— Ace Well, let's see. It would be a popular move, it would constitute a constitutional pushback against Obama's Soviet power grab (asserting the power to suspend the law at will), and it could be effective.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said heÂ’s recruited more than a dozen Senate Republicans willing to shut down the government to prevent President ObamaÂ’s healthcare law from going into effect.Lee said the Republicans would block a continuing resolution to fund the government beyond Sept. 30 if it includes funding for ObamaCare.
“This is the last stop before ObamaCare fully kicks in on Jan. 1 of next year for us to refuse to fund it,” Lee said Monday on “Fox and Friends.”
“Congress of course has to pass a law to continue funding government — lately we’ve been doing that through a funding mechanism known as a continuing resolution," he added. "If Republicans in both houses simply refuse to vote for any continuing resolution that contains further funding for further enforcement of ObamaCare, we can stop it. We can stop the individual mandate from going into effect.”
Lee said he has “13 or 14” Senate Republicans on his side, and that the “number is growing.”
There's a parallel movement in the House, which seems more important to me, given that no Republican action in the House automatically equals a defeat of the continuing resolution, unlike the case in the Senate, where the Republicans would have to mount an unlikely filibuster.

Ace,
I don't think you can filibuster a Budget bill.
IIRC, that's somewhere in there.
So it would have to come from the senate.
And as someone whose current income is from the DoD via his wife. I say "Shut the fucker down."
I'll gladly spend down my assets to make ends meet if it means we can finally win one.
*Does math* But you can't shut it down for...*more math* more than 6 months. After that I'd be out of assets. *does more math* maybe 8 if I tweak some money.

This has the look and sound of theatre to me but the fact remains that ObamaCare is a disaster and implementation will be fraught with problems. Getting Zero to sign-off on destroying his signature legislative accomplishment of his first term (auspicious honor that) is wishful thinking at this point methinks. Barry will shut it down and have his water-carrying press do the heavy lifting for him. In a bit, the GOP will cave, ObamaCare will continue to be implemented (albeit in an incomplete state), and more people will see hours/jobs reduced to account for the costs associated with the law.
This whole thing is a mess but I almost want to see Obama enfore the law and make people experience the results of their decisions. The more all this hurts, the more people will wake up to the fact that more government involvement in their lives is not the solution. As medical professionals exit the field, this will become a crisis that will compel Congress to act.
In the end the Blue Model will collapse because there is no money left. The only question in my mind is whether it will be an orderly implosion or a violent explosion. This is going to get ugly as folks realize all their expected "free" benefits disappear into nothingness. Detroit bondholders may get a few cents on the dollar, a lot of citizens will get nothing except a massive bill. Strap in, this is going to become a bumpy ride soon.

2. Sen Mike Lee says we are not willing to shut down the government to stop Obamacare.

I thought budget bills had a set time limit for debate as well?
Maybe I'm wrong.
In any case, Math may win out, but biology has a hand in the short term. I doubt anyone could sustain a talking filibuster to end a budget bill, the dems could just wait it out.

There's a very small handful of really world class scientists, engineers, and mathematicians in government employ.
Some do it because of the relative job security and minimal travel, family reasons, etc. The life of a nomadic consultant isn't conducive to domestic harmony and screws with your health too. BTDT, I know.
You're more apt to find them at DoD, DOE, or one of the intelligence agencies...HHS not so much.

One other thing. There's a few dems in congress that are getting really nervous over Ocare. The repubs would do well to be recruiting them to join in. But I won't believe any of this until McConnell says he's on board.
McCain will find some way to undermine it before it even gets off the ground. McCain has proven himself to be a traitor to America.

With respect, no. The people who we want hurt by this will never blame the Choomster or the Democrats. It will always, somehow, be the fault of obstructionist Rethuglicans or evil corporatist swine like the Koch Brothers. Oh, they'll get dorked up the squeakhole good and hard, but Barry promised only the tip. Any deeper, it's because Boehner or McConnell pushed him in.

The Obama appointee implicated in congressional testimony in the IRS targeting scandal met with President Obama in the White House two days before offering his colleagues a new set of advice on how to scrutinize tea party and conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.
IRS chief counsel William Wilkins, who was named in House Oversight testimony by retiring IRS agent Carter Hull as one of his supervisors in the improper targeting of conservative groups, met with Obama in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on April 23, 2012. WilkinsÂ’ boss, then-IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman, met with Obama on April 24, 2012, according to White House visitor logs.
On April 25, 2012, Wilkins sent Hull and fellow Washington-based IRS official Lois Lerner “additional comments on the draft guidance” for approving or denying tea party tax-exempt applications according to the IRS’ inspector general’s report.

I very much doubt Barack told him or anyone else "hold-up these Tea Party 501(c3) applications. We don't want them to be effective in the 2012 elections." But... he wouldn't need to. He could have just said that "we are not happy with the Citizens United Supreme Court decision and are worried that unscrupulous groups will take advantage of the new election finance rules. Please make sure you're people in the IRS are doing due diligence on these types of groups." Wilkins would get the drift.

In OT news...
Woman killed by minivan; teens take baby to safety
ItemLive (Lynn, MA): http://tiny.cc/1ywm0w
LYNN A teenage couple recalled Sunday how they had asked a woman with a baby for directions. Moments later, they said, they watched in horror as a minivan struck and killed the woman.
“I just kept telling him to get out,” Moises Baez, 18, of Chelsea, said of the driver. “And she was with the baby, who was crying, and we were just like yelling at him to stop.”...
...“He was just burning out on her,” said Baez. He and Arsenault described how the driver of the minivan accelerated the vehicle, trying to get over the body. The driver then tried going forward, and then back again, they said.
They said they rushed to the scene: Arsenault to the baby that was lying on the ground and Baez to get the driver to stop...
Baez said he saw the injuries the woman suffered and saw she wasnÂ’t moving and he immediately suspected she was dead.
Baez said the driver of the vehicle had trouble understanding English and was listening to very loud music. But Baez said he finally got the man to stop the car.
“I still don’t understand how he didn’t feel he hit somebody, because that dent’s pretty huge,” Baez said...
Trouble understanding english in Lynn, MA?
Illegal.

The amount of non-government recoding needed to implement this into existing legacy industry systems is massive and there's not enough warm bodies to do the work and have it tested to any trustable degree.
Its not unlike the Y2K effort. People with foresight started 10 years prior and never panicked, another batch started realizing it was real about 5 years out. By the time it arrived, 99% of critical systems had been fixed/retested to a significant degree -- but that took 5 FREAKING YEARS of fairly intensive work by industry for it to happen.
Y2K was a yawner because Many 10's of thousands of people working for years made it so.
I had 5 solid years of rolling phat doing high priced SCM consulting during that period and the vast majority of those contracts were companies doing Y2K rework who didn't have any SCM or defect tracking process in place.
So far, I'm not seeing that Y2K era Manhattan project level of commitment to implementing this ObamaCare shit so it would slide in as a yawner.
Inertia rules.

“For the first time ever," Donovan added, "HUD will provide data for every neighborhood in the country, detailing the access African American, Latino, Asian, and other communities have to local assets, including schools, jobs, transportation, and other important neighborhood resources that can play a role in helping people move into the middle class."
................
According to HUD, long-term solutions include "helping people gain access to different neighborhoods and channeling investments into under-served areas." The mapping tool may guide development and zoning decisions, for example.

Eh...wasn't Section 8 housing supposed to remedy this? I though leftist were against suburban sprawl? Are they gonna force more municipalities to build more Section 8 housing? I guess my property values haven't plummeted enough in the last 6 years for the c-suckers.

305 till 11pm, that later then he stayed up when Benghazi was burning!!!
Doesn't mean he wasn't sleeping. Perhaps they used the conference room with the comfy chairs.

There is strong evidence the Executive Branch of the US federal government has been deliberately, maliciously targeting and harassing (to the point of outright persecution) prominent Republican donors such as Frank Vandersloot, Republican activists such as True The Vote's Catherine Engelbrecht, and Republican political hopefuls such as Christine O'Donnell (whatever you might think of Christine O'Donnell). Why, exactly, should Republican elected officials at any local, state, and national level cooperate with the Obama Administration in any way, on any issue? In case the GOP Establishment isn't catching on, the boys from Chicago are not traditional Democrats. We're not talking about Hubert Humphrey or Ed Muskie here.
Shut it down. Refuse to cooperate. No more go along, get along anywhere.

LOL, I just had to go get a new pair this morning because I ran over mine with the lawn mower. I'll bet that yours would not take that. And yes, there was alcohol involved,
And before insurance kicked in the lenses alone were $400. (I had an old pair of frames.)

The titanium metal is quite thin. Even if they do get warmish out in the sun, they cool right off in a few seconds when you put them back on because there's just not that much mass available to hold the heat.

It truly is going to be a trainwreck of epic proportions, and as long as there is a Democrat Senate and Democrat President, the only thing Republicans can do at this point is delay ObamaCare, which would probably be a life preserver for Obama and Democrats.

Those frames remind me of ones a lady friend wears. She gets them from an online store that sells 'em for $20/pair with a large variety of styles.
Something to consider - at that price point you can have more than one pair and match it to your mood/attire.

213 I need some quick fashion advice from the 'ettes.
I've on my way to get my first pair of prescription glasses (sigh). Should I go with a black frame? I'm going to select something cute, want color advice. (I have blonde, high-lighted hair).
Help!
I have worn glasses since I was 12yrs old. I hate them. Can't do the laser due to "thin corneas". Great the only thin thing about me makes it impossible to NOT get rid of the ugly glasses. I can wear contacts but they are miserably uncomfortable since I have extreme astigmatism. Honey, if you can wear contacts do it! If not then find something that flatters the shape of your face and eyes. I would suggest not going with black frames, they can be heavy looking. Brown or tortoise shell can be flattering for almost anyone.

Vichy Republicans don't comprise an opposition. They are made up of people who only live to further their own governmental positions.
The people of this country have to fend for themselves against this monstrous, unconstitutional power grab.
Any Boehner, please STFU about how you voted for repeal 35 times. That's not courage or an action that will actually stop implementation. It's apolitical fig leaf. Crybaby.

It's always confused, panicked, or crazy drivers jamming down the accelerator thinking it's the brakes.
Sometimes it's an accidental floor mat wedged weirdly but usually it's just the driver jamming the gas pedal to the floor.
And these incidents always increase after one is in the news -- which means some people are doing it on purpose to excuse crazy speeding or for a lawsuit.
It's mostly confused elderly people though who shouldn't be allowed to drive anymore.

Here's something to keep in mind: The computers that control cars today have no effective security on them whatsoever. To make it easier for their techs, they have been going to Bluetooth instead of plug-in interface for the last few model years.
Is it really that outlandish to suspect that some technically proficient sociopath would put together an overpowered Bluetooth interface, possibly with a cantenna type set up and then use it to set somebody's accelerator all the way on? As long as we are being paranoid, wouldn't that be a handy way to be rid of some troublesome journalist?

Not sure, but a quick search for online glasses shows one store Zenni Optical that offers glasses for something like $30~
That price may also be ignoring options and shipping, but it's still a lot cheaper than having a vision plan and paying several hundred dollars per pair. (Apparently, glasses are dirt cheap to make - optometrists charge a huge markup for their services)
