Governor Scott Walker Continues Reign of Terror
— CAC

Pondering menacingly while relaxing upon his throne of skulls (thank you Ben Domenech for that mental image), it seems the Governor has decided to maliciously target state workers yet again. By giving them a raise:

The general wage increase would be the first in four years for most rank-and-file employees and the first in five years for most managers, according to the administration.

The pay raise would cost more than $140 million over two years and apply to most state workers, including employees at University of Wisconsin System campuses. Employees making less than $15 an hour would see an additional increase of up to 25 cents an hour...
The first set of raises would take effect on Sunday and show up on employees' paychecks at the end of July.

Elected officials would get the same pay bumps as typical state employees, but not until after the November 2014 elections.

Act 10 freed up so much cash than in addition to tax cuts/freezes and expanding the voucher program, the Governor has decided to toss a few bucks towards his loudest enemies.

My suspicion is that the Governor is playing for the long game, trying to expand his possible 2016 coalition to include a sizable portion of unionized workers who would otherwise vote Democratic. He snagged 38% of their vote in the heat of the recall battle last June. I suspect more actions like this will make that number grow, much to the frustration of his enemies. Or perhaps he doesn't hold a grudge and felt they were due for a raise, but that seems too turn-the-other-cheek, even for a radiant man like Walker.

While it may seem daft, think about it from the perspective of a state worker who has seen their check "inflate" with their dues no longer automatically deducted. Now they're seeing a raise they have been waiting on for several years, thanks in no small part to a man their union boss insisted was trying to destroy them. It's extremely tempting to dip your toe in the waters on the other side of the partisan divide. Now multiply that one worker scratching their head by a few thousand, and you begin to see the picture.

As for the words of the union activists who predicted the death of the middle class, massive cuts and layoffs, and hinted at red asphalt and sidewalks, looks like we may need to rename the "Dick Morris Rule" of predictions.

40 So, a guy named Dyson said on MSNBC that the Court ruling on the VRA means "[W]e're supposed to trust the Paula Deens of the world" to make sure voting laws are enforced. Yeah, that's bad. Not quite as bad as relying on the IRS employees/Lois Lerners of the world to make sure laws are fairly applied, or the Al Sharptons of the world to make sure false accusations aren't made, but it's got its problems, no doubt.

41 I had a hilarious conversation with my sister in law who is a newly retired union teacher. She said the teachers' unions are already getting their butts kicked in Michigan, and now there is a new union president who can't manage to proofread. She still gets mailings and has been tempted to mark up his writings with a red pen and mail them back to him.

42 Employees making less than $15 an hour would see an additional increase of up to 25 cents an hour... Since the price of gasohol has double since Barry has stolen office, I'm hoping (not really, to be honest) these state workers, dressed in plaid, commute less then 500 feet to their jobs.

I listen to WRKO every day, and anytime he's on, Gomez just speaks in safe platitudes, even to the extent of flat out ignoring questions. Apparently he did that in the debates, too.

Unlike Brown, who organized around Obamacare, rallied his base by sounding pretty conservative, and gave the voters a clear choice, Gomez is just out there sounding like Ed Markey's slightly more rational brother. He's unabashedly pro-amnesty, as well.

Why vote Dem Light when you can get all the fullbodied moonbattery you love by just voting Dem?

105 Walker 2016? It could work

Posted by: AuthorLMendez at June 25, 2013 03:06 PM (Pne1H)

106 5 Senators Who Support Immigration Bill Don't Know Answer to Key Question About It Obamacare poses a tricky problem for supporters of the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill. It would be too politically toxic to give illegal immigrants amnesty and taxpayer subsidies under Obamacare, so the Senate bill prohibits "registered provisional immigrants" (individuals who are now residing illegally in the United States granted legal status under the bill) from receiving Obamacare subsidies. But in so doing the Senate's immigration bill would create a big financial incentive for some employers to hire non-citizens granted legal status over American citizens. As the Washington Examiner's Philip Klein recently reported: "Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead." On Tuesday afternoon, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked five different U.S. Senators about this problem. These five senators, all Democrats, voted to cut off debate Monday night on the revised immigration bill, but none of them knew if the bill would create a financial incentive for some employers to hire amnestied immigrants instead of American citizens lying idiot assholes

Walker could be building a coalition by trying to bring in minority voters with his expansion of vouchers, and targeting black and white voters in the low-to-middle class with the raises in state worker pay and tax rebates, and getting the miner vote up north to get about 54-55% of the white vote and 10-11% of the AA vote, a large enough margin for about a 2-3% win statewide in a 2016 run. I think he's being very diplomatic...he's not lording his victory over the public unions by intentionally withholding raises, or playing the "I Won", game....like Obama does. Good for him, as it will only increase the number of supporters he has.

He's also got to know that he's Target #1 for the large national public unions, and the state will be flooded with outside money, (and voters), in an attempt to finish him off the next time around. Not just public unions either...any union that either enjoys the 'right' to coerce dues from it's members....even non union employees, and those that want the same, will be going after him.

Posted by: Sticky Wicket at June 25, 2013 07:32 PM (qoQi/) Except he's even more popular with non-public worker union voters, and has worked with several to get mining expanded in northern Wisconsin. Several unions refused to endorse Barrett in the recall or fund drives against him, so that's actually tougher to predict. The PEUs LOATHE him, the private sector unions are more divided.

196 Not quite out of nowhere-- So, I'm sorry the Martin Luther Memorial Foundation in D.C. refused Stone Mountain granite for the King statue, and went with stone from freedom-loving China, birthplace of all thought on natural law rights. Perfectly understandable. I think "Locke" is a traditional name in some province or the other. Be that as it may, perhaps King's image should be carved on the mountain. In general I don't recommend doing such things--the Crazy Horse effort comes to mind-- but I think with the Voting Rights Act being restored to the realm of rational thought, perhaps the effort should be made. Or at least raise the idea. The Civil Rights movement is going to continue to be ghettoized, as far as being on par with Bunker Hill, etc., as long as it gets used as a billy club for partisans to get elected, when it has no relation to actual current policy. I passed a Hosea Williams bin the other day. Great man, no longer with us, I have fond memories of him and his eccentricities. On the other hand, I'd run over John Lewis like Bruce Willis did with Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction. Why? Politics. Lewis is trying to use his past to win non-related things in the present (he'll say it is all related). Hosea concentrated on feeding the hungry (and got DUI's, but hey...). I like Hosea, because Hosea did not lie and cold-heartedly stab good people in the back, because he had the media permission to do so. The Civil Rights movement is not going to be an *American* story, the common heritage of all Anericans, until those in posession of it stop beating others over the head with it. Period.

198 Sitting at home eating antibiotics like candy because my diverticulitis is slowly killing me. Watched the Zimmerman trial. One of prosecution's first eye witnesses, a young kid who has given 2 or 3 transcribed statements and a deposition, embellishes her previous statements in a manner that makes Zimmerman's account of the event look like a lie. And oh, by the way, she also "Friended" the Justice for Trayvon Martin Facebook page. On direct examination, when her story calls into question Zimmerman's account, HLN runs a banner asking something like "Is Zimmerman Shown to be a Liar?" - or some other even handed editorial comment or question. When the witness is shown to be embellishing her testimony and adding information that she had never previously given, HLN does not see fit to run a banner to the effect of "Is Prosecution's First Substantive Witness a Lying, Two-bit Biased Whore?"...... What a great country. What great practitioners of the First Amendment! What a bunch of ass hat fucks.

Because, what with conservatives being the responsible ones what hold jobs and raise families and such, we've got time and resources to make the sort of commitment required in order to crawl inside the leftist underground.  Yeah, that's the plan.

Well, he sure is, but so is Miss Lindsay, and so is McQueeg, and so are frankly half of the GOP Senate contingent.

When the math gets done after the 2014 elections, whether or not Dingy Harry is still the Senate Majority Leader is determined by one simple thing: how many names there are with an (R) after them.

If there are enough (R) suffixes, even if the people with those are RINO squishes, then Reid is out of that chair. Would that not be worth holding one's nose long enough to vote for a squish?

233 Very smart move for Walker. As a former state employee, I can tell you honestly that 75% of the workers hate the union and their mandatory dues and their destructive strikes. The "activists" are usually the kind of people who would get fired otherwise, so they cast their lot with the union.

So now Walker can build on that. Sure hope a lot of GOPers take a lesson.

And he's doing the exact right thing by not 'punishing' his enemies like Obama is. He's clearly got his ducks in a row...but unions do not accept failure, especially against someone that so easily exposes their many lies. The unions are not all that smart....if they have to, they'll bankrupt themselves fighting Walker....which I'm totally cool with.

I've heard him talk dozens of times now, and I can't think of one policy that he's endorsed or supported that I agree with. He's anti-gun, pro-illegal, and pro-abortion. He talks about "making sure we don't go bankrupt" but we all know he'll vote for pork when the trough comes around.

The guy wrote a letter to Deval "Mini-me" Patrick saying almost literally "I love Obama (he donated to his '08 campaign) and I will work with you to move through his vision if you appoint me to the open seat".

You need a plan that starts with "because people do." The amended corollary to that is that little changes are better than big changes. I'm asking people to make a little change. Not a big change. But a little change with a lot of leverage - increase awareness, hurt credibility, Take a little "cool" away from the left (it's "cool" to be a rebel, it's not cool to be a liar). Unfortunately, what I say doesn't matter because a bigger core observation of reality is the organized always beats the disorganized, and individualists are always more disorganized than collectivists. It's only in the window between the collapses of collectivism (because it can't work) that individualists can prosper.

258 Wisconsin state employees are represented by AFSCME Council 24.  Membership dropped from 22,300 last year to just 7,100 this year.  While the union wants people to believe that its membership is monolithic, the truth is quite the opposite.  Like the state teachers union, the state employee union has far more in-the-closet Walker supporters than the left imagines.  Providing a raise for state employees was a smart move on Walker's part.
