/04 has some gems in it. Fatal Frame 1 & 2 for $4 each ($2 if you're a Plus member) and the Siren remake for $20 ($10 for Plus members). Fatal Frame 3 & 4 and that Spirit Camera game weren't good but man I wish Nintendo didn't now own the IP as the second game is in my personal Top 3 Games of All-Time.
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (PC, 360, PS3, Wii U) - Your yearly Assassin's Creed. It can't suck as much as III can it?
Battlefield 4 (PC, 360, PS3) - Game was eh during it's beta and ran like dog doodoo. Think I'll be waiting on picking this up on my PC.
Sonic: Lost World (Wii U) - I really dug Sonic Generations but I own no Wii U. It's been getting decent reviews though
WWE 2K14 (360, PS3) - Never liked the Smackdown games and I don't think I'll dig this one. Ask someone else. LONG LIVE AKI SYSTEMS AND THE FIREPRO WRESTLING SERIES!!!
That's it, I'm out.

It seemed robust, with a nice design.
Why aren't they rolling out the Wii2?

Also, I once played packman just inside the entry to a diner in 1988. Also, I played Robocop on a Nintendo console in 1992. Why do you waste your time with fake drivel on a tv screen?

The news about the Red Baron reboot is pretty awesome. That game destroyed my grades in junior high.

One of the reasons I much prefer computer gaming to console gaming is that mod creation is pretty fun for me; it's one of the reasons I like Kerbal Space Program so much. While I've dabbled in 3d modeling and texturing for about 10 years, having a clear objective is a great way to build skills. Additionally, most of the "fun" mods for KSP are plugins written in C#, and I've learned a lot about programming from making my own plugins as well. In this way KSP, for me at least, is a much more encompassing game, in that I need to design rocket hardware and software to complete my objectives as efficiently as possible.
Does anyone else develop mods for your games?

Think Blu-Ray is, by design, region free.
Though its possible they're locking in the region for standard DVDs played on this thing.

I don't *exactly* develop mods; in my case, the relationship actually goes the other way.
Yes, I have a couple of personal WoW mods that I've written for my own use, as well as one that I picked up back in the 2.mumble timeframe and update as necessary to keep it running.
But about the time I started fiddling with WoW mods, I was smack in the middle of designing an embedded system for which I had decided I needed a scriptable front-end to configure the thing. I had been pushing around an idea for a custom FORTH system when Mrs. Chronda asked me to look at one of her mods that was giving her trouble.
WoW mods are written in Lua, a language designed for embedding within a larger application; in other words, it occupies the same space for which I was considering rolling my own FORTH.
As I played with Lua, I discovered that it is no harder to extend than the sort of FORTH system I was pushing around, but *much* more powerful.
So instead of rolling my own FORTH, I plunked Lua into my embedded application and used it as a scripting language to configure and light off the embedded system.
This embedded system needed to communicate over the network with host systems running Windows, so I needed to hammer out a communications protocol and test the network interface.
Not being a Windows programmer myself, I hacked together a personal Lua dialect that did what I needed. It runs as a console application and, in addition to being able to speak on the network, it can track down the console window in which it's running and scribble lines all over it like a Tek4010 that knows how to draw in color.
Over the years, my Lua dialect has grown to allow me to do interactive thingies; the Tek4010-style vector graphics have gotten faster and more capable (I can now draw red/blue anaglyphs) and I've added the ability to process raw keyboard events, so I can use it to build interactive vector-graphic applications.
For example, I recently found myself in need of a way of pushing a physical state (position, velocity, and acceleration) around in a three-space to debug an extension to my embedded system.
I managed to write the whole thing in my personal Lua Windows dialect, stealing the keystrokes and basic ideas behind KSP while showing me the current physical state in a fighter-jet style HUD and situational awareness display drawn using the vector graphics.
Very useful.
So instead of modding my video games, I tend to drag video game ideas into my work...

re Tomb Raider, you would have thought the devs hated laura the way they
killed her but having said that, I really enjoyed the game, to me it was just one of the most "fun" games I have ever played

I'm looking forward to the 11/15 release of PS4 just because that's the next time I know I'll have a day off. My work schedule has had me working everyday for the last month and a half. The money is nice, but I really need time off. I scheduled a vacation day for the PS4 release. After that I'll be back on until Thanksgiving break.

@28 I got Arkham Origins for free with my new graphics card. From what I've played so far it seems to be really no different than Arkham City. Disappointed Kevin Conroy isn't voicing Batman. The storyline seems like they might have taken a little bit of the elements from Batman Year One.
-------------
I agree that a lot of the gameplay is a bit too similar. I also felt some deja vu whenever I traveled through "Old Gotham" (i.e. the northern half of the map), which is supposed to be the area represented in Arkham City (though it's not exactly the same, and seems a bit smaller). Kevin Conroy isn't voicing Batman in this one, but he's apparently working on a still to be announced Arkham title by the regular Arkham developers, and written by Paul Dinni (who did the writing for Arkham City). No Catwoman this time around, but I also don't think she'd fit. Batman at the start of the game is still dealing with "regular" criminals as opposed to his usual more colorful rogues gallery. I don't think that the Batman in this game would tolerate a cat burgler as a sometime ally.
The story is decent, with a rather big plot twist (which I managed to spot before the reveal; not sure if that makes it too obvious, or if I got lucky figuring it out). A big part of the story focuses on how Batman's relationships with certain characters developed. Those relationships might not have reached their "modern" form by the end of the game, but you can see the seeds in place. I do have a complaint about the story, but talking about it would reveal the spoiler. And it's not a complaint about the story itself.
The big new element, and one that I haven't tested yet, is the on-line mode. The game comes with a three-way on-line mode - gangs affiliated with either Joker or Bane fight each other in a location capture game, while Batman and Robin go after both gangs.
And as usual, stick around for the credits when you finish the game. A certain someone (who shall remain nameless) sings Patsy Cline, and Quincy Sharpe delivers an interview. There's also a very surprising stinger involving one of the characters in the game and another well-known DC character who, to date, hasn't been seen in any of the Arkham games.

FIREPRO!
Still play it almost daily. Why can't they make games like THAT with the WWE/F rosters instead of this eyecandy crap?
The depth of Firepro is what makes it, not the graphics.
*sigh*
