Gang of 8 Rejects Border Fence Amendment

The Senate, by a 54-39 vote, rejected an amendment put forth by John Thune that called for the completion of a border fence between Mexico and the U.S.

Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didnÂ’t want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built.

The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the billÂ’s authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it

[Update] The five Republicans who voted against the Thune Amendment are Flake, McCain, Rubio, Murkowski, and Graham. Two Democrats voted for the Thune Amendment, they are Pryor and Manchin. All I know is that nobody better tell this guy that the fence was voted down. He'll be pissed if he finds out.

1.  The fence is and always has been a red hearing. A fence by itself is worthless.  How many pictures have we seen of Mexicans climbing over the existing fence?

2.  If they had approved it the only reason would be to give them a beard on this BS amnesty bill.  The just like the last time the money would diverted to some socialist program and the fence would never get built.


What they need to do is start fining the sit out of and jailing people who hire illegals

And cut illegals off from all public assistance programs.

Rubio's convinced (or has been convinced by the Republican Establishment) that championing immigration reform will broaden his appeal and shake off the 'Tea Party extremist' associations he used to get elected to the Senate. Rubio sees it as his path to the Presidency.

Everyday they get to go out and repair the fence bottoms from the cartels cutting them to walk through. Some cartels simply fly into the US and land on these ranches.... The ranchers have finally gotten the border patrol to begin working with them since the ranchers know the land they are crediting Giffords replacement Ron Barber(democrat) with actually getting the border patrol to work with them. I read nothing about McCain....
