But here's what I have so far.
Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, August 31, 2013. On this day in 1888 Mary Ann Nicholls, Jack The Ripper's first victim, was found dead in London.

I knew Cameron was doomed when I saw Obama dragging him around to basketball games like a mascot. Those papers hit the British press and I am dead certain a LOT of Brits didn't like it. It showed Cameron to be totally in control of Obama and an unserious person.
Meanwhile, a lot of Tories did NOT like Cameron's position on gay marriage, and a lot of Labor people (who draw voters from traditional African and Muslim immigrants) did not like it either.
A whole bunch of people were waiting to put a knife in Cameron, and Obama gave them the excuse by asking for Britain's help on this foolish Syria mess.
I have no sympathy for Cameron at all.

That's possibly true in AL, where for a long time the sheriffs could keep the difference between what they were allotted per prisoner to feed them and what they actually spent.
But in NYC, it costs $175k per year per prisoner according to a recent article. In that case, EBT is much cheaper.

Your and my upfront understanding are the same.
But as you said with the domino effect....
I am guessing that if starting pay is on par with, or close to minimum wage, it will effect recruiting efforts.
For example, current E-1 starting wages are around 18k a year, or equivalent
to a 40 hour work week rate of $9.00 an hour.
Comparing that to the current $7.25 minimum wage, and setting all other benefits aside for the purpose of discussion, there is a clear monetary difference
Not trying to imply that the military work week is 40 hours long,
But for a young kid, the mental calculations of a $15.00 an hour minimum wage ($30k a year at 40 hr week) vs Military at $18K per year just might cause issues.

At first I thought it was because he was so anti-war that he thought a draft would stop most from happening.
Now I think it isn't that.
They want a draft (including women) so they can decide who gets to go to college and who gets turned into cannon fodder. It will keep a lot of people with children from speaking up, because you wouldn't want your kids put on The List.
It also would allow them to draft doctors. Because emergency shortage.

I had a fantastic English literature teacher when I was in high school. He was an ex-Marine with a crew cut who loved the poetry and prose of England.
Oneof his teaching tricks was to make us argue with him, he taking on the personna of whatever period we were studying (Cavalier poets, Romantic poets, Puritans, medeival, etc.) to make us more fully understand their point of view.
He also got attention by doing a very loud kick to his oak desk. I think he took karate or something. It wasloud and scary and got everyone to shut up real quick! LOL!

Looking back, I see there was a school voucher thread yesterday afternoon while I was away.
Skimming through the comments, I found things like:
"The trouble with poor school districts is that they are.. poor. i.e., they have little money."
This person was obviously speaking at the time about inner-city areas in the context of having rich liberals who oppose vouchers move in.
Because I've always hoped and dreamed about having the republican party someday become the "smart party", comments like this hurt.
Inner city school districts are the richest school districts in the country. Cities like Baltimore, D.C., LA, Detroit and New York spend the equivalent of what it cost to attend Sidwell Friends.
So, when arguing the failing schools with liberals or with fellow conservatives, please, please stop making the mistake of saying that these districts don't have enough money.
Fuck.

"consensual sexual activity between teachers and students should not be criminalized"
We could call it " Droit du seigneur". After all, we know that kids are going to have sex, and we can't stop it. We know that people are going to smoke pot, and we can't stop it. We know drivers are going to violate the highway speed limits and we can't stop it. So we should just make it legal.
In the case of teachers having sex with their students we could just call it 'sex education'. In fact, it should be required, as a final exam, to see to it that the student has learned their lessons. It's only natural, it's common sense, it's fair, and Christians should just grow up and shut up about it and stop trying to force their religion on the rest of us.

To top it all off on Monday, I'll slaughter some more Syrians and then get in a couple more rounds of golf...and then throw a dog on the barbie!!

Vic:
Were they the white faced hornets? They're real bastards -- the pain from their sting seems to last the longest. Last time I got zapped by one it was still burning like hell 20 minutes later.
I can only imagine what getting stung by 40 of them at once would feel like.
And speaking of pain, Dad is awake and still in bad pain so his problem must not be from cramps. I'm terrified he might have cracked a hip from flopping into bed during a transfer. It's on the same side of his body as his arthritic arm, so there's also the possibility his arthritis has attacked a different joint.
I called his home health care provider one of their nurses will eventually pay a visit.
In the meanwhile, can any of you that know medical stuff offer me any advice about what might be his problem? Or what/how I should check him to help determine what might be wrong with him?

There are near daily protests in Tunisia against the islamist state that was established there after their 'Arab Spring'.
Killing murderous tyrants is never a bad thing, in and of itself. I wish our military had the ability to kill ANY shitheel like Assad or Kim il Jung at a push of a button if he dared to stick his head outside. After a few repetitions of that, the world would have more moderate rulers in a hurry.

ChinaÂ’s Tencent is giving away 10TB worth of free cloud storage
After Chinese rivals Baidu and Qihoo 360 served up a terabyte of free cloud storage to punters, rival Tencent this week floated a 10TB giveaway, reports TheNextWeb.
The data bonanza requires users download an iOS or Android App, which gives them access to a terabyte of storage. As they use more data, Tencent will extend the amount of storage given away up to a whopping 10 terabytes.

Since my understanding of slavery is basically Roman and Arabic, I didn't study how it went down in the New World so much. In the classical / Islamic period, generally the promotion of a slave to the management role wasn't attended with the bestowal of a crown.

50k for a masters degree? (including the BA I assume)
Good freaking lord, my PhD only cost me $27k in debt. And since I took 2 years in between to work, I had already paid off some of the original number meaning I owe less than that.
And Frankly, I probably over borrowed for the PhD, but since it was subsidized Stafford's in no interest deferment, I held on to some of the money because it was a crazy time with job switching (and I didn't know how much tuition I'd owe, because I was on employee tuition remission, and if I didn't work enough hours, the tuition would have come due immediately.)
I actually think some of the extra money became a down payment for the house.
And I've been employed as a GA for the last 3 years even after the full time job ended. So I could have paid off a bigger chunk of that debt if I wanted (but we put the money to other uses.)

My graduating class had 284. It was 285 if you included minorities.

That video has been out for at least 5 months BB......I saw it based on someone's link here around that time.
I saw it once and that was enough. I'm not saying I was offended or anything, just that the tune wasn't that catchy and TnA in a music video isn't exactly a novel idea.

My records show that the average daily High Temps for Jun and Jul were 56.5° and 69.6° respectively. That is the coolest I have seen after living here for 30+ years. And it looks like Aug will average out to be just over 88° It is also the only Summer I have seen here in which there were no high temps in excess of 100°.

On the way over, I stopped by Twitter's place. The place was a wreck - empty Valu-Rite bottles and furniture strewn about the place.
The folks will be pissed when they get back.

If Ace would just give up a little control of this place, he could end up with Emily, the 21 year old supermodel brunette in the Thicke video.
Ads for booze, cigarettes and condoms don't mind if people say "fuck" in the comments section. An easy to use Amazon portal would bring in money that Althouse could only dream of. It's easy to imagine merchandise from the AoSHQ store taking off in Duck Dynasty fashion.
The thing is, Emily would even believe, in her own mind, that Ace was attractive and desirable. Of course, this would just be a side effect of the success and money, but for a while, she would actually believe it. So it would be true. Kind of.
So, Ace would have Emily and we, the commenters, would have a functioning website with ampersands, bolding, italics, gifs and other such advanced shit.
The angels would sing and the world would be a happy place.

The ol' trifocals took a huge whack the other day, will need to be replaced, but that'll take some time (week or two)
How about (meantime) some distance-only normal eyeglasses (for driving & such) at a national-chain quickie cheap eyewear joint? (FWIW I'm in western Chicago suburbs.)

Hmm, 5 months eh? I'm trying to conjure up a scenario wherein I can feel something for not having known about it, but so far I got nuthin'.
I just don't identify with about 99.9% of the crap that's put out there by the CultureMeisters. In particular, the degradation of the American Male and the uselessness and wasted activity that's shown in most commercials. The new wave of Apple commercials being the best examples: I have yet to see one that shows anyone doing anything useful.

I live in possibly the absolute least diverse place in America-the upper peninsula of Michigan-and, yes, we have noticed a rise in the Muslim population. 4 years ago we had none, now we have 2 families.

But does it really?
Obama has the IRS, who collects the money, and the Treasury Deptartment, which holds the money. All Congress does is say where it should go then via budgets, continuing resolutions, and legislation.
All Obama has to do is cut out the middle man (Congress) and he can fund pretty much anything he likes.
I think Congress will find it has a lot less power than it thinks if it crosses Obama.

The Algerian oak has failed to yet bombard me with its projectile acorns of doom, and has several brown, withered leaves.
At precisely 9:06 this morning, I was awakened by the sound of a large pine cone hitting the roof of Casa Backwardio and rolling down to the ground. It sounded not unlike a bomb going off.
We can already feel the humidity going down here, but the past few days have still been pretty hot (low 90's). We had a late spring and I predict an early fall. Which means more Bombing of the Pinecones.

Chemical compounds can't evolve into something more complex.

Why not? As long as entropy in the universe as a whole increases, the 2nd Law isn't violated.
Example. I built my own house. Took a random pile of bricks, and created order out of them (a nice house). But entropy in the universe as a whole still increased.
Why?
Because the decreased in entropy in creating the house was offset by a larger increase in entropy due to all the food that was digested in order to power my muscles that moved the bricks.
Hence, entropy as a whole increased.

"Meanwhile, the Pope is reportedly getting ready to shake up bureaucracy by replacing Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the influential secretary of state who has been in office since 2006 and has been criticised for favouritism.
Two possible replacements named by Italian media are Archbishop Pietro Parolin, the current Vatican envoy to Venezuela, and Giuseppe Bertello, the head of the Vatican City governorate."http://tinyurl.com/l9uaqmz
